This morning.
The Four Courts, Dublin 1.
Dimitri O’Donnell tweetz:
Major Garda presence outside court 25 at the high court ahead of a hearing by Gemma O’Doherty and John Waters challenging the state’s #COVID19 laws.
More as we get it.
Previously: Co-Mingle
A bunch of elderly people trying desperately to catch Covid 19. This is a justified response.
That’s enough about the judiciary.
Elderly folk being protected from themselves. Sure its all a conspiracy.
‘being protected from themselves’ is how it all starts, buddy.
I’m not your buddy, guy
i-i-i-i-i’m not your stepping stone
After last week’s display she called for double the numbers and double the flags. Hopefully the Gardaí treat them the way they treated the much more socially responsible Debenhams protestors and send them on their way.
Funny you should say that. Have the Gardai treated Varadkar and his photo shoot entourages of 15+ the same as the Debenhams people?
You should contact the garda press office and ask them.
Don’t have to. They haven’t. But I don’t see you complaining about that.
I mentioned the Debenhams protests because they took place the same day as the last court hearing, were socially distanced and yet were told to go home so there’s a direct comparison between the two.
I haven’t seen a photo shoot with an Taoiseach and 15+ people not socially distancing in the last week (perhaps I’m not as obsessed with him as you are). Was there one or was it nothing more than whataboutery on your part?
So what you’re basically saying then is that the Gardai were correct in the handling of the Debenhams protestors, even though they were adhering to the social distancing ‘rule’ …’hopefully the Gardai treat them…..’
You mightn’t have seen the taoiseach and 15 not socially distancing, but there are photos of him not socially distancing from 1,2 or 3. But the point I was making was that (for instance) they want no more than 10 at funerals, but can have any amount for their own photo shoots – and there were 15+ at one in Citywest.
These two have the right to question the law. There is also a right for the public to enter a court.
No, what I’m saying is the gardaí should show consistency and treat us all the same way and, yes, that includes people gathering for photo ops.
Maybe – just maybe – the work of an Taoiseach is essential work, which requires him being in close proximity of others sometimes…
Rob_G. So if the Taoiseach’s work is so essential, wouldn’t he be better to apply himself to the job in hand and not be organizing photo-shoots and ding the actual essential work.
Having said that, Holohan seems to be making decisions for the country at the moment, not Varadkar.
If there were no photos of him, contrarians (e.g. people like you) would be complaining about his inaction. Even when he was giving medical consultations by phone in his free time, you were complaining about it, so he needs to produce a few photos for the benefit of the journal-commenter-types.
Jesus Rob_G. You don’t need photo shoots to inform of what you’re doing. e.g. Radio news doesn’t use photo shoots, yet can report on his movements.
I didn’t complain about him doing medical consultations. might have complained about him publicizing it though. There’s a difference.
Whatever – every politician in the world holds press conferences and poses for photo ops. It’s considered part of their job.
Rob: patiently teaching Giggidy about the world since 2015-ish
Is Leo out doing physical CoVid-19 tests himself today essential work Rob?
Pretty sure testing for Covid-19 counts as essential work, yes.
Yes, Leo was out today doing his Photo Shoot. (He still hasn’t much of an idea what 2M is mind you). https://www.independent.ie/world-news/coronavirus/leo-varadkar-helps-with-coronavirus-testing-on-traveller-accommodation-site-39164399.html
Notice the headline? ‘Leo Varadkar helps with coronavirus testing on traveler accommodation site’. And there he is in scrubs and a mask.
Read the article, and we are informed “It is unclear if Mr Varadkar himself was carrying out the swab tests of residents.”
Photo-shoot merchant does photo-shoot thingies.
Unclear means unclear.
Did you see the press notice he sent out to bring the photogs to the site?
Also he seems to be about 6 feet away in the photo given the angle it’s taken at but no doubt you went along and measured it so you could be so definite that it wasn’t the full 2m.
Either way 5GrannyBertie- great to see he has time to do the old ‘tit ‘n tits’ eh?
Nothing important going on- like old people dying or such.
5GrannyBertie? Are you feeling OK?
He’s doing an hour with the health service. Some people took photos and posted them on the internet. What would you have him doing for that hour that would stop old people dying?
Damned if he does. Damned if he doesn’t. You may want to find a way to cope with your irrational hatred of him because he’ll be sharing the office of Taoiseach with Mícheál Martin for the next five years.
Looks like i have better spatial awareness than you Repro.
Goo get back into your basement, and switch the wee fee off. You equate these loons to people trying to the protect population for silly political reasons. Have you been tested yet?
