The Quality Of Mersey

The votes are in.

Last week, following my beloved Liverpool FC becoming champions of England after 30 years  and with a €25 Golden Discs voucher as the goal, I asked you for your favourite song by a band or singer from Liverpool.

You answered in your tens.

But there could be only one winner.

Third Place:

Heart As Big As Liverpool by The Mighty Wah

Catherine Vaughan writes:

One of my favourite Liverpudlians (Pete Wylie). I might normally go for Story Of The Blues, but today, it can only be this…

Runner up:

A Day In The Life by The Beatles

YupYup writes:

THE greatest masterpiece has to be the best of Liverpool surely? The epic nature, the switches and ups and downs which lead to the final crescendo and the famous final chords are rather appropriate for all the Liverpool fans breathing one massive 30 year sigh of relief.

Winner:

There She Goes by The La’s

Bertie Blenkinsop writes:

I loved this song since before Liverpool won the League last time and I still love every single note of it, a lost genius Lee Mavers

Thanks all.

He is but even a priceless Persian rug has one flaw :)

of the 3 everton fans that I know personally – each was pleased to see liverpool win the league. and same for last year’s CL. I suspect theres a hidden grá for one another beneath the rivalry.

Seconded on that, you can’t like football and dislike Coleman or Ancelotti.

Always loved this song, even before it became the theme to the much underrated Mike Myers classic “So I Married an Axe Murderer”

Great winner, and nice to see The Mighty Wah get a look in. Story of the Blues is another great song.

    1. Bodger

Dav, I’m doing the Teeling comp and the other one (which I have momentarily forgotten) today. Sorry. Very busy here the past while.
