Some Irish schools do provide food though. Mainly the DEIS scoileanna I think but I could be wrong.
With the schools closed food parcels were being delivered to families of students on an opt in basis. Long before Marcus Rashford started, there was a small campaign to have the deliveries continued during the summer but the department ruled it out as they don’t normally fund the service to the schools during the summer holidays. Perhaps the British government being shamed into a U-turn will inspire people in Ireland to pick up the campaign again and, if so, I would be all for it. The ongoing government formation situation may be a stumbling block but we still have a Minister for Education and a Minister for Children so they could take action before moving on.

My young one goes to a school that provides meals. There is a menu of healthy foods, like multi grain rolls, pasta, fruit salads and yogurts, along with fruit and rice cakes etc. It’s an excellent system. We choose a menu for her using an online system, which can be changed if required.
The school offered every parent the option to continue taking these meals if needed during lockdown. It’s a brilliant system, and it ensures that every child gets a healthy meal regardless of their background or situation at home.

fair play millie and RB, i didn’t know they did – it’s a seriously important initiative. i did some teaching years ago in a VEC school and they ran a breakfast club for the kids. for the 70 or 80 euro per week it cost to run it, it’s the best value for money you’ll get anywhere. it really is a no-brainer, we should have a school meals programme in every school.

I am NOT a health care professional, really dont have much interest in this area but will copy/paste or link to some the better investigative journalism done in this area.
So basically you have NO inspections and visitors banned allowing the homes to operate without any outside supervision,this set of conditions resulted in the worst outcomes for residents and patients.
“I think having more eyes on what’s happening is really important,” Grabowski said.
Last month, the Health and Human Services’ watchdog agency announced plans to review the pace of inspections in nursing homes and barriers to completing them — referring to such checks as a “fundamental safeguard to ensure that nursing home residents are safe and receive high-quality care.”

Cian-I went trouble of posting a link to a deep dive into NY/NJ care homes, I have already pointed out i have zero no expertise in this area,i don’t even like visiting hospitals or nursing homes-i design and build indoor farms FFS !
One fund i was working with wanted make a big play and do what’s called a ‘roll up’ of existing facilities into a larger group then exit via a IPO.
It appalled me how they are run-in the states there is little or no money housing then, the juice is in the haircuts,meds-they were ripping off the families by charging them outrageous amounts for the extras,say like even a trip to the shops…it revolted me and i got removed form that fund-never visited one again.
What i’m trying do here is a contrast between NY/NJ and Ireland,both made mistakes,I’m interested in the investigations and yes the media reporting.
…from above-ALL homes that were to take covid patients should have had initial inspections and follow up ones are per head Medicare in USA or NO funds !

irish schools don’t provide meals.
Some Irish schools do provide food though. Mainly the DEIS scoileanna I think but I could be wrong.
With the schools closed food parcels were being delivered to families of students on an opt in basis. Long before Marcus Rashford started, there was a small campaign to have the deliveries continued during the summer but the department ruled it out as they don’t normally fund the service to the schools during the summer holidays. Perhaps the British government being shamed into a U-turn will inspire people in Ireland to pick up the campaign again and, if so, I would be all for it. The ongoing government formation situation may be a stumbling block but we still have a Minister for Education and a Minister for Children so they could take action before moving on.

Unusually for you O’Bertie Begorrah.
My young one goes to a school that provides meals. There is a menu of healthy foods, like multi grain rolls, pasta, fruit salads and yogurts, along with fruit and rice cakes etc. It’s an excellent system. We choose a menu for her using an online system, which can be changed if required.
The school offered every parent the option to continue taking these meals if needed during lockdown. It’s a brilliant system, and it ensures that every child gets a healthy meal regardless of their background or situation at home.
fair play millie and RB, i didn’t know they did – it’s a seriously important initiative. i did some teaching years ago in a VEC school and they ran a breakfast club for the kids. for the 70 or 80 euro per week it cost to run it, it’s the best value for money you’ll get anywhere. it really is a no-brainer, we should have a school meals programme in every school.

If the HSE said “don’t go too near people or spend too long talking to them” it would technically be correct but not very useful – what is “too near” or “too long”.

The US had plateaued and is not bending or turning the curve,there is no second wave, we still in the first.There has been some reporting on the ‘care homes’ or nursing home in NY and NJ-its still early and no real investigations have been concluded but some haver been announced.
The state govt’s have come in for considerable criticism for not doing in person inspections while banning visitors, the lack of inspections have been blamed on no PPP etc.The outcomes for residents of homes subject to in person state inspections are much greater than those that used ‘tech’ (video) to conduct inspections.
I am NOT a health care professional, really dont have much interest in this area but will copy/paste or link to some the better investigative journalism done in this area.
So basically you have NO inspections and visitors banned allowing the homes to operate without any outside supervision,this set of conditions resulted in the worst outcomes for residents and patients.

Cian-I went trouble of posting a link to a deep dive into NY/NJ care homes, I have already pointed out i have zero no expertise in this area,i don’t even like visiting hospitals or nursing homes-i design and build indoor farms FFS !
One fund i was working with wanted make a big play and do what’s called a ‘roll up’ of existing facilities into a larger group then exit via a IPO.
It appalled me how they are run-in the states there is little or no money housing then, the juice is in the haircuts,meds-they were ripping off the families by charging them outrageous amounts for the extras,say like even a trip to the shops…it revolted me and i got removed form that fund-never visited one again.
What i’m trying do here is a contrast between NY/NJ and Ireland,both made mistakes,I’m interested in the investigations and yes the media reporting.