The A-Thingy arrives to comment on anything but the subject. Toddle along lad
I will address the subject. Silly right wing protesters against medical advise are breaking the law and should be dealt with accordingly. You obviously have an aversion to the Guards, and the law. So suggest an alternative solution? Go on, answer a question. Instead of constant moaning, provide a solution. And btw was Man on Fire fired (or worse)?
A-Thing
Where in the above have I said they shouldn’t be dealt with by the law?
What’s your hang-up about someone that hasn’t posted for a while? Are you missing him?
No, I reckon he was you with another name – you even know who I was talking about. Are you Mustard and Fart as well. Not one criticism of you about Gemma (sorry can I mention her name on here without being edited). Yet Leo this and Leo that. Hence one can only assume your support for Gamma (again sorry, please don’t edit).
Sooooooo – I didn’t say anything about them being not dealt with by the law. Riiiiggggh.
So you’re in assumption mode.
Actually, I’m every other poster here except you.Even the ones that agree with you (though I don’t see many of them).
She also called for Gardai and the judge to be hanged. People who share her views have firebombed hotels earmarked for DP centres and are currently burning down all sorts of masts, believing them to be 5G. I wouldn’t put it past one or two of these “patriots” to bring a noose.
Did she – Christ…
Don’t think she called for the judges to be hanged now Daisy. Plus – if you know for a fact that the setting fire to hotels and 5G masts are by people who share her views, then you must know those people. You know what to do then?
You can work out that people setting fire to hotels slated for DP and people setting fire to 5G masts are anti-immigrants and people who believe weird things about 5G without knowing them personally, or so it seems to me.
I hope you don’t practice law Nigel – You’d be bankrupt pretty quick.
Yeah because we’re only allowed to reach that conclusion if it’s been a legal finding in a court of law.
It was part of her “following orders” screed.
How all what starts? do you honestly think the state are trying to control our movements? 100 years ago during the Spanish Flu pandemic, people didn’t need to be told twice how to avoid the illness.
The hint of plague in Scotland in 1900 was enough to grant powers in Dublin for public authorities to go in and disinfect houses.
….noy sure if you think this is good or bad?
*not
I was just bringing up a historical example of how seriously we once treated pandemics. Asking people to stay home is quite a level below entering their homes and disinfecting them.
Yeah, I get ya now. It should be taken seriously. The stay at home order has stopped the spread, the numbers prove this. People with tin foil hats are convinced this is all a conspiracy.
‘protection from themselves’ is how the abuse of power starts.
the state is explicitly trying to control everyone’s movements.
“‘protection from themselves’ is how the abuse of power starts.”
You been watching i,Robot again?
‘protection from themselves’
Do you mean like making the wearing of seatbelts in cars mandatory? Do you oppose that sort of law?
hardly the same thing cian.
Cian is the typical diversion meister.
A better analogy would be drink driving.
why not? The “nanny” State forces drivers to wear seatbelts – so if they are in an accident that they will be protected. Or motorcyclist being forced to wear a helmet.
Rob, I don’t think drink driving is the same – that is as much to protest other people form being killed by the drunk driver.
What is wrong with you shinners. Every measure is wrong. Shure let people die whilst you do nothing, as opposed to the Guards enforcing the law. Come up with an alternative if you think current practices and the advice of medical staff is wrong. Do Something instead of effing moaning. Come on, one of you provide a suggestion.
I think it’s funny that the Broadsheet head-the-balls can’t decide if they are radical left-wingers, or extreme-right libertarians.
there’s an awful bang of ‘david’ off this one, rob
Or secret Trump supporters. But if disagree even with their extreme views you are a neo-lib. I would still like a definition of that. Sorry I forgot, they can never answer questions. Schooled by Gerry.
Nope – you, and Giggidy, and the rest, are always saying: “why haven’t the government done this or that, booooooo to the markets”
Then, when the government actually does something, something well within the purview of a government (coordinating a response to a public health crisis), it’s all: “waaaah, our liberty is being abused, don’t tread on me!”
It must be great to live in such a simplistic world Rob
What you’re defending is a ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ Taoiseach and a lad in charge of the Health ministry that tried to tell us that he knew all about Covid-19 – that the 18 before it….etc. – The same fellow, going on his knowledge about the virus, signs legislation pertaining to it. Boo Boo .
What you’re also defending is the Justice Department moving suspected cases of the virus from a Dublin hotel to a Kerry hotel.
‘When the government actually does something.. coordinating a.response….’ ?
You need a long hard look at yourself
Yeah, Rob, come live in the complex, nuanced world of ambiguity and difficult moral choices of LEOOOORGLARGLE! HARRISAAAAARGLE!
Well, Nigel, the only answer to that one is …. ROFL
kittens etc.
Oh Zuppers I just knew you’d be loving this.
