5.7.4 The term of office of the Party Leader shall normally be five years, with a recurring option for further five year terms. However should a general election be called in the Republic of Ireland, a leadership election must be held within six months following polling day. In the case
of the Party Leader resigning without completing a term, an election shall take place thereupon and the result be announced when the ballot is completed; the term thus started shall last until after the next general election in the Republic of Ireland, when a leadership election must again take place within six months after polling day.

Eamon Ryan is the least appropriate person in the universe to do that.
Good old Eamon Ryan, selflessly opening the seacocks on his party’s support for another decade at the first sniff of a chance to, er, reverse the massive diesel incentive scheme that his party instituted the last time around.
Apparently .. “two-thirds voting membership support is required to endorse any Programme for Government…” per Green Party rules.
So therefore Green party members will ultimately decide if the Greens go into Government.
Can I remind the Green TDs that they were elected by the people not the party so they should just get on with it.
TDs first duty is to serve the people that elected them and such duty should take precidence over any party obligations by a long long way.
And that goes for any party.
Yea naive to suggest it I know but there’s are extraordinary times.
Yes, maybe. But what did Green Party voters vote for? It has to be for coalition, but, I doubt very much if they voted for a repeat of the last coalition they joined!
However bad that was, joining FFG is no improvement. Unless that pair of gangsters have had a change of mind. Does anybody believe that?

As things stand, the next GE will be a two-and-a-half-way FF/SF +FG battle.
If SF field more candidates they will
(1) split the SF vote (they won’t top the polls or get in on the first round)
(2) not have any spill-over transfers (that benefited the independents and other small parties)
(3) allow FF gain more seats (see #1 & #2)
Any Party that consolidates the grab for power by Fine Gael and Fianna Fail
is doomed,, the electorate spoke in February and they were ignored and since
then Fine Gael with the connivence of Fianna Fail and sections of the media
have allowed the charade to continue.
The electorate spoke in February (seems a different world away now) and what the voted for is exactly what they are going to get.
