nominally a good idea but think this will also contribute to the awful bottlenecking of traffic you get around d’olier st/college green. need to have some joined up thinking on this

Might also get the finger out and fix the potholes and sunken manholes along there.

yeah, fupp all point in cycle lanes when you’re liable to disappear into a crater once you rejoin the road

dame st is among the worst for them

Corpo are playing a blinder getting ped & cycle measures introduced while they have the cover to do so.
They’re playing fast and loose, but there’ll never be another opportunity for experimentation like this.
Hope the momentum can be maintained!

      +1

Hopefully they get enough done that it reaches a critical mass point, and driving through the city center just becomes unmanageable. Then it’d make an easy push for full pedestrianization.

That’s likely to be the unstated secret agenda, yes, but these measures must be counterbalanced with park & ride (inc. park and ride a bike) on the edges of the city.
        And MetroLink.

They are making a bad congestion issue worse for everyone.
The Corpo are not playing a blinder, they are playing like willfully blind idiots rushing things with the usual wee wee poor design that will result in serious accidents and definitely deteriorates the urban environment for all city dwellers.

      Not worse for everyone.
You’ll have to give examples to the changes you don’t like, but in my own community they’ve
      * made it faster and safer to walk across busy junctions (https://twitter.com/Phizzfest/status/1247534412499046401)
      * introduced segregated cycle lanes which were here-to-fore treated like parking spaces (https://twitter.com/DubCityCouncil/status/1274981455408570368)
The congestion resulting does not discommode the people walking and cycling about their business, and will encourage many out of their cars.

A touch off topic, but a no-brainer for cycle lanes would be to remove the ones where you have worse right-of-way, like those from Donnybrook to Stillorgan, where you have to give way to every little side street when you’re on the cycle path, but you don’t when you’re on the carriageway.
