‘The Polker Sisters’ Margaret Carroll (left) and Nannie McLoughlin
Meet the poker sisters of Monto. by Martin Coffey folklore member.
The sisters ran brothels in Gloucester Lane off Railway Street Dublin. We have in storage the “Monto Cross” that hung over one of the Madams beds & would later be hung over beds of dying prostitutes of Monto. pic.twitter.com/sfp9baVQ1v— Terry Fagan (@Monto22) June 4, 2020

There is a need for a Public Monument to commemorate all those who sweated and
toiled in their efforts to satisfy the needs and lust of the inhabitants of the then British
Empire and indeed the fledgling Free State until Frank Duff went to work with the Catholic
Church hiding behind his coat tails.
They have such dublin faces. God love them, that was a tough old game.