I suppose the medical staff working all hours are cowards, while you happily pontificate from the safety of your home. Must feel nice.
I would think the strategy here is that no matter which way it goes, it is a win win. The inconsistent and at times excessive approach of the Guards is starting to wear thin with the general public so no matter how demonised these two are in the media- they will gain an extra following out of it.
And if they win the actual case- which is a possibility- they’ll be singing from the roof tops.
How can the “general public ” be annoyed with the Gardai when they are , presumably, observing the lockdown?
Increasingly they are not- BBQ’s- parties- even kids out on the streets- if policing is by consent then in this sort of situation, there is only so long before it becomes meaningless.
Gemma getting her publicity which equals to youtube views.
So I am sure she will be very happy.
Just leave them at it FFS
My only gripe now with them is that they’re getting listed
And their case heard Infront of a HC Judge
When there are –
Well just speaking for myself
Cases already lodged, fees paid, accepted, and listed that had dates, are now being suspended and delayed because of pandemic restrictions
And the Courts Service leaving my own clients lingering indefinitely
Which only delays their own ‘outcomes’
And this case gets to jump the queue and prioritized
That’s not to say it doesn’t deserve to be heard
But so do many others that are now left circling
I’ve two clients now – one from 23 March the other the 30th awaiting a simple adjudication
With no definite date for their appearance or exit from insolvency
And IMO are being treated unfairly
A waste of jacks paper is what they are.
I knew when Jack Ma bought out the South China Morning Post a few years ago the editorial decision-making was sure to go downhill.
And there is a strong possibility that they could win the case SOQ from noting the Judges observations at the last hearing. When you look at the hames at the NCH, not dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s it could be another calamity .
if the government passed dodgy enough legislation to be successfully challenged by this pair, well they shouldn’t be let anywhere near the Dail ever again.
That is the whole point- the judge has already stated- and I am paraphrasing- that the case would be tried on the legal technicalities rather than the topic. It is entirely possible that the legislation is flawed?
But I must admit, some of that crowd really get on my breasticles. They won’t even let the two who are supposed to be leading them speak let alone anyone else.
breasticles???? Not even moobs?

John Waters is no Alex Jones.
He’s more like a Catholic libertarian Alain de Botton.
Where did it all go wrong for John Waters?
Go on, give an alternative solution. Just once, provide a credible non-political reply (unlike Trump)? I dare you…. go on you can solve it all.
No, I reckon he was you with another name – you even know who I was talking about. Are you Mustard and Fart as well. Not one criticism of you about Gemma (sorry can I mention her name on here without being edited). Yet Leo this and Leo that. Hence one can only assume your support for Gemma (again sorry, please don’t edit). I note as per usual, not a single question answered. Not a single alternative proposed. Why not change all you names to “Moan” or “Moan without a solution” or “Moan, but don’t ask me questions” or “Moan, I am a Trot unless it suits otherwise”… or “Moan, I’ll talk shite and anyone who disagrees is a neo-lib (even though I don’t know what that means)”.
what the feic is that
are you howling at anything in particular there
Nope it is direct reply to Goo above. Just in the wrong order of comments. Sorry if I offended your righteous outlook on everything.
Cluster B
Still no answer to any question or any alternative solution. Seriously turn off the wee fee and go for a walk.
Hairy Mary quite contrary
https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/articles/identification-registration-and-movement-sheep-and-goats
The purpose of the identification and movement of sheep and goats is to make it easier to trace animals.
https://vigilantcitizen.com/latestnews/bill-gates-calls-for-a-digital-certificate-to-identify-who-is-vaccinated/
Everyone should have access to a digital ID that enables them to prove who they are across institutional and international borders and across time, while giving them control over how their personal information is collected, used, and shared
Stay in and stay controlled or ‘safe’ until creepy, unelected, not a doctor, it’s all so ‘superdramatic’ Bill is ready with your vaccine, or maybe listen to the many real doctors and experts who question the lockdown. Isn’t that what democracy is for, to question things not obediently follow orders:

I see the Gemtrails Gang are responsible for the Phoenix Park being closed today.
https://www.thejournal.ie/phoenix-park-protest-5090292-May2020/
The park should not have been closed by the police – but instead, lawbreakers should be arrested or sectioned as appropriate.
The repeated scenes of people huddling together in sizable crowds around plaintiffs in clear breach of the law is a total two-fingers to the rest of us who are having to put up with measures that we may not like but know are being done in our interest.
Off the streets with them!
The reason why GO’D and co are making such a deal about this now is because they know that when the infection/fatality figures are really counted and the financial bill has arrived complete with an unemployment rate not seen since the eighties- people will be asking serious questions as to why such draconian measures were taken.
At that point- it will be a case of ‘I told you so’.
