How many news articles, opinion pieces, or editorials in the Dublin-based media addressed the anti-Catholic, anti-Nationalist & anti-Irish 11th Night bonfires that took place in the 6C at the weekend?

Anyone?

Bonfire banners ‘sectarian and offensive’, says Foster (BBC)

I wonder which of them pulled the short straw and had to order all the tricolours and Irish Republic flags? It would be interesting to know where they’re buying them from whether it’s a localish shop or online.

If we (Both Nationalist & Unionist) can’t get over this crap, maybe we should give up and close the border. I don’t like people who throw pipe-bombs at children going to school. (Anyone who wants to join us, is a 100% welcome.)

    3. harrold

And we actually think peace has a chance in northern Ireland with this deep rooted hatred of each other

I just hope no one tries to join the north with the republic as I do not fancy the cancer working its way down here

I reckon ten generations and we might even see some hope

We need a wall built to keep them out

This ugliness needs more exposure, it’s not a quaint expression of cultural differences as the Irish Times or BBC NI would have us believe, having stood nearby a few marches – the music is not melodic, the drumming is not for musical consumption, it is designed to antagonise anyone within earshot, nothing more – this would be seen as abhorrent anywhere else in Europe, imagine this vitriol was directed at any other nationality or group of people – there would be marches in the streets of all the major cities protesting the sheer obnoxiousness of it, England has had a taste of this with the recent “protecting statues” brigade, it was mocked and seen as an affront to decency. Those normally bellowing for condemnation seem relatively silent today.

    1. Scundered

More exposure is what they want though, it encourages them to be more daring each year, see what traction it gets. So whilst it is a problem, giving them more media might simply be playing into their hands.

      1. Kolmo

The more exposure they receive the more that they show themselves up to be unreasonable and insanely bigoted, the flags and drums are a false display of strength and confidence in their position – when in reality, it is the exact opposite.
Drive through any non-unionist majority towns in the north and there are few flags of any description, just like any other town or village in Ireland

    2. Toby

The Irish media need to get over their hatred of Chrstians. All over the world Christians are getting slaughtered and discriminated against. (At least in Northern Ireland they fought back and won). But not a peep out of Irish media. Palestine and Rohingya are worthy of our concern, but so are Christians.

      1. harrold

Toby protestants and Catholics are Christians
Northern Ireland is just a bigoted place where the only tradition is to get under the nose of the opposition

Both are as bad as each other
And both are sharing power and forced to sit in the same room

What’s needed is direct rule from Westminster a wall and just keep them out of the republic

Its just blinds bigoted hatred both sides

God love us if the republic had to pay part of the policing

        1. goldenbrown

yup. if ever there was a case for a wall….

centuries deep bred sectarianism that won’t be solved with political arrangements, money or normal policing. these people HATE each other and ENJOY hating each other.

personally I’m glad we get to see this display once a year so we can observe what’s under that thin veneer, remind ourselves.

a 32 counties is a SF unicorn and if a vote ever transpires somehow in my lifetime I hope I’m allowed to bring a big red marker along to the polling station for emphasis.

          1. Ben Madigan

You’re completely wrong. The majority of people in the north live and work alongside each other, and have social and personal relationships with each other regardless of what ‘tradition’ they are from. A significant number of the next generation will come from so-called ‘mixed’ backgrounds or not identify with any religion. The segregated education system will start to erode with the loss of interest in religion. Will some cling on to sectarian bigotry? Of course. But change is happening.
An all-island nation will come about not in the next 5-10 years but likely in the next 20-25. It will be something different however like a federal state of 4 provinces. This 26 county republic is just a stepping stone and will become a footnote in history. Those who started this process a hundred years ago never intended this state would be permanent! And you can underline that with your big red marker.

          2. bisted

…good analysis…I broadly agree but I feel brexit will provide the impetus to accelerate matters…a federal solution seems most likely…

  2. baz

humored to see that the Orange is still on the tricolors ready for lighting.

a form of soft self immolation?

  3. GiggidyGoo

Very few articles in the MSM alright. Sure it’s not the type of news that we want (our betters dictate that) Same as Cowen (until it couldn’t be ignored) or O’Gorman/Tatchell (until that too couldn’t be ignored).
The Main Stream Media aren’t mainstream anymore. The journalism is being done on twitter, facebook, blogs, and the Mddia are just followers that reprint. Of course, reprint with a spin.
Hence the attempt to stifle online debate.

    1. Rob_G

It does not surprise me in the least that you get you news exclusively from blogs and outraged FB posts.

      – the 12th of July has been reported on extensively in newspapers and television here for decades

  4. GiggidyGoo

Good man Rob. My personal troll. Beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice.

So, point me to the reports for the 2020 marches. In fact, google ‘Orange Marches 2020’ and let me know the results.

    1. Rob_G

GG – I think you have delusions of grandeur: the fact that post your nonsense on almost every thread means that one can’t but come across you.

“In fact, google ‘Orange Marches 2020’ and let me know the results.”

      – maybe you’re not getting any results because that’s not what people call it… I googled ’12 july northern ireland’ and found many articles, including one from the BBC, whom I suppose would fall under the banner (no pun intended) of “MSM”, where Arlene Foster issued a statement criticising the practice.

      1. GiggidyGoo

BBC? Good man Rob. Irelands MSM? Now, thats delusional.
Scroll up to the item and read the part ‘How many news articles, opinion pieces, or editorials in the Dublin-based media addressed the anti-Catholic, anti-Nationalist & anti-Irish 11th Night bonfires that took place in the 6C at the weekend?’
Are you related to the A Thingy? Seems like it. Same level of competence in understanding whats been talked about, same level of intelligence displayed in posts, same type of trolling and stalking. An identical twin? Arlene just loves the type. No wonder you quoted her .

