   I saw something very similar a few years ago, it was late in the day and looked like a vertical pinky orange pillar or column on the horizon – maybe it is a rainbow that has its spectrum altered by sunlight travelling through more of the earths atmosphere as happens at sunset. I did photograph it but the pics didnt do it justice.
