I would question the wisdom of offering arbitrary dates for the ease of “The Lock-down”. I guess it may offer hope, light at the end of the tunnel, clichés, etc… Then, ultimately, the goal-posts will be moved (Cliché). False hope is not good for morale. The Unionists in The North at Stormont are raring to get back to work – really? Michelle O’Nelll offers a more sensible/measured/scientific approach – Not yet!
Reading the back papers of “The Irish News” this week – The Ulster GAA Council still believe that The Championship will go ahead. The first match is Tyrone v Donegal in Ballybofey – early June. A conundrum with the Ulster GAA Council is that, Ulster encapsulates Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal – all fine footballing counties – in fact Cavan has the most Ulster Championships – kinda @40ish – I know? I do love football, also the lore of folk – a Cavan Guy, John Joe O’Reilly was a legend – he also played in the first and never to be repeated All-Ireland Football Final outside of Croker – in New York.
Continuing on the GAA thing – Shanghai GAA Club (China) raised $17,500 to send PPEs to Ireland and the UK.
Occasionally, I get negative vibes when I mention GAA on this site – I can’t help what I am. I’ve been in every county in Ireland – that’s by virtue of The GAA – going to matches. The Dubs don’t travel!
In 2004 at the start of the NFL Tyrone played Mayo in Mayo, I travelled with my Dad and Uncle Mick – both former Tyrone players in the 50s/60s to the match, we came through Roscommon, then Mayo – there were Red and White flags everywhere (Tyrone colours) – it was such a respectful acknowledgment of Champions who’d lost a Captain – Cormac MacAnnallen – the full-back on the All-Ireland winning side in ”03 – died on the football field aged 23 -a club match. Mayo beat Tyrone that day. 16 years later – I still think of the Mayo types.
Sorry, I do tend to witter a tad on it.

I agree with you on the arbitrary dates. I hope the GAA gets going. The pandemic is another reason to end partition. Ireland could be a lot better off with a single response. Forcing all arrivals to quarantine has worked well in Australia.

I go to Liverpool for matches on occasion and I have a Dublin season ticket, what’s your point?

          1. Bertie Theodore Alphege Blenkinsop

I’ve been going (being brought) to Dublin matches since 1976, that’s why the past few years have been so much fun.

          2. Bertie Theodore Alphege Blenkinsop

Hope you weren’t exposed to too much Dublin thuggery that day ;)

            (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ah Bisto

            There’s always next year (◠‿◕)

In the meantime if my attempt at Rhubarb Curd goes to plan
I might have a batch of Rhubarb n’ Custard shortybreads for you to test drive before Ant and Dec

Only waiting on the butter to soften up

The best point I’ve ever witnessed, you ask? It was this – Maurice Fitzgerald – Godammit, one of the greats, he fell out of favour with The Kerry management, relegated to the bench – then introduced with no minutes left to save Kerry from The Dubs in 2001. He did

    1. V

Its no secret Páidi didn’t like Maurice’s Starshine dimming his own
But Maurice was also very prone to injury
      And that hurt his career
Then again his time also matched the weakest Kerry football ever had, imo anyway

Many lads got medals just for being on the right panel at the right time
And many lads – some of the greatest players in our games, got eff all
Tony Brown, Ciaran Carey, would start on any all-star hurling side
Tipps Declan Brown would even make last year’s Dublin panel, maybe Limerick’s John Galvin as well

And you could look at legends like the Brians – Corcoran & Whelan, and Eoin Kelly
Given their impact and range – they don’t have much in the Trophy Cabinet, especially the Offaly Lad
Compared to that clothes horse Jackie Tyrrell anyway

Just to add to that beauty of a point

Thurles always brings out the best in players

      That’s particularly sweet
As that xxxxxer Carr did his best to derail him with the most obscene verbal abuse that pretty much ended his time with Dublin

The replay was not short of thuggery by The Dubs when Maurice Fitzgerald entered the field. I got a flashback to ’95 when Charlie Redmond was sent off, he continued to play for 5 minutes, until the ref spotted him. Funny how he (Paddy Russell) was so on the ball when Peter Canavan fisted the ball over the bar to save the game for Tyrone. I think that every Tyrone Gael knows Paddy Russell’s name.

