Just look at the so called “Irish” Daily Mail Andrew. They have a picture of Elton John, I don’t remember the last time they had an Irish picture on its front page. They also have a special with Hugh Fearley-Whittingstall (obviously he’s English I presume, never heard of him) Why can’t they support our own Irish instead of just copying the English version?

I think you miss my point! I have nothing whatsoever against the English. I just think we should have Irish papers that predominately have Irish content. All the regular UK papers are on sale here anyway e.g. Express, Guardian, etc But surely when you buy an Irish paper you expect most of it (not all of course) to be Irish, otherwise we have practically no Irish journalists!
And just one other point, the Mail sales figures in Ireland have collapsed in the last 2/3 years. Someone put some figures on broadsheet.ie yesterday showing sales of different papers. I couldn’t find them there now but I presume you can still find them. The Mail have slashed their employee levels in Ireland and sales have fallen big time as a result. That’s how I can’t fathom this tactics of putting so much English material on their front pages.

If you look at that article there are 2300 beds in the 18 hospitals with a combined turnover of about €1.2bn (a lot of the figures were 2018 and some were missing, but if we assume an average of €550,000 per bed) .
This would suggest a monthly turnover of €103m – so the State is paying over the odd if the €115m is correct.

Suddenly!.. After oh-so many weeks, now the government has decided to prioritise a key demogrophic of the most vunerable whose mortality has been made even more precarious by just being in a nursing home. without basic proper safety procedures in place to protect them.
The F-f/g undemocratically elected duopoly for the neo-liberal economic elite… is now implementing various measures, way after the fact that it was a priority as one of the first areas that required targeting from the start. It is more proof it does not even care about it’s own core voter base. The elderly and previously mentally confused, coerced and conditioned by propaganda into supprting them for the last century.
It’s a shameful disgrace or the highest order and worse still, at least 50% of the voters and a significant amount who are these victims or related, will continue the self-sabotage against their and our own best interest as any kind of attempt at a functioning democratic republic….
You can dismiss this as more of the same anti F-f/g – rhetoric but just look at the facts.

Advising that those homes to reopen was criminal negligence. Not providing PPE to those working with the most vulnerable in our society was reckless endangerment- I cannot see how any sane person could view it as anything else.
The 60 bed nursing home near to me is virus free. The owner visited every patient with either a bouquet of flowers or chocolates over Easter. She nightly calls to every patient and drowns them in holy water…..Bless her cotton socks, a kind lady.
