Last night/This morning
White House, Washington DC.
At least five US police were shot during violent protests over the death of a black man in police custody, hours after President Donald Trump vowed to use the military to halt the unrest.
Trump deepened outrage on Monday by posing at a church clutching a bible after law enforcement officers used teargas and rubber bullets to clear the way for him to walk there after he made his remarks in the White House Rose Garden
It comes after an official post-mortem has found that George Floyd, whose death at the hands of Minneapolis police triggered protests across the US, was killed by “homicide”.

George Floyd’s brother said yesterday at a rally that their family is a “God fearing and church going family” and called for an end to the violent protests.
It’s a lot bigger than George Floyd’s death now, I’m afraid. This was simply the spark that fueled a fire long in the making.
What a pity the police aren’t listening.
the buck stops at the white house.
He was speaking to and of violent protesters Nigel, and addressed the issue of the problem with bad policing in the same speech.
But hey, you do you, you brush him off flippantly as you like. I’ll listen to the guy as he pleads with people to stop committing violent crime in his brothers’ name.
The problem with bad policing IS the problem.
Exactly, just take the difference in police behaviour between the reopen the states protests, where the police reacted passively to openly armed protestors, to their behaviour during the current protests where they are even assaulting members of the press who have their credentials on display.

You mean teargas and rubber bullets?
Peaceful protestors in Brooklyn last night, started at Barclays and peacefully marched all evening.

It would be deeply unchristian of me to write what I think of him for that stunt (amongst hundreds of others). So I’ll just say tinky too.
i thought wishing it was enough to get you ten hail marys :P
The church was burned by protesters- in what way was that going to advance their cause?
The church was not burned by protesters. The windows were boarded up. The crowd dispersed by tear gas included clergy belonging to the church.
Eh, no…. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/historic-church-near-white-house-damaged-amid-unrest-leaders-pray-for-healing/2318673/
“D.C. Firefighters found a fire in the basement of St. John’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, authorities said. A large fire also burned outside the church at one point.
The nursery was set on fire, Rector Rev. Rob Fisher said.”
Yes, there was a fire. There’s no indication it was set by protestors, and certainly not the protestors cleared out by the tear gas.
LOL! Two fires burn on the premises of a church, one in its basement and one on the front of the building amid the worst rioting the US has seen in years and you come out with that….
Going by your past commentary, I guess you assume it was the police then…
Oh that’s ok then, the fires self combusted. Nigel get a grip.
Clampers…….I think we all agree that peaceful protests would be better. Unfortunately, lots of groups have an interest in seeing that change to riots and looting. The right whingers can blame the victims and have an excuse not to listen to the reasonalbe demands of the oppressed. One of the root causes, aprat form racism, is the lack of gun control. If cops weren’t scared of getting shot, if the olice forces hadn’t become militarised, things would be a lot better.
+1
Whoever it was I’m sure they were right to tear-gas the clergy away for Trump’s creepy photo-op.
Changing the narrative now Nige.
I’m sorry, you’re right. Tear gassing a crowd to make space for a photo-op is awesome because a fire.
No it wasn’t !

Church vandalism and persecution is something that I’ve raised on here, I think. It’s a real issue. But, in this instance, it’s clear that this was a publicity stunt….Trumps visit that is. When politicians visit churches (or mosques, temples) that have been damaged or had some other tragedy befall them, they ring ahead and arrange to meet the clergy and worshippers. They don’t just turn up, stand outside waving a Bible (turning its spin to camera so the photographers can read the title), get a photo, and leave.
…but…but Justine…I thought you christians had decreed that Trump was guided by god…
..in fairness bisted, this was a propaganda stunt which was immediately condemned by many faith leaders in US including very eloquently and spiritually by the head this church.
Lol, “you Christians.”
“I am outraged. The President did not pray when he came to St. John’s, nor as you just articulated, did he acknowledge the agony of our country right now,”
“And in particular, that of the people of color in our nation, who wonder if anyone ever — anyone in public power will ever acknowledge their sacred words. And who are rightfully demanding an end to 400 years of systemic racism and white supremacy in our country. And I just want the world to know, that we in the diocese of Washington, following Jesus and his way of love … we distance ourselves from the incendiary language of this President. We follow someone who lived a life of nonviolence and sacrificial love.”
“We align ourselves with those seeking justice for the death of George Floyd and countless others,” she continued. “And I just can’t believe what my eyes have seen.”

We have seen this show before. It usually ends with the hard man being brought to justice. Usually, the hard man is not a coward who avoided serving his country due to bone spurs.
Imagine being from Ireland, a country with oppression and resistance intertwined deeply into its very make-up, and handwringing about long downtrodden people daring to make their voices heard and standing up against systemic mistreatment.
The worst thing is that the US police forces have continued to act deplorably as this has gone on, so it’s not as if they maintain some moral high ground on it all either
Stealing stuff for a good cause.
Ordinary decent criminals.
Battering people violently for a good cause. Ordinary decent cops.
G’wan brothers and sisters. Heroes don’t have to wear capes or scrubs. Black Lives Matter.
That march over to the church from the White House
with his detail
Press play on it again
Only now picture Trump with jet black jellied hair
He’s learned from the best (⌐■-■)
