I’ll always love Summer In Dublin. It’s been a comfort song since I left the country in ‘98.

404 for me too… odd as it worked earlier.

        Try a different one here…

I saw them play here 4 times. 1990, a few years later in maybe 1993, then in maybe 2015 (can’t remember) in Vicar Street and then in 2018 in the Button Club. Love them. Saw them in New York a couple of times too….

    Modjo – Lady
One of my all time favourite Summer tunes. Every time I hear it, it brings me back to Summer 2000. I remember it coming out just after my final exam in the leaving cert and it just epitomised the freedom of having the exams done. The joy of feeling a massive weight had just been lifted and we could all go out and enjoy the sunshine. Blissful times.

Love it! That tune and Groovejet were great summer tunes/memories!
FYI.That entire Modjo album is a little gem with live lounge versions on disc 2!

  3. Clampers Outside

Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, in 1991

It does exactly as it says on the tin, or in the lyrics, provides a “soft subtle mix” to “break the monotony of all that hardcore dance” of the era, as the song lyrics call for chiller (summer) times, and that cued with the classic beat, more reminiscent of tracks from an earlier period, as per the sampled Kool & The Gang track ‘Summer Madness’.

Me, I think it has a timeless quality, as good music does :)

Mr Smith had a knack for this kinda pop, and pulled off another in a similar vein with Gettin’ Jiggy With It in 1997.

Even though I just dropped my own suggestion in, this is what I thought should be the definitive summer track

      1. Bertie Theodore Alphege Blenkinsop

Clampers, I think Steve is looking to share a taxi with yourself and Will.

  4. Clampers Outside

Keep ’em coming, I’m putting these into a playist on deh’ tube :)

Really? Wouldn’t be a Jerry Seinfeld fan. He’s too “have u seen this?” Will give it a look see.

        1. Bertie Theodore Alphege Blenkinsop

I found it brilliant but he’d be my type of humour, probably won’t convert you :)

Aztec Camera – Somewhere In My Heart

Summer in the city where the air is still
A baby being born to the overkill
    Who cares what people say
    We walk down love’s motorway

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4pWcVPUybE

Not really about summer, but the opening instantly forces me to turn up the volume & roll down the window. Sunny pop perfection.

  6. Pee Pee

Nobody mentioning Daft Punk’s new single “Get Lucky”? Check it out if u get the chance. Sound of the summer.

    Umboza Sunshine

Reminds me of the first time I had friends as a loner in Achill Island at 15 years of age on holiday

Then boom five years later I go on to meet people who become my best ever friends.. now at 37 I have loads of mates!!

    Life !

    1. Boj

Say “Mr Blue-Sky” really slowly through a harmonica and you got the outro..ha!

    1. bertie blenkinsop

If you run out of tunes before I get to the vinegar strokes, I can suggest plenty more…..

Remember my dad playing The Kinks’ Sunny afternoon on the record player at home. We used to holiday in Donegal, where he was from, and I remember one hot summer back in the 80s ( weren’t they all when we were young)and us sitting in the back of the old Renault 12 as we drove down to the beach. The song came on the radio , the volume was adjusted higher, we all smiled and it was just the perfect song to go with a perfect sunny summer day!

  9. Moose

Battleflag by the Lo Fidelity Allstars, soundtracked my summer in 1998, jokes & yokes

    1. Specific Gravity

I’d forgotten how good that is. Unashamed to admit their RDS gig in 88 or so was a blast . Some strong musicians in that band.

  10. Niall

    “Oh what a daaaaayyyy……”

Love this song. It always puts a smile on my face and a pep in my step

Bright, Smiley, Happy, Hopeful and joyful, it brings me back to a more carefree summer in the late 90s

Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you PictureHouse and Sunburst

  11. Morgen Scheißekopf

    Black Lace, Agadoo
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POv-3yIPSWc
What young ladies man didn’t sneer towards the kiddies club when they first heard this abroad. Then, several years later, didn’t thank the high heavens when it meant a few minutes relief from constant pestering.
    You know who we are!

The Lovin’ Spoonful – Summer in the City https://youtu.be/lwZdDyH9LLc
The coolest intro: two notes and a snare, repeated and then… “hot town…”
With a crazy instrumental and a genius piano riff half way through, it’s all wrapped up in two and a half minutes. Hard to beat for its evocative conjuring of a sweltering downtown. Up there with the kinks but just a shade cooler imho.

Sorry I am late to the party – I ate a yoghurt that decided to gain sentience and have revenge.

Actually, my favourite summertime song is one my Brother wrote many years ago, called Blue Sun to a (naturally) blues riff. I cannot find it online, and without his permission do not feel I can post it. But still sing it to myself regularly as it makes me feel better.
    Chorus goes:
Maybe my being blue is what you want, but I don’t understand
The only thing I know in this whole world is I wanna be your loving man

I guess it sings to the hopeful romantic in me :-)

    Obligatory Muppets Summertime song :-)

I had not realised it was that long ago! Next Saturday will have to be a special!

          Yeah
Twitter was full of Hensen tributes and historical links the last few days

          If it’s your thing
          Folly @MuppetHistory
and the official blue ticked @The Muppets hasn’t taken the Disney sugar coated corpo speak pills, it’s very much its own voice

Anyway, here’s a little Jim that might make some of ye (works for me anyway – sometimes) hold it together for another bit

Btw Kermit was 65 himself there a few days ago

And here’s Jim Henson’s Puppets first appearance on Telly

Thanks Bodger. I am outlasting the lactostrepto… the yoghurt!

Bananas are now in my future, I hope!