Funny that its my comment that brings you out. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

        1. Rob_G

I managed to find this article, even using your unusually-phrased search term –
          https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/0712/1152773-twelfth-bonfires-orange-order/

          – perhaps your googling skills aren’t quite up to scratch?

“Arlene just loves the type” – well, it’s hardly my fault that the mainstream media went to the most mainstream voice of unionism to get a quote on one of the most widely-reported on events that takes place at this time of year.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Good man A Rob. You found one article in the Dublin media after two days searching. An RTE article that wasn’t in the search engine until 19 hours ago.
Did you read my original post, you know the one where I wrote ‘Very few…’?
Or the part where I wrote ‘reprint with a spin…’?
So, are you really that slow?
The comment in the article mentions the Dublin media – so referring to the BBC is pretty stupid isn’t it!
            You’re off your trolly

        2. GiggidyGoo

Funny how you think that me pointing out to you the article, and the post I made – all of which are written above in black and white – is shifting goalposts.

About the height of your capability to understand what’s written alright.
          Your exit phrase no doubt.

    2. theo kretschmar schuldorff

GiggidyGoo, the Orange Lodges didn’t march on July 12th, because it was a Sunday.
They marched on the 13th, yesterday, so most coverage wouldn’t yet have been published by the time you were taking exception to the fact.

  5. Charger Salmons

Perhaps it’s the one time in the year when the Irish media feel guilty about their non-stop anti-Protestant, anti-DLP, anti-British coverage and this eases their conscience.
Does anyone really care about a few bonfires these days ?
    You tell me.

We can never allow Northern Ireland back until the cancer of loyalism is removed. They are a danger to all of us. Just the English, they cant take a beating, and boy did they get bet. Now Northern Ireland loyalists have some of the poorest, unhealthiest and uneducated people in the world. Let England keep paying for them.

    1. Shitferbrains

That’s cheered me up no end. For a while there I thought they’d all gone soft.

  7. Madam X

An Mary Lou talks about Insh unity. As if these artists will be pet poodles and no body trying to build bridges since President Mary . Another government failure on the way

  8. SOQ

The loyalists are not anti-Nationalist – they are nationalist- in the same way was SF are nationalist- if you wave a national flag then you are a nationalist.

It brings me back to my days of gay Belfast- I am not a sectarian, I’ll shag anyone.

    RIP { James Young }

    1. Scundered

That does raise an interesting point when comparing the feelings of my friends, if they see houses with tricolours flying, it’s treated as proud to be Irish and all good, but when they see union jacks it’s seen as just anti Irish and intimidating/scary, largely,

It is all tribalism and if anything proves they all are more similar than not.

  9. Shitferbrains

That’s cheered me up no end. For a while there I thought they’d all gone soft. And btw Broadsheet do you ever have a look at the timelines of some of those whose tweets you publish ? Yer wan is pure racist.

  10. Charger Salmons

The reality is,of course, that these morons are as far removed from British people as most of the posters on here.
Even including Repro not allowed to have any fun with his name.
They really are more yours than ours.

    1. Scundered

There is no such thing as nationality really, just humans, under the illusion of imaginary borders, thinking they are different from each other whilst everyone has been shagging each other for centuries

    2. Toby

The reality is these represent the filthy core of British oppression colonialism. Why are they even here in the first place? One can hear the anguish of the lost in their tortured singing of their hateful songs. They have no joy, they have a jealous, vindictive and mean God and they are hated universally. And then they are ignored by their Masters in Westminster who were the source of all colonisation. God love them.

  11. d

isnt there an incitement to hatred act? if they were burning india or pakistan flags they organisers would be publicly shamed and end up in jail.

    1. Rob_G

While I don’t agree with burning this or any other flag, it’s not illegal (and shouldn’t be illegal) to burn an article of your own private property; people have a right to self-expression and protest (regardless of how idiotic a form this self-expression is given).

      1. GiggidyGoo

        So you reckon:

The property pictured above is private property?

I suppose I shouldn’t encroach on your right to self-expression.

        1. Rob_G

The flags pictured – presumably, yes.

You understand that ‘private property’ covers more than ‘land’, yes?

          1. GiggidyGoo

Burning your own private property, on what’s not private property is illegal. Look up the Waste + Pollution laws.
You understand that the location of the burning, and the pollution from smoke off a flag is illegal. Yes?

          2. Rob_G

            Yes.

None of which relates to the fact that it is the flag of a neighbouring nation being destroyed; a person can destroy flags to their bitter hearts’ content and generally not run afoul of any hate legislation; this is the point that I was making, addressing d’s point.

I’m not really sure of the point you are making; I have no doubt that giant bonfires run afoul of all sorts of disposal of waste legislation.

          3. GiggidyGoo

You must be very, very tired after shifting those goalposts – a lot tireder that I am this morning, not having moved any goalposts.

Or maybe it’s the long jump competition you’re entering.

In your replies you’ve gone from the legalities of burning private property on what’s not private property to introducing into your posts hate legislation (last post).

I don’t think you know what you’re trying to say yourself at this stage.

          4. Rob_G

Listen: it’s alright if you don’t understand the issue being discussed; you don’t have to reply to every single comment on every single thread.

          5. GiggidyGoo

You write ‘….you don’t have to reply to every single comment on every single thread.’

Well, that’s good coming from my personal stalker/troll. Beetlejuice x 3

When you do decide what issue you think you’re discussing, be sure to let us know.

          6. Rob_G

I did (desecration of flags). But unfortunately you weren’t able to understand it. You should probably stop waving your lack of comprehension around like a flag for all to see; its very unedifying.
