Debenham’s on Henry, Street, Dublin
This afternoon.
Further to Debenhams saying its Irish outlets that it would not be affected by the company’s decision to place its UK outlets into administration and that it planned to reopen its Irish stores after the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted…
Barry Whyte, in the Business Post, reports:
Debenhams has told its staff it is pulling out of Ireland and will not reopen its 11 shops around the country.
In a letter to staff this morning, the troubled department store chain said it would be appointing a liquidator to the Irish arm of the company next week.
It closed its British and Irish stores at the end of last month because of Covid-19 restrictions, and the company is appointing an administrator.

Another 1000 jobs gone.
Poor feckers.
It’s disappointing that so many people are losing their jobs, but Debenhams couldn’t continue charging the ridiculous euro prices compared to sterling. There isn’t a 30% difference between the currencies but that’s what they’re still charging Irish customers.
