A very sad loss to the world of music.

The musical score to The Mission will always be my favourite amongst his works.

    Fare well, Ennio!

Sorry, it’s happened me often enough. But your sentiment was bang on, a fantastic piece of music.

I went to see him in concert in Dublin…. It was magnificent. Will never forget it. An absolute musical genius. If I am feeling down I would put on “The Mission” to relax. May he rest in peace.

Legend is a good term for him. Who can think of those movies without the soundtracks and how many others can prompt the range of memories.

Gotta be Sean Sean from Fistful of Dynamite for me.

(pub scene filmed in Toner’s btw)

      True point.

I made a comment on a Nick’s Voucher entry that sometimes hearing a song set against a particularly good film scene often changed my mind about the song.

In Ennio Morricone’s case, it was very much the opposite. His scores always added grandeur to the scene, sometimes turning silly, trite or simply dull scenes into classics.

      RIP Maestro

A sad loss to the film score world, what’ll we do when Thomas Newman goes, there will be no legends left.

We still have Danny Elfman. A different style of music, but in my opinion a great nonetheless.

Yeah it’s rare to hear soundtracks now that stand out, so many are composed using stock sound effects /vst plugins and suchlike, it weakens the creative approach although I’m sure it is much cheaper to produce

Sad day, I love his music since I was a kid. I still remember my parents’ box set of westerns o.s.t vinyls that I would listen all the time. I remember his last concert at the O2 Arena. It was great to see/listen to him live!
For me what will stay is: Sergio Leone close-up of Charles Bronson, his harmonica in one hand and to his lips with Ennio Morricone’ theme in Once upon a time in the West. But there are so many other, pure genius. But, today it has to be Ennio Morricone with Joan Baez “Here’s to you” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZXwJcc1u-I
