Thank you Tony Holohan for looking after the country. I wish you and your family all the best during this difficult, heartbreaking time for you.

It can’t have been easy doing his job and caring for a sick partner.
He certainly never expected the pandemic to affect Ireland as badly as it did when back in early March he predicted there would only be the occasional isolated case.

he’s busy concocting a response to the chinese conundrum; how to show a stiff upper lip over hong kong while knowing that they desperately need a trade deal with them. all the while the chinese are showing two fingers to the courts in northern ireland over their ugly wall.

An ugly wall in Northern Ireland ! I’m flabbergasted, who would have thought you would ever see that .

    1. Charger Salmons

It’s the fact that he’s only just realised this that makes it all the more tragic.
The rock he’s been living under for the past three months obviously had no internet connection.

you say that like it’s a bad thing, up a mountain in a cabin with plenty of supplies, beautiful views, good books and thick socks and poor internet, I’d pay for that

I believe it’s a pretty huge rock in the Southern Hemisphere, you know where the Brits wiped out most of the indigenous population…

Some strong early showing on the WINKY-WOO inferiority complex indicator this morning.
We’ve already had Hong Kong protests, historical insights about Australia and some Instagram video I can’t be bothered to watch posted by someone clearly not intelligent enough to have his own opinions.
Once that other meerkat comes along with his gripes about the German suspect in the Madeleine McCann case we’ll have a full roster of Richards.

      Yes.

As did Canada, UK and a number of other countries with high deaths in care homes.

    3. Junkface

I think its also because in many countries the nursing homes for elderly are underfunded, have a lack of PPE, staff are under trained, safety standards and practice are all below par. Even though some of these homes can be very expensive. They are run to maximize profit for the owners. My grandmother was in a home like this before she died, our family regularly caught staff taking short cuts on instructions from management. This is what happens when you turn care for elderly into a ‘for profit’ model. They were just not prepared for a Pandemic.

      1. Cian

You are correct. However nobody was prepared for a pandemic (except possibly countries hit by SARS). Nobody had enough PPE and when we realised we needed more PPE there was a world-wide shortage.

For Sharon (who can obviously afford to use the mostly private airport named after the star of The Quite Man)

Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant poo to me.. see the guy was pure southern racist, yeah.. motherfup him and John Wayne.. you’ve got to fight the power that be..

    1. dav

I had never heard that about Elvis and find it interesting since, at that time, his music would not have been considered “white”. Is he a racist because he was from the south or because there is evidence of him being racist?

      1. Vanessanelle

        I didn’t either

Don’t know why, but I developed something that tells me his early sound and dance stuff grew out of his comradeship with the people he grew up with
They were all are durt poor, white and black, poverty didn’t discriminate

Trailers and Shacks weren’t segregated either

    2. fez

Elvis was not racist, you’ve misquoted the lyric for a start, and later on Chuck D went on to say this:

“As a musicologist — and I consider myself one — there was always a great deal of respect for Elvis, especially during his Sun sessions. As a black people, we all knew that,” the rapper said.
“My whole thing was the one-sidedness — like, Elvis’ icon status in America made it like nobody else counted. … My heroes came from someone else. My heroes came before him. My heroes were probably his heroes. As far as Elvis being ‘The King,’ I couldn’t buy that”

    3. Help

Elvis also like all pop stars could not keep his pecker in
As for Sharon like all groupies in drug fueled days racism would be nothing compared to the excesses of a rock stars back stage shiniagons

Data Murphy. Kicked out his EU job by mutual consent. Let’s see the attempt at re-invention.

  4. GiggidyGoo

It’ll be interesting the approach to bed capacity in the hospitals this winter. Will Stephen Donnelly step up to the plate, and be proven a bottle of air?

  5. GiggidyGoo

Michael Moynihan gave it to Michilín “with both barrels” – his own words. Surely calls for an interview with David McCullagh. Yes? Or maybe with Sarah McInerney. Yes?

Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.
        Allen Ginsberg,
sure isn’t your own company the best company

      2. GiggidyGoo

Good man Rob. Didn’t think you’d have the guts to comment on the subject after yesterday’s showcase of your talents.
        I was correct.

  6. GiggidyGoo

Roderic laying low. Must be no funds in the party to hire Prone.
More images appearing. One of a tweet he supposedly shared showing people simulating eating (cannibalism) children. And this is our minister with responsibility for children? No thanks.

Is there ever a situation in political life here of a TD doing the right thing and resigning?

This isn’t going away. The media will eventually have to address it. It’s all over all types of boards/blogs. Mumsnet especially.

    Twitter’s having fun.

Ghislaine Maxwell didn’t kill herself 3 days from now.

Condolences to her family on her upcoming suicide.

Prince Andrew last seen entering the Ecuadorian Embassy with several large suitcases..

It was tragic. Four shots to the back of the head.

Better hope that prison doesn’t have a swimming pool.

Well as the post doesn’t mention Ireland I put it down as a solid 0/10.
I’m not quite sure you understand the complex, inner workings of the Digital Inferiority Complex Klaxon but do keep on trying.
It’s a pleasure to have another Richard joining in the fun.
        Marvellous.

I’ll have you know there’s nothing wonky about my wankywometer.

    Hello everyone!
U.S. Embassy Dublin has a long tradition of 4th of July Independence Day celebrations in Phoenix Park. In April we cancelled this year’s event out of an abundance of caution given the COVID-19 pandemic. However, on July 4th we will relight our fireworks tradition.

Is Ryan protesting this and still anti-American,now that he’s a serious man or wants us to think he is,are his days protesting in a cheap anorak and Lidl kicks over, now that he’s on better money ?

Fight the power, sure Ryan until they pay you enough.

I miss those days out. Was a guest at a good few of those over the years. A good show, a nice house with decent grub and wine.

      1. Johnny

..before my time but urban legend has it that a team Clydesdales delivered a ice cold barrel of bud at one, legendary day out:)

        1. Janet, dreams of big guns

it would have to be ice cold so your mouth is too numb to taste it ;)

Dan Rooney was a great host he owned a big NFL team, knew how have a party.Ryan went all ‘Jill Stein’ and was promoting anti American propaganda,I would not be surprised if state dept views him with distain, one the many reasons SF was right to be a bit leery,is he a security risk, can he be trusted with all his anti American propaganda ?
