The Express is consistent………Good old Boris will save them from nasty EU, nasty virus, nasty Labour, nasty reality.

    1. SOQ

Not going to happen- too much to loose once this recession starts to bite- it’s all theatre- they will merge.

    2. Ringsend Incinerator

The Express? No Princess Di angle to Maddie? Standards in delusional Tory breakfast spluttering in Hemel Hempstead and Monkstown be slipping.

RIP Tomás Clancy. A very fine wine correspondent indeed. One of our better journalists.

I wonder if the piebald mongrel government will be formed? If so the first get-together meal will be interesting with all of them eating humble pie with a base ingredient of their own poo that they spread during the election.

    1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

What’s the base ingredient of an SF pie? Fear, intimidation, knee cap fragments?

Remember a vote for SF/IRA is a vote for murder.

      1. GiggidyGoo

Still nothing to offer then? Unable to string a sentence or train of thought together still? Still in assumption mode? Tsk tsk!

      2. Daisy Chainsaw

A vote for FFG is a vote for Noonan’s paedo pal raping another special needs child.

Some reports of a Racist stabbing of 17 year old in Carrigaline last night. RTE inform us “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, and for any road users who may have camera footage who were travelling in the area at the time to make the footage available to gardaí.”
Well, there is mobile phone camera footage circulating on the internet which is a lot better than any dash cam footage, posted by one of the attendees. Good place to start?

      1. SOQ

Its all over the place- not hard to find.

The poor fella was unconscious and bleeding and some thug still giving him the boot.

          1. SOQ

            @gardainfo have already been informed.

These clowns are so thick they actually included some of their own faces.

        1. GiggidyGoo

And still continuing to stab him in the back while he was helpless on the ground.

        2. Baz

look again, that was stabbing and slashing continuing, not a boot.
the victim saved by the girl covering him

I’ve seen a lot of far right provocateur types try to turn it into a race related thing but like…i haven’t seen any evidence of that or indication in the video? Maybe these lads are all just pups of the highest order? Pretty sad to see it turned into some proxy war for G*aroid Murphy and Co in the fight against ‘Irish replacement’ or whatever boogeyman they’re up against this week

        1. class wario

Wow, it has hundreds of years of context? Crazy stuff. Didn’t realise Carrigaline was such a hot-spot for white slavery and oppression, my bad.

          1. GiggidyGoo

And you managed to extract that opinion from a comparison of two videos?
Racism these days doesn’t need an excuse of historical ‘oppression’ to manifest itself does it?

          2. class wario

I think some of you are too preoccupied with picking up on ‘indicators of racism’ at a micro level, especially in America. Nobody is protesting about police racism after the George Floyd killing because Chauvin called him a racist slur. Its because decades of policing have shown a clear bias in how the now extremely militarised police in the US deal with non white people. Its about how the US justice systems treat white and non white people differently for the same crimes. Its because hundreds of years of subjugation still feeds into these institutions and wasn’t just undone by civil rights legislation passed in the last few decades. That’s all.

          3. GiggidyGoo

Racism these days are a mix of historical oppression in some countries and plain anti black/white attitudes in others. What you’re witnessing in Ireland (not in the NSM mind you) in various videos being posted by the instigators, is racism nonetheless.
I looked up the Gearoid Murphy you mentioned. Isn’t he drawing attention to news items that aren’t being reported in detail, if at all, by the MSM? Why aren’t you asking the thinking about the scant coverage by the MSM?
(Incidentally – thanks to your mention of him, I find another racist attack in Limerick a couple of days ago.)

          4. class wario

There is no proof or context that suggests this is racist apart from the fact that the perpetrator was apparently black and the victim white. And this has been reported in several outlets from what I can see. I find it a bit mad (and disappointing) that somebody who has made perfectly sensible contributions on here before is perfectly happy to happily consume output from actual fascists and white nationalists truth be told.

          5. GiggidyGoo

Which news outlets mentioned the black and white aspect?

What I consume news wise it across the board. I get a good cross section. If this particular thing had have happened the other way round, i’d have called it the opposite way round as well.

Labelling posters as racist, fascist is a poor tactic to try stifle debate. But it’s one that’s constantly used when there’s nothing else to offer.

          6. SOQ

And there was no proof or context that suggests what initially happened in Minnesota was racist apart from the fact that the perpetrator was white and the victim black?

Unfortunately, in this current climate, people are having their conformation biases amplified by hidden actors with their own agendas. My personal view is that at this time of crisis, this race issue did not just raise it head by accident- that it is being stoked. For whatever reason and by whom- remains to be seen.

Now you may say that is a conspiracy theory but as they go it is actually not a bad one because if it encourages people- both black and white- to realise they are being played and cop the fluck on- everyone wins.

          7. Nigel

A string of incidents of police violence and killings of black people, some recent, many going back years and decades, and studies which are showing that black people are disproportionately affected by covid while Trump pushes agressively for reopening the country after botching the response are what stoked it, as far as I can tell. What more do they need?

          8. SOQ

Racial incidents have been going on for a very long time and although it doesn’t suit the narrative, a higher % of whites than blacks are killed by the US police. The biggest killer of blacks in US is of course- by far- other blacks.

As for the BAME % rate of Covid-19, I expect the main reason is socioeconomic because they are usually less well off and way more cramped living spaces. But even if that is not the case, poorer people are more keen to return to work- because they have no choice.

I keep asking why now? I have yet to hear or read one reason which even remotely makes sense. If there is a spike in CoVid-19 fatalities after this, there is no reason to assume it will not disproportionately affect BAME like before.

            Something just doesn’t add up.

