The EU is at the heart of coronavirus global response. In 10 days, on 4 May, we will launch a global pledging effort. On that day we will also announce next milestones of a global campaign to kick off an ongoing rolling replenishment. → https://t.co/ADsLS09W08 pic.twitter.com/kXUUMzVrOu

When I see the word ‘Pledge’, all I see is Enda Kenny.

Just two examples:
“On 31 March the European Commission approved a €200 million Irish scheme to support companies affected by the coronavirus outbreak and found it to be in line with EU State aid rules. The scheme was further updated and again approved on 21 April in line with Commission amendments to the Temporary Framework of 3 Arpil. The support, which will take the form of direct grants, repayable advances, equity injections, and subsidised loans, aims at ensuring that companies have sufficient liquidity to maintain their activities during and after the outbreak. The scheme, known as “Sustaining Enterprise Scheme” applies to the whole territory of Ireland and will be open to companies of all sizes.”
“The European Commission selected for support 18 new projects focused on urgently needed research and innovation into the coronavirus. On 31 March the Commission added an Irish project called HG nCoV19 test coordinated by the Irish company Hibergene Diagnostics to the list of supported projects. It will develop and validate a rapid molecular diagnostic test for the coronavirus in cooperation with partners in China, Italy and the UK. The total budget for all 18 supported projects is €48,5 million from Horizon 2020, the EU research and innovation programme.”
Criticism where it is due, but “we have done nothing” is wide of the mark.

If she’s Leyen we’re dyein’
after our bill we got from the last recession, it’s hard to react positively to a request for a dig out from the same crowd who screwed us over so terribly hard.
