Reading the back papers of “The Irish News” this week – The Ulster GAA Council still believe that The Championship will go ahead. The first match is Tyrone v Donegal in Ballybofey – early June. A conundrum with the Ulster GAA Council is that, Ulster encapsulates Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal – all fine footballing counties – in fact Cavan has the most Ulster Championships – kinda @40ish – I know? I do love football, also the lore of folk – a Cavan Guy, John Joe O’Reilly was a legend – he also played in the first and never to be repeated All-Ireland Football Final outside of Croker – in New York.
Continuing on the GAA thing – Shanghai GAA Club (China) raised $17,500 to send PPEs to Ireland and the UK.
Occasionally, I get negative vibes when I mention GAA on this site – I can’t help what I am. I’ve been in every county in Ireland – that’s by virtue of The GAA – going to matches. The Dubs don’t travel!
In 2004 at the start of the NFL Tyrone played Mayo in Mayo, I travelled with my Dad and Uncle Mick – both former Tyrone players in the 50s/60s to the match, we came through Roscommon, then Mayo – there were Red and White flags everywhere (Tyrone colours) – it was such a respectful acknowledgment of Champions who’d lost a Captain – Cormac MacAnnallen – the full-back on the All-Ireland winning side in ”03 – died on the football field aged 23 -a club match. Mayo beat Tyrone that day. 16 years later – I still think of the Mayo types.

The replay was not short of thuggery by The Dubs when Maurice Fitzgerald entered the field. I got a flashback to ’95 when Charlie Redmond was sent off, he continued to play for 5 minutes, until the ref spotted him. Funny how he (Paddy Russell) was so on the ball when Peter Canavan fisted the ball over the bar to save the game for Tyrone. I think that every Tyrone Gael knows Paddy Russell’s name.

Seven weeks of restrictions have saved lives alright. Can’t argue with that. On the other hand, no restrictions on travel (Cheltenham and the Ireland-Italy non match), making nursing homes open when they should have remained closed, DID cost lives.
Remember the start of this in Ireland? All it took was the arrival of a very small amount of infected people to cause the lockdown. There are a hell of a lot more people infected here now. Whenever the lockdown is lifted, there will still be a hell of a lot with the virus. And it will spread a lot quicker than it has up to now.

There is no doubt but that there are a lot more people who have already been infected than is currently known. Estimates say 50% are asymptomatic but I suspect it is much higher than that as the test only shows current infections.
Although, in some parts of the US they are testing for antibodies too so why they have confidence in their tests yet we don’t have here is unknown.
Another anomaly in the figures is that a lot of people who tested positive are now negative so the actual live infection rate is much lower than the figures quoted.
