Last night
Asymptomatic transmission refers to transmission of the virus from a person, who does not develop symptoms.
Meanwhile….
“From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual. It’s very rare.”
Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove (above), head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, at a news briefing from the United Nations agency’s Geneva headquarters yesterday.
Anyone?

Um.
Meanwhile…
I decided to share this. It's on me, not @patphelan
I would like to first apologise to Pat, who is as decent and caring a human as you'll meet
Most importantly, I'd like to unreservedly apologise to all nurses, the @INMO_IRL, @HSELive and families https://t.co/OZfADnF914

Good times.
“Rare” means that yes it can happen.
And “rare” can be of a “certain amount”.
And VERY rare is even more rare eh?
The best description I have head of this virus is that if you lined 1000 of them up in a row- they would about the same width as a human hair.
It is also important to note that “asymptomatic” is not the same as “pre-symptomatic”.
both were talking about asymptomatic
I didn’t they weren’t. I am pointing out that there are three categories not two.
Asymptomatic JavaScript and XML. Can’t beat the aul ‘ AJAX for knocking up them track and trace apps all the same.
(Gets CSS coat)
Paddy… Oh Paddy…. still a *moderated*
Absolute gobsheen. He can go poo himself and his little weasel friend Pat.
Does the fact he organised a shipment of PPE from China for nursing care staff at a time when the HSE were sitting scathing themselves not count at all?
No
Don’t shoot him down over one mistake. He was right about a lot. Especially the money being paid to private hospitals and the lack of PPE. Not to mention acquiring PPE. Remove the blinkers.
Oh gawd. I’m sorry – no, I’m sorry. I’m sorrier than you. No, I’m sorriest. But I was sorry first. Yes, but….
The atonement has started. Shall we go to the web summit of Mt Sinai and pray?
@Bodger – why am I in permanent moderation? Living in fear cannot be good for you…
Ringsend Inicnerator, I didn’t place you there. I’ll have a ‘word’.
bodger, would you like me to take on the job of placing people into moderation, releasing those who have served their time or shown themselves worthy of clemency ?
I think I’d do a good job – very firm, sort of fair
You would for sure, but it’s Chompsky’s realm.
…you forgot to mention your experience barabas…
busted, bisted – lets see if 3 weeks on the naughty step softens your cough, eh? with an option to extend depending on your attitude
no problem – not for me to slip into another man’s shorts
The medics seem to know bugger all about this virus. For instance, are all those people with ongoing symptoms coming and going for months dealing with crazed immune response or with a virus that is ‘dormant’ and reactivated at intervals. If the latter, is it still contagious? No one seems to know.
At least Paddy apologised, he’s still a berk though.
True dat!
+10 for the apology -8 for him taking 3 months to apologise.
And how long will it take Harris and Holohan to apologise for the lack of PPE in nursing homes?
Did he not apologize sooner than this?
Another backtrack from the WHO:
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/09/who-scrambles-to-clarify-comments-on-asymptomatic-coronavirus-spread-much-is-still-unknown.html
‘ “I was responding to a question at the press conference. I wasn’t stating a policy of WHO or anything like that. I was just trying to articulate what we know,” she said on a live Q&A streamed across multiple social media platforms. “And in that, I used the phrase ‘very rare,’ and I think that that’s misunderstanding to state that asymptomatic transmission globally is very rare. I was referring to a small subset of studies…
“Some estimates of around 40% of transmission may be due to asymptomatic, but those are from models, so I didn’t include that in my answer yesterday, but wanted to make sure that I covered that here,” Kerkhove said. ‘
Maybe certain funder(s) didn’t like what they were hearing ;)
