Seán O’Rourke at the first broadcast of Today with Seán O’Rourke after taking over from Pat Kenny on RTÉ Radio 1 at The RTE Radio Centre on September 2, 2013
Today is Sean O’Rourke’s last day on Radio 1. 💙
It’s hard to fit 7 great years into one video. Thank you Sean, you’ll be missed. #TodaySOR @TodaySOR pic.twitter.com/pu1UnS294x— RTÉ Radio 1 (@RTERadio1) May 8, 2020
This morning.
Farewell then Today with Seán O’Rourke.
Our most transcribed radio show.
Often biased, sometimes brilliant, usually professional, in fairness.
FIGHT!

He will be missed on the radio. One of the best radio shows on the air. Always found him to be engaging, smart, witty and likeable. RTE missed a trick not trying to keep him on the air.
He’s a staffer rather than a contractor so has little choice other than to retire at 65, AFAIK.
Gracious and dignified au revoir from Sean with heartfelt appreciation from guests and friends.
Maith an fear, a Sheain.
…for as long as I remember the radio was tuned to RTE1 and never changed…it went on first thing in the morning and turned off last thing at night…the rot started a few years ago when I started switching things off – Ronan Collins, Tubridy, Miriam, Joe Duffy, Ray D’arcy. I think I gave big ballsey more than a fair chance but he’s gone now as well…the trend doesn’t look good for this slot…as they might say on Broadsheet…gonna need a smaller radio…
Same here. SoR would be the only one I’d turn the radio on for.
Gone because he is 65? Blinkered decision.
Gone because he’s 65 and a man.
It’s mostly because he’s a man and therefore a vessel for evil.
It’s depressing
I think retirement is something that so many people are really scared of and therefore avoid.
Retirement can offer great freedom and opportunity and I’m simple amazed at the modern trend to denigrate it.
It’s simply great!!
If you can do it financially then don’t miss your chance – it’s later than you think as the song goes
I’d retire right now if I could afford it ah eh hem 21 ;)
I hear that FFG may need a press officer soon.
He’s been their on air press officer for years.
Incredibly talented
but impossibly conservative
that being said, a great asset on the national payroll is being lost
although I suspect a Contractor role awaits him
…all those cute hoors he interviewed over the years has rubbed of…out the door while the pension and pay off still exceeds the the salary…then back in before the door has stopped revolving…
‘suppose it starts tonight with the Late Late
It’s probably an RTE do for him, a send off and use it to provide free programming
FFS
What are they all going to do out there with no Ploughing, No GAA, No Rose filling up their roster
There is only so many Reeling in the Years reruns they can get away with
BTW Folks I’m predicting an RTE bailout any day now
Circa 120m package
Well we won’t have to listen to his obsequious interviews with the FFG crowd any more.
Or his disgracefully biased interviews with members of SF.
I liked him, sorry to see him go.
He assured he will have plenty of gigs lined up for him by his mates. Look at Olivia O’Leary – a drive time platform for her pontificating-and more.
A FG hack.
+1
I am sure he will be back in the swing of things in the Autumn
