Have they any Irish stories in The Sunday Times (Irish Edition)? Anyone here doing any investigative journalism or any scoops in Ireland? fair play to the Sunday Daily Mail (this week)

Are you serious about the English, I mean Irish Mail on Sunday. Look at their front page. I just Googled the UK newspaper front pages and lo and behold they have the Michael Mosley and Victoria Beckham articles there as well. So this is where the Irish newspaper industry is at, just 80% copies of their British sister paper. Look back this week at the pictures on the front pages of the Irish/English Daily Mail, all you’ll find are pictures of Megan Markle, Prince Harry and other English celebrities. Calling itself an Irish paper is gone past a joke at this stage.

Sunday Times is the best newspaper in Ireland at the moment, some great writers in there and one of the only ones that bother to do any investigative journalism anymore.

@andrew You are joking? They’re Irish employees Boasting on social media about their story on Boris Johnson! Surely they should be boasting about their Irish Scoops. But there doesn’t appear to be any. That is why I said fair play to The Sunday Mail this week. It’s a scoop. Most journalists in all papers are guilty of taking government/HSE press releases and just printing them.

        1. Andrew

@Politico well yes, I completely agree with you on that. The Irish media have very poor at holding the govt. to account. Have they ever been any different?
Just in general I think the ST is a good paper, culture section is excellent. Mark Tighe has been very good with his investigative work.
Fair play to the Mail, they’re not buying in to the green jersey stuff either.
I do take your point though, most Irish journalists are happier to write and comment about Boris or Trump rather that shining a light back home. It’s bizarre.

…it was ever thus that lazy journos would just copy and paste press releases…it’s when they started believing the press releases that marked the end…

Too early for A Fellow, MaryLou Fellow to grace the stage. No doubt they’ll be along around 10 or 11 to tell us how to vote. ROFL.

        1. Clampers Outside

That’d be the flip side of the coin, the other side having SF voters who continually tell everyone else how to vote, yeah?

          Pot kettle, etc.

          1. scottser

Now now clamps, there is no such thing as a political party that is free from hypocrisy. Politics is largely a game of which set of lies you prefer to believe.

          2. GiggidyGoo

Sure, Clampers. And ending almost all of their posts with ‘Remember, a vote for FG/DUP is a vote for UVF’

Indeed, the embodiment of objectivity, sure he routinely calls out the civil war parties for Mary Boyle and Grace.

Heath industry has to protect the millions of private health insurance premiums. Unless we have a coup the legal, insurance and health professionals will continue to to pillage.

I work in the media, circulation figures for all papers re falling – both daily and Sunday titles. The Irish Mail on Sunday do seem to be falling faster than others. They used to sell considerably more than the Sunday Times but the ST now sell about 10k more than them. They were selling 100k plus up until about 2 years ago so I don’t know what the reason is for their particularly large fall. Below are the March 2020 figures for Republic of Ireland –

Sunday Independent 150,000 + (they no longer submit audit figures)
    Sunday Times 66,857
    Irish Mail on Sunday 50,843

My future husband Cameron Kyle-Sidell MD is on YouTube again- looking a bit rough but I’d guess he’s not the only one like that in NYC right now. No idea what he is talking about but I find it fascinating that he is instigating this direct dialogue among medics because time is of the essence. Its nearly like open source medicine- if there ever could be such a thing.

The answer to saving people’s lives might actually lie with the Spainish flu- they used pressurised oxygen tanks to keep people alive. There is already one study in the US underway and it has been successfully used in China to.

      1. Cathal

Rte haven’t mentioned it and none of the headlines in the papers, guessing pressure from someone in government, the cliff divers son?

        1. Rob_G

That’s a horrible thing to say Cathal – see, I just called you ‘Cathal’, instead of “the son of that guy who dropped his baby on his head”

It was on RTE Radio, early this morning.

They work in the food supply chain and would be classed as “essential” workers.
Gasp at that if you will but ask yourself… How many Irish do, or want to do, that kind of work, even before the virus? SFA. Keelings have been bringing in pickers for years. Should now be any different if they are considered for all intents and purposes to be “essential” workers.

They are now in a limbo… Missed the end of the piece.

I spent six of twelve month of last year in the agri industry Clamps- the conditions those people were expected to live in were appalling and their paper pay was nowhere near what they received.

        Irish not welcome- absolute fact.

If any of these employers are going to fly in cheap labour then let An Garda Síochána escort the full WRC audit workforce into those farm sites paying particular attention to those from Ukraine.

All white before the usual Green Party clowns get their hands on the hips.

      2. realPolithicks

Perhaps if they paid people a living wage then it would be easier to attract workers to this kind of Job.

      3. Clampers Outside

        I hear you both.
        I’m not defending Keelings, btw.

Better definition and/or enforrcement of “essential” is clearly needed.

Stefan Molyneux is labelled as a far-right, white nationalist Canadian podcaster by Wikipedia – the source of all manipulated truth. His father whom stepped out of his life as a child, died two days ago.

Here he speaks of what it means to him- a warning to all men who discard their children, particularly about the power those children will have over them in their later life.
