Let’s Do Some Shots

at

Last night.

The Tonight Show on VMT.

GP, broadcaster and columnist, Dr Nina Byrnes calls for a mass vaccination drive to prevent the flu and Covid-19  ‘peaking together” in a deadly embrace.

Peaking together is lot of fun for the microbes, of course, but leaves us vulnerable to two lurgies at once.

Thanks, Doc.

the flu and Covid-19 ‘peaking together” in a deadly embrace.

Like this year? Except CoVid-19 appeared to cure the flu in about a week so what is the problem?

      1. sidhe

        this is ridiculous

please outline what ‘narrative’ this is and what exactly your problem is with promoting a full uptake of the flu vaccine by the public where possible – something that the HSE has been doing for years now anyway, certainly long before coronavirus

          1. Bodger

SOQ was questioning the official narrative and sort of making fun of it (I’d keep a close on him) so I put him straight. I will not risk the safety of our readers with his reckless so-called humour.

          2. sidhe

            thanks for that detailed explanation.
I know I feel so reassured now that you a better understanding of the situation than all of these scientists and medical professionals, you know, and that you’re not just talking out of your botty bumkins

          3. Bodger

sidhe, I find laughter is not only the best medicine, as they say, but can even cure fear porn addiction (awaiting clinical trials and peer-to-peer review).

+1 Bodge…. And the darker the humour the better, I’ve found, particularly if the humour is targeting one’s own darker life experiences :)

          5. Hector Rameriz

Dont be asking Bodger to explain himself from my viewing of his comments he doesn’t… ever, trumplike…

‘I don’t know if it’s true, but I’m only asking the question’

        1. Bodger

I was upbraiding SOQ for his cheek questioning the experts. Don’t worry, I’ve got this. He’s asking to be cancelled at this stage.

          1. sidhe

gorging yourself on youtube vids and studies and papers does not really make for a sound base to mount any kind of alternative argument though, which is precisely what hrh soq is doing. he is neither a scientist or a medical professional of any kind and therefore lacks the background or basic educational tools required for an adequate understanding of the subject.

its a joke that you are not only supportive of this, but dismiss people who take issue with his stance as ‘cancel culture’

at least do your readers the credit of outlining your editorial stance clearly

it’s more important to Bodger that they can maintain plausible deniability about this, than be explicit around what their position is.

it’s the same with climate change. more important to be cute and circumspect and coolly cynical.

          3. Bodger

We don’t share the same views at all here (‘sheet) as I hope the posts reflect. I am in fact the odd kid.

          4. Commenter #1

But still, the views of the publisher of the site would be interesting to know, wouldn’t they?

          5. realPolithicks

“at least do your readers the credit of outlining your editorial stance clearly”

@sidhe It depends on what day of the week it is.

        1. ReproBertie

So the lockdown and the hand washing and the cough and sneeze etiquette worked for flu too? Who’d have guessed?

        2. Barry the Hatchet

Flu season arrived early in 2019 and was (in early January) predicted by the HSE to be over by early February. But please, don’t let facts get in your way.

          1. ReproBertie

            Well there’s this from mid-January:
HSE assistant national director of public health and child health, Dr Kevin Kelleher, said it appears that the “worst is over”.
However, while there was “clear evidence” that the flu season had peaked last month, he said, it could start to increase again.
“While most of Europe is experiencing the same sort of flu viruses as we are. In North America, their flu is very different. When that happened in the past it has on occasion caused a blip in our flu season and it always seems to come at the end,” he said at the HSE’s weekly winter plan update.
“But on the whole, the evidence would suggest that we are in the second half of the flu season,” he added.

    1. Barry the Hatchet

Why it’s almost like locking down the entire population for weeks had an impact on all highly transmissible viruses!

  2. broadbag

What about the super flu which will evolve to counter this mass vaccination, huh? SuperFlu is 2022’s Covid, get ready!

  3. goldenbrown

    here’s one for yiz

imagine Moderna or one of the other pharma announces eureka they’ve cracked it, wahey a vaccine in the bag after just 9 months development (instead of the usual 10 years it takes)

Govt’s immediately purchase the wonder cure and mandate that it be taken along with the flu shot

Will you be queueing to get it inta ya?

    1. Commenter #1

Has this hypothetical vaccine been investigated by the appropriate regulatory agencies and found to be appropriate, safe, and beneficial? Has it been approved by said independent bodies for circulation? What does the WHO/FDA/EMA think?

      1. Cian

Lets assume that if a vaccine were developed that due to the nature of COVID the normal testing process was fast-tracked. So WHO/FDA/EMA hadn’t found followed the usual process for it to be “appropriate, safe, and beneficial”… but equally it hadn’t been found to cause any major issues. (remember the Swine Flu vaccine?)