      1. Ghost of Yep

Yeah, some clown making a vid online fupp all people watch is the sad part…ffs…

Maybe these lads are just pups? Stabbing. Repeatedly. To a bloodied kid on the ground? I would consider that more than being a pup. Call it what it is.

        1. class wario

Yeah, fascists opportunistically using a stabbing as a means to push white replacement theory and tile up other people into thinking the same is sad. Not sure how somebody could disagree with that!

I’ve already said the stabbing is terrible. Pretty weird that you’re trying to goad me into using an ‘acceptable’ descriptor. What would you prefer? Do any of the words used here really capture the awfulness of it?

          1. class wario

I mean it’s clearly not suggested anywhere that I think it’s good. You haven’t addressed why you take issue with me flagging the opportunistic far right trying to take advantage of this.

          2. Ghost Yep

“I mean it’s clearly not suggested anywhere that I think it’s good.”

Yet, still oddly hesitant to condemn it.

          3. GiggidyGoo

            To take advantage of ‘this’.
What do think the ‘this’ is?

And why do you think the far right, as you call them, think any differently that a lot of people?

          4. class wario

Haha this is like the ultimate what you would probably call ‘virtue signal’. Demanding somebody call a plainly bad thing bad and suggest they support it until they do! So here you go:

Somebody getting stabbed and attacked is very bad!

Now you condemn the use of this incident by far right provocateurs to fuel their own coffers and conspiracy theories about white replacement. Without trying to downplay it. Or else I can only assume you support it

          5. GiggidyGoo

Great. You called it as it is – bad. I’ve called it as it is too -bad, and if it happened the other way round, it’d also be – bad.

You’re the one that is bringing far right and fascism into the debate. I didn’ t make any comment about them. I commented on what happened and the video which showed what happened. That video was posted by who do you think? Not the far right, but by a person who was in attendance and who was providing video recording of the incident so that it could be posted on line.
I’m not a member or have any allegiances to left, right, center, far-right, center left, or whatever other labels are put on people.
If you say that the far right are sharing this video to fuel coffers and put forward conspiracy theories, who am I to disagree or agree? I don’t know if what you write is true or untrue.
I do know however that this incident was recorded and posted on line by some person that isn’t far right.

          6. Ghost of Yep

“Demanding somebody call a plainly bad thing bad and suggest they support it until they do!”

            Silence is violence. Right?

I hereby condemn anyone who is willing politicize this incident for hateful and dishonest gain.

    2. rotide

If anyone is unsure if we have racism in Ireland, look at twitter when it comes to this video.

The amount of white replacement, ‘sure look at the UK, arent they all violent’ is soul crushingly depressing.

Like a lot of people , i think the BLM marches here were for a good cause but were downright dangerous in light of covid. Thinking this caused me to wonder was there a hint of unconsious racism at work. Reading social media on this attack has cured me of that instantly.

There’s some really nasty people in this country that are delighted with this

J.K. Rowling Gets Backlash Over Anti-Trans Tweets

‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?

“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth,” she wrote. “The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women — ie, to male violence – ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences — is a nonsense.”

      1. SOQ

J K Rowling may have voiced opinions on that case previously but that is what what this tweet was about- she was reacting to the dexev.com opinion piece which uses the term ‘People who menstruate.’

….no injuries, but an empty police car was burnt-its ashes now spell BLACK LIVES MATTER on the sidewalk, people drop off flowers, light candles, this is Spike Lee’s hood one my favorite parts Brooklyn.

Two lawyers widely reported here, one my greatest memories have been the peaceful nature of the protests, are they edgy-yeah at times but violent nah, curfew lifted last night so police will now have dial back their drama and violence.

“He was a Princeton-educated corporate lawyer. She provided legal services for the poor. Now they are accused in a Molotov cocktail attack on a police car.

“The pair took to the streets on May 29 with thousands of New Yorkers who were voicing their outrage over Mr. Floyd’s death. But after midnight, police officers spotted them in a tan minivan driving through the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. At one point, Ms. Rahman climbed out, walked toward an empty police patrol car and threw a Molotov cocktail through its broken window, prosecutors said.”

there is absolutely racism in Ireland, I could give many first hand examples, the most odious aimed at a eight year old child on the train to Cork, we were doing French homework and she didn’t realize we could understand her I guess, soon put her back in her box,

  8. Ringsend Incinerator

It has taken a death overseas to take the blinkers off here to just how white Irish people are.

    Ireland, your time is up.

Can we not because of this virus just grieve at wakes, bury our grandparents and try to heal first? Or is that all a bit ‘too Irish’ for you?

Thin ice darling- we are very raw right now.

One the nastiest some may say the nastiest woman in The White House press pool is Yamiche Alcindor, she was with the NYT now at PBS.

This her first podcast at NewsHour, its excellent,PBS is also featuring some great programming on race in America at moment-Race Matters: America in Crisis, A PBS NewsHour Special is up there.

A very long, very loud existential scream.

“Amid the largest pandemic in a century, we’re also experiencing the biggest protest movement in a generation. In this episode, protesters in Minneapolis and Washington, D.C., tell White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and Political Reporter Daniel Bush about why they’ve taken to the streets after the death of George Floyd — and why this moment feels different.”

Seriously Johnny- is NYC not also burying its virus dead?

Are you saying that at your age you don’t know even an elderly neighbour who was taken?

        1. Johnny

If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don’t have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that’ll be the end of it.

          1. SOQ

            Eh?

Johnny I have no agenda- I am just trying to make sense of this madness is all.

NYC went from one crisis to another in such a short time- and then all of a sudden, the first no longer seemed to matter. The city was ravaged by CoVid-19 and people died in their thousands and yet now- not a word of it.

If that virus is still around then surely after all this there will be a spike again?

          2. V'ness

I’m not sure you’re in a position to interrogate Johnny Hamptons
