Niall Collins, one of those caught up in “votegate” last year, is rewarded with a junior ministry.
Lisa Chambers, also involved in the same, was rewarded with the party’s leader of the Seanad role.
Timmy Dooley, another one, given a Seanad seat by the Taoiseach.

  2. Slightly Bemused

I have to chuckle at these titles. I used have to formally get in touch with some (particularly those in Foreign Affairs and Overseas Development Aid. When addressing any formal communication to the relevant department, even though it was dealt with by a member of the staff, you had to address it to the relevant Junior Minister, spelled out in full.
Some, like Dara Calleary’s new one,can take up a quarter of a page! It was not terribly great fun :-(

    1. Praetorian.

The bould Franko had You Tube take down the video clip of him assaulting the elderley gentleman in Roscommon…didn’t like it much.

Poor Jack Chambers is continuously the subject of quite personal attacks. Anyone know why?

“Why are you opposed to allow the people decide whether to repeal the 8th or not?”

      “Because I’m pro-life.”

Fair enough. Now that you all put it like that, the case is indeed damning. How dare he stand up for himself. Another way to look at it is that its simple bullying, like that poor Fine Gael lad who went to a conference.

  4. Vanessanelle

Thrilled to have a Minister responsible for Credit Unions

But did it have to be Jack Chambers

Hardly springs to mind as someone who has some shared Interests and relationship with the Cooperative Movement

Of the list that got the call up Patrick Donovan springs to mind as a natural, having been a Jnr in Finance last time, or one of the Greens

      1. Vanessanelle

A scheme that is funded by the Credit Unions
        And is currently over subscribed

But don’t let that get in the way of any of the Central Bank, Bankers Lobby and FG spin

I’m a little miffed that the politicians whom I voted #1 & #2 back in Feb – and who both had excellent chances of becoming serious players in Government – both abdicated the power vested in them.
The SDs making no effort to effect change by being in power.
And Neasa Hourigan rebelling against her own PfG. She could have been a real use to her constituency in office.

  6. Harry Robertson

The constant realignment of departments is totally frustrating. They must get through one realignment, then anew government and then realigned again. No wonder some think the public service is broke. Staff are having to do day jobs (you know, serving the public) and then have to put up with realignment running in parallel.

All of which suggests that these Ministers have no real function or power. However dicking around with Department titles allows the Government to shoehorn in the maximum number snouts at the trough.