        1. Commenter #1

I would be surprised if any of those federal agencies would throw the required resources behind a vaccine that had been shown to only have no “major issues” associated with it. More likely to roll out a vaccine that actually works.

    2. Vanessanelle

Luke O’Neill was on the telly last night
      the other one

and said there are – trying to remember now, like over 170 different labs working on a Vaccination
and that for the first time ever Big Pharma have come together – to work together on a single purpose, yeah I know, me too

But he was very clear and promising to be honest
one of them is bound to crack it
      he says

I see over on the British Medical Journal they allow for nuanced discussion between medical experts on the subject of Covid-19 and vaccines :

    https://www.bmj.com/content/369/bmj.m2184/rr-4

    Quote:
“It has recently come to light that the countries with the highest Covid-19 death rates also have the highest rates of influenza vaccine uptake among the elderly..

..This correlation is consistent with case-control studies and one randomized trial associating flu shots with non-influenza virus infections/NIRVs, including coronaviruses. (Cowling et al, Clin Infect Dis 2012;54:1778. Kelly et al, Pediatr Inf Dis J 2011;30:107. Wolff, Vaccine 2020;38:350) There are plausible immune mechanisms, including virus interference, indicating that this could be a causal association.”

Surely it’s reasonable to conclude that this correlation requires proper, high-level scientific investigation?

    1. Cian

Possibly in countries without high level of flu shots… the oldies all died of the ‘flu before March.
If the countries with high level of flu shots… the oldies survived the ‘flu but succumbed to COVID.

    2. Commenter #1

Sure, why not? I’d also point out that the individual you quote there states that “Danuta Skowronski and her Canadian colleagues recently found that influenza vaccine had “no effect on coronavirus or other NIRV risk.” Furthermore, they re-analyzed Wolff’s study [the one that found the flu vaccine/coronavirus correlation] and identified a methodological problem to account for the unexpected 36% increase in risk of coronavirus infection that he found associated with influenza vaccine.”

So even potential skeptics like the individual you quote allow for the fact that there might be problems with these correlations.

      1. f_lawless

That’s true, but when referencing the work of Skowronski and her colleagues he makes the point that “Crucially, they provide no specific data for the 65+ age group.”

        1. Commenter #1

it’s maybe safe to assume that the methodological problem identified applies to the data relating to over 65s, no?

          1. f_lawless

Sorry my mistake – when he says “Crucially, they provide no specific data for the 65+ age group.” it’s in direct reference to those who re-analysed Wolff’s study and by extension the work of Skowronski and her colleagues.

          2. f_lawless

Actually, disregard my last comment he is in fact directly referring to Skowronski et al- I blame it on not having had my lunch yet ;)

But back to your point – I’m not sure I agree that it’s maybe safe to assume that the methodological problem identified by Skowronski applies to the data relating to over 65s given that the opinion of the medical expert, in this case, is that the lack of specific data on the over 65s is a “crucial” omission.

Can someone point this “expert” to the older folks in Italy who got the “regular” flu vaccine this year , there was a study done in Italy that shows those who received the vaccine were more susceptible to covid 19, a quick look and you will find the study online.
Meanwhile they still use PCR testing which picks up dead RNA and RNA with similar structures as false positives, it’s amplifying signals, useful in some contexts where the testing procedure has been tested unlike the covid 19 mania where it’s been a free pass for big pharma to break every rule in the book.

I’m not sure if the HIQA report was covered on here where it looks at death rates via the use of RIP.ie, official death certs need to be processed hence the use of RIP.ie, from 2015 onward the estimations for deaths in Ireland are given ,in every year we under estimate deaths by over 1000 people, in all cases since 2015 the deaths are more or less the same, we have “miscalculated “covid 19 deaths by 51%,back pocket tony was using deaths for number shock that were not from covid 19 as suspected all along, the report does not cover the the exact numbers who died in nursing homes after this gross miscalculation.
We now are increasing testing using the PCR method which amplifies RNA ,it also amplifies dead RNA giving false positives at times, the media and selective experts are jumping all over the rise in cases but mentions little that deaths are currently not correlating with case increase relative to the last few months where we had “death spikes” , keep in mind many of these death spikes are being revised downward as death certs come back.
Governments need to take back full control of their health response systems instead of copy and pasting from WHO, the freeman of Dublin Holohan who locks down the public ironically was regurgitating from the WHO’s instructions , this is made clear in the HIQA report, it’s clear as day the WHO have conflicts of interest with their funding model with some of its biggest contributors being big pharma vaccine producers and Bill Gates, to believe the care about the electorate of countries is naive to say the least.
