WHO & #China have enjoyed a long & productive partnership. WHO is proud to have supported the overseas training of more than 2000 Chinese #HealthWorkers. Grateful for China’s commitment to strengthening health systems in other countries through its Belt and Road Initiative. pic.twitter.com/IigqsDsEOI

US President Donald Trump at yesterday’s White House Covid-19 press briefing
Last night.
According to Mr Trump, WHO prevented transparency over the outbreak and the United States – the UN body’s biggest funder which provided $400 million last year – will now “discuss what to do with all that money that goes to the WHO.”
He said that the WHO had not sent experts into China quickly enough when the outbreak first emerged and took the assurances from that country’s leaders “at face value”.
Mr Trump said had the WHO “done its job” by getting experts into China swiftly then “the outbreak could have been contained at its sources with very little death”. The US president suggested thousands of lives could have been saved by such action.

Bill Gates says Donald Trump’s decision to stop US funding of the World Health Organisation during the #COVID19 pandemic is as “dangerous as it sounds” https://t.co/eQESk5dUQe

Bill Gates’ Instagram.
Come for the cuddly sweater, stay for the blistering comments.
And every time you think he can’t get any more scummy, he somehow does.
I hear he personally phoned Roger Daltrey
haha
Won’t get fooled again, though.
Didn’t Lady GaGA phone Tedros Adhanom?- they are friends apparently.

Sorry to interrupt your call Mr Adhanom but I have Cher on line two and Kylie is still waiting on line four.
Lady GaaGaa?

That statue on the WHO desk is Shiva ‘god/goddess of death’. Lovely craftsmanship.
…err…Shiva is a he/his…
Sorry, bisted, fixed now.
bodger was drunk at the time
…Bodger seems to be confused on gender issues…still…Shiva is on the WHO desk because HE is the symbol of removal of all ills from the earth…
who among us hasn’t fallen for it on occasion, bisted ?
Shiva is half-female half male. Stop promoting her male side.
+1
…as a good atheist I’m only aware of Shiva as a hindu deity…wasn’t aware he’d been appropriated as a gay Icon…
the gays get their hands on everything eventually
Shiva’s a bloke Bodger and he’s the god of destruction, not death. Yama is the Hindu god of death. Shiva is also the Supreme Destroyer of Evil and the god of Yoga.
In that pose Shiva is depicted as Nataraja, the Lord of the Dance, dancing the eternal dance of creation and destruction.
When depicted as Kalantaka, Shiva is the destroyer of death, which makes him a bit more fitting for the WHO.
Shiva is a composite male-female. Terf!
it’s a spectrum
Ah no, more of a Fifty-Fifty bar than a Wibbly Wobbly Wonder :)
So why did you refer to him in the female? Terf!
Let’s quickly put this to ‘bed’
Shiva is male. But there’s context. Met met a lady god Parvati who became his consort. They got it on and from then on, the manifestation of his consort (known as Shivaa in female form) is allegorical in nature mostly due to his “yogic sex“ related concepts. As in the unification of minds through sex. Since they are gods, their physical forms are not fixed as we humans see it. They are spirits and in that, they are two distinct and discrete entities unified. To claim Shiva to me both male and female is flawed. Context.
If you believe that sort of thing…
Pompous buffoon. Always somebody elses fault
Good man Trump. Stick to your guns, mate. You’re winning.
Winning what?
Bodger now re-posting Q (without acknowledgement).
Worst pandemic ever!
Huh. You’re right. Q literally posted that picture. Someone’s still Trusting The Plan But Not Enough To Be Open About It.
WWG1WGA.
Will no-one thnk of the tunnel tots?
They’re hiding from Biden.
It’s okay. Trump is rescuing them as we speak.
Surely Bill Gates could throw a few bob in the direction of the WHO?
He has given them $1.5 billion already.
Am I right in saying he’s their second largest donor?
Not sure, ReproBertie. Sorry.
bill and melinda are by far the biggest non-state donors (excluding UN and EU) but also in the top 10 is GAVI (formerly the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), which was founded by Bill and Melinda. another in the top 10 is bloomberg.
No worries Bodger. I had heard it but couldn’t find it anywhere so thought someone else could point me in the right direction.
Trump is correct, WHO have blood on their hands.
China block Taiwan from WHO membership – political pressure from China – Tedros is a Maoist politician not a Doctor or scientist, prior to Tedros WHO was headed by China via Hong Kong proxy.
China have effectively run WHO since 2007
Taiwan notified the WHO of human to human transmission December 31st 2019 however, the WHO did not communicate the information with other nations.
Chinese health authorities confirmed human to human transmission of the coronavirus on January 20
3 weeks were lost.
WHO unfit for purpose, merely a political organisation masquerading as a global public health body.
None of which excuses or explains DT’s inaction.
Trump inaction?
Jan 31 China travel ban
March 11 Europe travel ban
3.1 million people tested
Ireland
Airports still open
42,000 tests (not people, tests)
Remind me how Ireland has been so much better?
Rather we have benefitted from other factors
Much of your poor cheery picking is incorrect.
Your hero’s ban on European flights was only applied to travellers from countries which were members of the Schengen border-free travel area. The UK, Ireland and other non-Schengen countries were unaffected.
US citizens are also exempt. mongst industrialized countries, the United States has had the worst overall response. They were late in taking the threat seriously, their testing capacity is chaotic, hospitals are undersupplied, health care across the board is overwhelmed and behavioral efforts to “flatten the curve” have been piecemeal.
Trump’s only aggressive actions to date have been downplaying the risk, peddling unproven cures, blaming the Chinese, spreading false hope of quickly reopening the economy and giving himself a pat on the back.
14 March, Trump extended his flight ban to include the UK and Ireland.
and the 14th of April he put a hold on all the relief cheques to millions of Americans because he insisted on having his signature being put on them. This delayed vital money to people struggling to put food on the table and pay their rent by three days. Ineptitude is just one word to describe this guys actions. Crazy, incoherent, cruel, conceited or a rancid paella of all four might be more accurate.
The haphazardness of the travel bans was bizarre at best.
Wasn’t Mugabe appointed as Goodwill Ambassador to the WHO at one stage. That says oodles.
If there was no WHO you would have had to take the word of the Chinese Government instead…
Perhaps instead of defunding the WHO he should put pressure on UN member nations to give the WHO actual powers
Utterly shambolic and nasty. Of course this is tax filing day deadline in the USA (15 April). A cynical bit of contempt for everyone else to appeal to the rich numpty newcons and redreck states who vote vote for him.
But 400m is frankly SFA to the USA.
IRL 444 deaths population 4.9m
USA 26211 deaths population 328m
Ireland deaths from COVID-19 EXCEEDS USA deaths per capita
IRL 1 dead per 11036
USA 1 dead per 12514
But keep up the back slapping, helps keep your eyes off the ball
I look forward to seeing you update those stats 6 months from now.
+1 Many nursing homes in the US are not counted NBC News tallied 2,246 deaths associated with long-term care facilities, based on responses from 24 states. This, too, is an undercount; about half of all states said they could not provide data on nursing home deaths, or declined to do so. Some states said they do not track these deaths at all.
I see Simon Coveney has eventually emerged from his cocoon. To tweet about Donald Trump and the WHO. https://mobile.twitter.com/simoncoveney/status/1250348979595792392
Some cutting replies to his tweet.
