Your constant comparisons of the modern day Ireland and England soccer teams stinks of your insecurities. England has so many more players, much better training facilities and so much more investment that it’s about as realistic a comparison as the current Dublin and London GAA teams. The main difference, of course, being that despite the massive weight of advantage on England’s side, Ireland can hold their own against England and have been known to come out on top, something a London side would never manage against Dublin.
Yes, qualification is a rare and wonderful thing for an Ireland team, but an rud is annamh is iontach, and it’s that very rarity that makes a night like Stuttgart 88 such a euphoric moment and something you, despite England’s qualification record, will never understand or experience. The magazine is published by the conservative Manhattan Institute for Policy Research.
We’ve really gone through the looking-glass on this one. Front page of the online Irish Times, currently:
– a headline that says non-wearers of masks on public transport will face fines and jail sentences
– main photo: front of a bus reads : “Wear a Face Cover”; through the window, a woman sits alone on a bus wearing a mask.
“’The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said the wearing of masks on public transport is a sign of solidarity to your friends and family, your health service and their staff who continue to be at the frontline of this crisis and solidarity to your country as we all continue in our efforts to suppress this disease.”
Continue to be at the front line of this crisis? Deaths continue to be at virtually zero. Ordering the nation to wear masks now is like polishing the knobs on the stable door long after the horse has bolted.
We’re now in the damage control phase of the narrative. As the lockdown is eased, the government will now claim that, due to mask wearing, we’ve managed to transition without the virus taking hold again. Avoiding an “emperor has no clothes” moment is a priority. Don’t want to public to start questioning whether the lockdown was ever necessary in the first place.
To reinforce this Eamon Ryan says “there had generally speaking been a good level of compliance on public transport with the wearing of mask” which is simply not true – from what I’ve observed myself and the experience of those I’ve spoken to. Easily less than half the people on transport have been wearing masks throughout this affair to date.

There have been 21 World Cups and 15 European Championships. England have won World Cup, no other appearance. Never even made it to European Final. That’s very good old boy for a country of circa 60 million. On the other hand Germany have won 4 World Cups, runners up 4 other times, won EC 3 times, runners up 3 more times. Italy won WC 4 times, runners up 2 times, won EC once, runner up twice. France WC wins 2, runners up 1, EC winners 2, runners up 1. Spain, ….I think you get the picture old boy. You’ve obviously not read old boy’s (Charger Salmon) posts. I said in a previous post Jack was a fine Englishman and was a credit to his country. Charger is a clown, bleating on about how superior England is to the rest of the world, never speaks negatively about Boris, etc. It smacks so much of an inferiority complex he has it’s not funny! Poor old boy.
RIP Tapan Ghosh.
I hope Nigel bought the Sunday Times….
