Irish Examiner splitting the infinitive to smithereens in their banner headline. Quality print journalism and no doubt.

The English speaking world may be divided into 1 – those who neither know nor care what a split infinitive is; 2 – those who do not know, but care very much; 3 – those who know and condemn; 4 – those who know and approve; and 5 – those who know and distinguish.

Those who neither know nor care are the vast majority and are a happy folk, to be envied by most of the minority classes.

I luckily do know what a split infinitive is but i could hardly care less about the issue

Hidden away among all the economic data this week is the IMF prediction that Blighty will have a higher GDP growth of 6.3% than the Euro area (6.0%) in 2021.
Although to be fair Mystic Meg has a better track record of predictions than the IMF.
Still, it’s nice to know.A strong Blighty is good news for Irish exports.

heh heh heh × half the story

you’ve omitted the bit where the IMF says the UK economy is getting dry humped in 2020 to the tune of a 10.2% contraction – with an only partial recovery of 6.3% in 2021

UK output wont return to feb 2020 levels until 2026

      doh

      1. Charger Salmons

        Poor Brother.
Omits to mention that the IMF predicts the entire Eurozone economy is getting dry-humped by 10.2% in 2020.
France’s economy will fall by 12.5%, Italy 12.8 %, even Germany drops by 7.8%.
        Misses the #despitebrexit point entirely.
        Whoosh ….

        1. Brother Barnabas

not to worry, the EU stimulus package will have things back up and running by end 2021 at the latest

billions upon billions of free cash – will be like the time charger downed the entire carton of viagra

that’ll see the UK economy… oh wait, what?

          #despitebrexit heh heh heh

if the rallying in italian bond yields is any indication, markets seem fairly convinced

wont be long before Britain’s looking to join the EU, eh!?

“We believe [sterling] is in the process of evolving into a currency that resembles the underlying reality of the British economy: small and shrinking with a growing dual deficit problem similar to more liquid [emerging market] currencies,” the Bank of America analysts wrote.

      Some more good news.

” Dublin is the second most popular city in Europe for fast-growing software companies expanding outside the US, a new report shows. ”

But, of course, it’s all relative.

” However, it lags far behind London, which is where some 60 per cent of companies first land and where 31 per cent of their eventual workforce is located. ”

      Heh x #despitebrexit.

Obligatory masks on public transport is a great step but who is going to enforce it on trains? Haven’t seen a ticket inspector since February. Besides, I can’t see those guys approaching the hordes of teens boarding the Northern commuter trains that I’m seeing every day. The inspectors also avoid certain other members of society that ride the train, can’t see that changing for this.

    1. scottser

are they going to install mask vending machines at every station, luas and bus stop?

Most Irish people think a press is what everyone else in the world calls a cupboard.

It’s also a little known fact that Nigel Farage is younger than Brad Pitt.
In this instance Brad would be known as Pitt The Elder.
            I very thang you.

So 13 years ago “Grace”is awarded 6.3 million for failures of the state and in 2020 a file is with the DoPP? Slow wheel of justice is rusty, groaning and disintegrating.

        1. Cian

Yes they have in certain high profile cases. (And this is wrong: “Justice delayed is justice denied” )

But this may be a perception bias – cases that are settled quickly aren’t news; whereas a case that isn’t settled appears again and again.

The poor girl in a “wretched” state was frail , dirty, unkempt, ill health due to poor diet was rescued in 2009 from that hellhole. I stand corrected — it took 8 years to get to Court after that —and 11 years for a file to DoPP. Thank you, CIan!

        1. GiggidyGoo

Kate -the timeline is a lot longer than that for her to be rescued.

As previously revealed by the Irish Examiner, in early 1996, it was initially decided to remove Grace from the foster home. That decision was overturned after the foster father in the family at the centre of the allegations, and another individual, wrote to the then health ministers Michael Noonan and Austin Currie.

Terrifying! I thought we had 20 years before things got disastrous. Time to start the land grab in Canada, Siberia, North Europe, and other regions that are high above sea level.

That means all of that real estate wealth near New York, London and Tokyo will be worthless in 15 years time. This catastrophe will cause the greatest shift in human habitation the world has ever seen!

Just Google ” We have … left to save the planet ” and you’ll see a tsunami of different numbers.

….this caught may eye from a few days ago in Indo.

‘THE Central Bank of Ireland has given the green light for an Irish domiciled investment fund that is seeking to raise up to €150m to back companies in the legal medicinal cannabis industry.”

It interests me from a regulatory perspective, you need a special license in Irl to import cannabis, its basically still illegal to possess it-so how is the Irish central bank going ‘regulate’ a fund investing in whats essentially illegal in Ireland?

        I know, that’s the point.
All the umbrage about a £900,000 vanity project paint job by Boris.
If you don’t want to appear in the WINKY WOO index I’d be happy to lay some truly staggering figures about Macron’s private air force on you.

Seriously charger I really don’t follow it,NYT/WaPo/LaTimes have shrunk their London desks as the UK’s power and influence has declined-i don’t really watch TV or Cable-so no idea if networks carry any UK news.

I did read this about the UK and have say was impressed…nicely done and buried hydroxy for good too-wow.

…the United Kingdom’s Randomised Evaluation of Covid-19 Therapy (Recovery) Trial, took just three months to go from spinning up a brand-new kind of drug trial to changing global medical practice..
