      i think its more the gathering and sociability of the whole pints scene. i know i for one miss the company more than the pints

         Same here. I’m a regular social drinker and haven’t touched it in over 2 months. I could have easily glugged away at home but it doesn’t cut the mustard.

      Some people’s obsessional concern with the fact that some of us like a pint is….. well not disturbing but rather… strange?
      It’s not compulsory.
      What I really miss is talking sh!+e !!

   Admire the initiative but are there legal problems here?:
   Constance Cassidy SC, (she of LIssadell house and an expert on licensing law) was on the radio the other day discussing situations like this. From her I gathered that price of drink could only be collected at the pub as it is the licensed premises. Deliver of prepaid completed drinks was OK – but I’m not sure how dispensing from the back of a van is affected?

         That is all legal as long as they don’t charge for the beer.

         Now if they were to change €2 for the salted-peanuts and gave away a free pint…..

            Sadly that one has never worked. The owner of a shebeen always says “I never charged for drinks… sure it was only a few friends who would come around and leave a few pounds in the donations box.” If it is clear that the situation was “no donation/peanuts/ashtray rental, no drink”, a conviction swiftly follows.

            Vanessa rightly says that thousands are at it. As usual, the answer is don’t get caught. In fairness, these things do usually start and in almost all cases stay in a very small way – a keg sourced somewhere and a few friends around splitting the cost. Nothing wrong with that (save that the tap equipment is usually hooky.) It’s usually only the ones that get greedy who end up being investigated.

            Maybe the tax man needs to visit the man cave re Licence and if anyone injured them self from an accident under the influence a legal writ will follow and a claim on your insurance at best a charge on your house at worst

      This is illegal as it defies health and unless the van has s Licence to dispense alcohol it’s illegal
      It also gives a bad name to publicans
      The point of ordering from
      The pub paying there and a third agent delivers the poured pint is covered under off sales
