Stop packing!
This afternoon.

The 27-member bloc is expected to give outline approval to leisure or business travel from tomorrow to 14 countries beyond its borders when they vote on the list, the diplomats said.
The countries are Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay, they said.
Russia and Brazil, along with the United States, are among countries that do not make the initial “safe list”.
The vote is aimed at supporting the EU travel industry and tourist destinations, particularly countries in southern Europe hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Russia, Brazil and USA.
Not political at all.
US reported not on EU ‘safe’ travel list (RTÉ)
Reuters
You get that Russia, Brazil, and the US are just 3 of the countries not on the list? That only 14 countries total are on the list?
But not China. Funny that.
Are China among the 14?
‘China would also be provisionally approved, although travel would only open up if Chinese authorities also allowed in EU visitors.’
So, that’s a “no”?
ETA: Also, aside from “politics,” might there be any other reason why the EU would be more willing to allow travellers from China to enter, rather than from Russia, the US, or Brazil?
So the top three countries in the world for Covid infections are in the list of 14, but China, in 22nd place, isn’t? What’s odd about that?
You….believe China?
Well, even if the figures are fudged and suspected cases are in detention camps or something instead – they definitely wouldn’t be allowed travel
Does anyone know do you have to quarantine, etc if you visit NI from the Republic (or vice versa)?
There is no quarantine required for cross-border travel, in either direction, between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Thanks John. I’m off to Belfast so!
Bring us back a surprise!
Haven’t had a stick of rock in years!
That’s your own personal business Millie – I’ll be back next week with Nordie Taytos and copies of the Andersonstown News for everyone
A garden in Ladybrook Park is lovely right now- slightly south of Andy Road.
Lets swap lat longs?
Russia, Brazil, and USA also have Autocrats and Autocratic wannabees as leaders. Two of them are anti-Science morons, can’t say that about Putin though. Their records on containing covid 19 especially Trumps is appalling! They’re also willing to pour old people (their base) into a giant incinerator in their thousands.
Satire is dead.
Sorry Junkface, “Bodger” reckons it’s politics.
That’s cause it is
So do you think, aside from “politics,” that there might be any other reason why the EU would be more willing to allow travellers from China to enter, rather than from Russia, the US, or Brazil?
If its not politics then why isn’t it more specific to the locations of the re-surging outbreaks
like say sorry no Tour bus loads of Arrivals from Boston or New York or Sao Paulo
But Hawaii and Alaska Cead Mile Failte lads
Then you have Australia, Morocco and Algeria there, back up into the Red of Rising Cases
But being included in the EU + 14
No mention of Paraguay yet its re-surge is hotter and redder than any other South American Country, why is that lads, huh?
And then there’s Russia
Shur who the eff knows – even the Russians themselves ffs
But the EU and ‘Merica seem to think they do
How would you know if someone travelling from the US was from one of the hotspots you’ve named? Is there a new Massachusetts passport i don’t know about?
How would you know if someone travelling from the US was from one of the hotspots you’ve named?
Ah sure I dunno
maybe Departure Gate / Arrivals checks
Flight numbers
entry cards completed etc
if a lad wants to drive from New York to say Alaska to get a flight here
to spend two weeks in isolation
followed by a 90 min visit to a pub
then feck
Maybe the virus should let him off
“Sure it’ll be grand,” essentially.
An how is that any different to how the EU came up with that list of 14 Countries
What’s that got to do with whether or not it makes sense to admit US travelers?
There is some politics at play, especially with China. They let the virus loose on the entire world because they were very busy trying to cover it up, typical Communist Party move. Their biggest fear is criticism of any kind. They can’t bear it, they go mental! Such snowflakes the CCP.
But Trump has made the virus a political issue, come on! He has made public safety and wearing/not wearing masks a game for idiots, which they have in millions. People actually drank bleach and disinfectant after Trumps senile ramblings, dear God. Bolsanaro has done the same with masks
The culture of “face” as it’s called is integral to society and extremely important, from where you sit in an office to getting and receiving gifts according to your status, one must not loose face if you like, it’s why most Chinese tourists like to speed around getting a photo infront of each monument, it’s not out of interest the visit but about building “face” , increase in this will help with job promotion or marriage, it’s not a concept we have here and goes a little way to explaining the attitude to critique.
Yes that’s part of the problem they have taking criticism in their culture, but its also a communism thing. Stalin locked up or kidnapped every critic he could find! And when they couldn’t find more critics raising their voices, they just framed innocent people, especially teachers and doctors. So I think it is primarily a communist culture thing. Historically that is definitely evident.
Ah lads, we are not allowed to travel to the US, see the CDC site..

With specific exceptions, foreign nationals who have been in any of the following countries during the past 14 days may not enter the United States. For a full list of exceptions, please refer to the relevant proclamations in the links below.’
Ireland is on the list
Shure they’re all at it
People actually drank bleach and disinfectant after Trumps senile ramblings – They did?
Yes! The Poison control helpline across the USA was hopping in the week after Trump’s ramblings, especially in the south. Many people were hospitalised for drinking bleach, ethanol, and disinfectant. The mind boggles
You don’t want to know what they were doing with the UV lamps.
I see some glaring omissions from the list of approved countries. Some of the countries that recorded the greatest success in containing the virus, such as Vietnam, Singapore and Taiwan are absent. If I wanted to travel abroad, at this point, I’d feel safer flying to Taiwan than to Australia, for example.
That is interesting all right.
Very true. Taiwan did an amazing job, likewise Vietnam, but there are strange choices in those lists. Turkey has a better record currently, than Germany with 197,000 cases but only 5000 dead! I think with someone like Erdogan removing human rights more and more, that they are using this politically to force change. Erdogan is a nasty nut case, I don’t blame them there, but the innocent tourism workers suffer most.
Turkey and Germany are neck-and-neck on cases; but Germany is averaging <500 new cases per day versus 1,400 new cases in Turkey.
Looks like the US is in internal lockdown.
* New York requires visitors from eight more states to self-quarantine
* The widened order now applies to 16 states – nearly half the country’s population – as the US sees a surge in cases

So no, I don’t think it is just “politics” for that EU block on travel from the US.
-self its voluntary like living.
I’m devastated. I was all set to go to Leicester. Hate that Boris Johnson.
