This afternoon.

Via The Irish Times:

Gardaí are expected to operate a scaled-down operation this bank holiday weekend to enforce the coronavirus movement restrictions as the force switches focus from roads to parks, beaches and beauty spots.

While an enforcement operation will be in place this weekend, it is expected to be on a smaller scale and will focus on road safety rather than enforcing the movement restrictions.

This week Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said over the coming weeks the force’s coronavirus policing will focus on monitoring the movement restrictions through “community engagement at key locations such as parks, beaches and natural beauty spots

Leo Varadkar (right) in Phoenix Park Dublin last Sunday

[Leo Varadkar] said [On FM104 earlier] that there will be no repeat picnic in the park this weekend as he doesn’t “want to give my press officer a heart attack or anything.”

He said: “Unfortunately there are camera phones anywhere there are people these days but that’s the way it is. You have to live your life. And if you’re afraid of photographs you’d never go out.”

For those seeking sun further afield there’s an interesting loophole opening up for those fancying a trip to the Greek islands after June 15th.
Ireland like the UK is not on the list of approved countries from where tourists can travel from but there’s nothing to stop Irish people travelling to one of those countries and then on to Greece.
” Furthermore, current exclusions relate to where the flight originates from and not to the traveller’s nationality. ”

These sort of very obvious loopholes are why the whole travel arrival quarantine thing is bonkers.

That and the fact Ireland has a land border with NI, which tens of thousands of people cross every day.

Barf. More like. “Hey theres a story coming out about deaths in care homes/ cost of the economic turmoil I misguidedly inflicted on the population – so i think I’ll have to do a diversion’ \Can you organise a few Gardai”
‘Afterwards I’ll play the man trying to be normal in the face of adversity card’

    Sick making.

varadkars take on breaking guidelines: “my poor PR guys. It’s a pity people took photos of me.”
as expected. no accountability, it’s other people’s fault for catching me. This could be fine for a regular Joe. But he is the leader of the country and is meant to set the best example. Not this rubbish.

He or his PR man needn’t worry. Our domestic media are determined to look the other way, on this and other more serious issues. They did the same during the housing bubble, in fact cheered it on.
Now they worry why people don’t value them?

Why has the Garda failed to enforce the emergency regulations on the 4 prats failing to keep a social distance?

Seems bizarre for the Gardai to be announcing in advance of the weekend that they won’t really be bothering to enforce the law.

    Aye.
The Phoenix Park is (literally) the size of Liechteinstein. If you want to meetup with pals, there’s no shortage of scenic places. If you want to be spotted, however, you should stand by the ‘monument’/the Wellington memorial.

May be worth noting that the scenes adorning the monument (apparently made by melting cannons taken from the enemy) depict the battle of Waterloo — which marked the end of the career of a roothless and self-serving media-savvy megalomaniac.
