“British History Matters” – oh, the irony. I think it should say ‘Selected British History Matters’. If more British people knew their history, they would be in a better position. They will just focus on WW1 and WW2, so that they can talk about a war where they happened to be on the right side.

So now Baden Powell’s statue is in the crosshairs. Aint that a kick in the ging gang goolies
Well he takes the piss out of the Australian Priest too.
The basis of the joke is partly the accents and then the outlandish scenario.
I’m not sure I see how this is racist. A white man does an impression of a white man and a black man.
I could be wrong though. Being genuine here.

Badly..

Maybe the two police officers (The Metro above) didn’t genuflect to their new masters?
Charlie
Let’s just burn every history book and pretend nothing happened.
Holden
Or write accurate ones.
Charlie
Impossible. The goalposts are moved to fit so many agendas. Let’s burn patriotism while we’re at it. Room 101 for all the poo.
Holden
So if wrote a history book to say “This man built these docks and these other city buildings. However he paid for them with his profits from slave trading.”
You think this will be corrected again in the near future? That hasn’t been the case so far. As we have been seeing.
How can the addition of truth be a bad thing?
NobleLocks
Well then you’d be moralizing, judging, virtue signalling and being offended on other people’s behalf. I prefer my History with relevant facts and not through the lens of an SJW who is permanently offended..

Holden
You added a lot to what I said there.
I don’t feel permanently offended. The only one who seems offended here is you.
I think we have a problem if we can’t add facts/truth to our history.
Holden
Also we must always be updating our knowledge of the past as someone somewhere wrote down that guy’s story so we know how he paid for those docks/buildings.
We are always adding to our knowledge. What I think is hard for us to do is update our individual understanding of the past. Especially if that new information challenges us to change in reaction to it.
millie von strumpet
Well said Holden. A couple of really great comments about how we should not be afraid of adding new/additional information to history. Making this distinction is very important too, I think. Not rewriting history, but making sure that it is an unbiased and fair retelling wherever possible.

You know the old saying , ‘ history is a fable agreed upon ‘

It’s akin to religion

Google ‘1619 project’ to see what re-writing history in the US looks like.
Then Google 1619 project criticism to read about the blatant mistruths in it.
It is ideogical claptrap on steroids.
Holden
That’s really interesting. I didn’t say re-write. I talked about adding truth.
Charlie
The truth is subjective in many cases, particularly when pontificating about history. Each patriot, politician, terrorist and closet vigilante will make a case for their own agenda, particularly anything older than your parents. The truth is somewhere in between. History should be taken with a pinch of salt and a dose of common sense.

All retailers can open from today as more lockdown restrictions lifted in NI.
A lot of historical stuff being thrown and The Guardian these days about their founder, John Edward Taylor, who made his money in the cotton trade. They appear to have supported the pro slave confederates during the American civil war?

there will be mass flagellations for everyone who has wears a cotton t-shirt or jeans.

AC/DC is in the wash – Springsteen, born to run today..

Well this one is interesting because The Guardian is cheer leading all this stuff and there was their founder up to his neck in it.
I am waiting for them to go after the Carry On films myself.

When and where is Eamon Ryan’s lynching to take place?
millie von strumpet
You mean you weren’t invited?
GiggidyGoo
I think they’re trying to make it a double-lynching. Hazel Chu wrote the ‘n’ word in the facebook musings at one stage, and now is vehemently backing up Ryan.