    1. Bertie Theodore Alphege Blenkinsop

A Tyrone fan bemoaning thuggery in others? I think my irony meter just exploded, that’s like Warren Beatty calling someone promiscuous.

      Ah bless

Its like babysitting – you know the warning?

It’s not called babysitting when tis your own

No apologies necessary, honesty is by far the best policy…..

I’m not trying to be funny or facetious when I say this…

What do you think, about the idea or statement that…

Sport is to war, as pornography is to sex.

      ?…

As in, there’s more or less drama in sport/porn depending on the performance being viewed?

        Maybe :)

    https://www.thejournal.ie/queen-address-uk-speech-coronavirus-5067040-Apr2020/
‘We’ll meet again’ says the Queen in her speech.
“We’ll see our friends again’” says the Boy Waster, bordering on plagiarism.

Seven weeks of restrictions have saved lives alright. Can’t argue with that. On the other hand, no restrictions on travel (Cheltenham and the Ireland-Italy non match), making nursing homes open when they should have remained closed, DID cost lives.

Remember the start of this in Ireland? All it took was the arrival of a very small amount of infected people to cause the lockdown. There are a hell of a lot more people infected here now. Whenever the lockdown is lifted, there will still be a hell of a lot with the virus. And it will spread a lot quicker than it has up to now.

    1. Charlie

He’s still on about “Cheltenham”! Don’t you ever tire of yourself? It’s a beautiful day outside. Go for a nice long walk today to help the pain, anger and hatred. Then take advantage of the extra 3k next Tuesday to increase your treatment. As your leader might suggest, ‘work on it in phases’. Happy weekend!

      1. GiggidyGoo

Shouldn’t you tag your name with ‘Proper’ or ‘Checkpoint’ or ‘Benign’?
        And take your own advice?

        1. Cllr Forde, YFG

Sorry Gig’s, Charlie is upset that you outed his sock account, and continuously hammer his unelectable chancer of a so called leader.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Interesting one, easily missed on this article https://www.broadsheet.ie/2020/05/01/why-are-we-paying-more-than-four-times-as-much-per-private-bed-as-they-are-in-the-uk/?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=web&utm_content=popular_posts

Where, in the article, Harris is quoted saying “The costs that will be covered will be limited to normal costs of operating the hospital’
            And I commented
‘Not limited to the costs of actual usage then?’

To which, Cian replied (remember, it was Harris who was quoted)
“I worded that badly. Normal – as in the usual costs – not an elevated cost.”

            Strange old world.

          2. Charlie

Ok, I’ve got your bio now. C student, chip on shoulder, hipster bike and bearded :-)

      2. Mart Cattle

Some people have no friends Charlie, that’s why the statement doesn’t resonate

          1. GiggidyGoo

No thanks. You’re better off to stick with the likes of Charlie or MLAL. Just remember to keep your social distance if that’s possible. And don’t forget the Nilzan.

    2. SOQ

There is no doubt but that there are a lot more people who have already been infected than is currently known. Estimates say 50% are asymptomatic but I suspect it is much higher than that as the test only shows current infections.

Although, in some parts of the US they are testing for antibodies too so why they have confidence in their tests yet we don’t have here is unknown.

Another anomaly in the figures is that a lot of people who tested positive are now negative so the actual live infection rate is much lower than the figures quoted.

If I didn’t look at BS I would never have noticed The Star.. who buys it..? Do they know they live on repeating thread-mill of attacking seagulls, pigeons and Holly Willoughby’s knickers.. then again, as I think about that..

  6. Tommy Bohan

What’s the odds on the “Irish” Mail on Sunday having a picture of Boris Johnson, girlfriend & baby on front page tomorrow?

      1. Cú Chulainn

Ha..!!! Not bad, though the Mail and Express work on an even shorter attention span than the Star.. it’s like religions; you get the brainwashed to pay you to keep them brainwashed..!!
