Hands Off Seán

The statue in Fairview Park of former Chief of Staff of the IRA Seán Russell, who died on a German U-Boat in 1940

““We have a few of our own statues we may need to take down. There is a statue in Fairview Park in Dublin of an Irish republican man who was also a Nazi collaborator… I think any statues that come down should come down legally… let’s not engage in violence.”

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar yesterday.

Meanwhile

Via Irish Socialist Republicans:

‘Seán Russell was not a Nazi. Those that describe him as such do so to attack the Republican Movement. Calls to remove the 1940s IRA Monument in Fairview Park must be seen in the context of the Free State’s War On Republicanism and the ongoing Counter Revolution to suppress the All Ireland Republic.

Anti Imperialist Action have established a daily watch on the Russell Statue and will defend it against any attack. We will not stand by while the Free State attempts to attack the Republican Movement or mislead the Irish People with a Revisionist version of history.

We send a very clear message to the Free State and anti republican elements that would attack the 1940s IRA Monument as an attack on Republicanism today,

Hands off Seán Russell!

Fight!

whats the statue hidden behind bushes beside the Natural History Museum??
Some old English dude on a horse, i believe it used to be in Phoenix park and after multiple attempt to behead and blow him up they tucked him away on the leinster lawn. And planted a bush around him. incognito, like.

Prince Albert is in the bushes at Leinster house also. Untroubled despite his wife’s statue having been exiled to Sydney.
      Poetic, that.

The statue of Vic is in Sydney, alright. The plaque says it is a gift from Dublin. I tell Aussies that the Irish didn’t want it. I know things have changed when some Aussie states get renamed and the Aussie flag gets changed

God I really thought something genuinely serious like Covid-19 would put paid to this stupid poo.

Wonder could the city council extend the height of the railings around these four heros. To keep them safe, like.

          But that’s how it works.
One person/group suggests something; it gets discussed – everyone gets a say; a decision is made.

Leo is suggesting that the statue may need to be taken down… but specifically says that should happen legally – i.e. due process – discuss it and make an informed decision.

“The bombing campaign which began in 1939 was the ‘most disastrous thing that could have happened’, he declared, and so contrary to Irish interests that it could only have been work of British agents.”

        Said Sean Lemass in private.

        So there’s that….

        1. Cian

What? So Seán Russell was a British spy?
The ‘RA heads are protecting a statue of a British agent. Oooh, the irony.

Paul Donnelly , Sinn Fein ran Leo into 2nd place by a whopping 4,000 votes in GE months ago; – Leo , on the band wagon again.

Where are all the Shinner bots at?

Remember a vote for SF/IRA is a vote for Nazis

Its not like “Mary” from the north can actually string a sentence or argument together,it’s the low intelligence thats so disappointing ,but I blame the brits for that. The weird sexual obsession with young people in wheelchairs the unhealthy attraction and constant references to ‘kneecappings’ and disabled people,Mary your one sick puppy.

In the great mans own words….
“Russell told one German official: ‘I am not a Nazi. I’m not even pro-German. I am an Irishman fighting for the independence of Ireland. The British have been our enemies for hundreds of years. They are the enemy of Germany today. If it suits Germany to give us help to achieve independence, I am willing to accept it, but no more, and there must be no strings attached’ (Irish Times, 6 June 1958).”

Rest in peace Sean your were one mad bas…

        1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

So you weren’t fond of the kneecappings, you’d prefer to put them straight to an unmarked grave?

          1. Johnny

-each to their own ‘Mary from the north” are you disabled yourself then or is it just your a ‘devotee’ ?
-the pubic education system up North has really gone to the dogs, ya sick puppy.

“If you don’t know, a (disability) devotee is someone who identifies as having a sexual attraction to disability – someone who finds the kinds of bodily difference that impairment can invoke sexually appealing, titillating and desirable.”

          2. Johnny

quelle surprise enter stage left another devotee who also just happens be from the north and has on numerous occasions spread hatred and division..what a coincidence :)

  5. jamesjoist

Was Russell not captured in Spain where he went to fight on the Republican side in the Spanish civil war . Handed over to the Nazi’s who tried to inveigle him to raise an Irish Republican brigade to fight against the British ?

  6. Lilly

Jeez look what PBP has started. That’s the last time Boyd Barrett gets the whiff of a vote from me.
