And the misery seems widespread in Ireland.

” The British pub chain has one pub in Dublin city centre – the Silver Penny on Abbey Street – and last year acquired HQ Bar and Restaurant at Grand Canal Dock.

It also runs pubs in Dun Laoghaire, Blackrock, Blanchardstown, Swords, Cork and Carlow, and has sites in Waterford and Galway, which are due to be redeveloped. ”

        Cheer up matey.
Always look on the bright side of life.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
        Don’t grumble, give a whistle

        * whistles *

if paradise to you means cheap beer and overtime
          home truths are easily missed
          something every football fan knows
it only takes five fingers to form a fist.

All right Mr Inferiority Complex, your need to talk in this way is quite interesting. You said recently you like Kayleigh McEnany. Yea she fits your bill quite nicely, cherry picking and telling blatant lies e.g. she is going on about the US having the lowest mortality rate from the virus in the world, way lower than countries in Europe, the US has the fourth highest rate in the world!
As regards you, would you like to comment on yet another shocking week of crime in your dear England? You disgracefully blamed it on black immigrants in one of your posts, would you like to comment on what had happened in Doncaster recently so old boy?
And what about your pal Bozo’s disgraceful comments on carer homes, this from a man as you put it “with the human touch” Come on old boy stop cherry picking and answer some basic questions.

      2. Charlie

True. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bar with less atmosphere. Having said that, almost every bar in the UK is full of misery and neon slot machines.

        1. Charger Salmons

What’s this – you’ve been in every single Wetherspoons ?
I know I like a gargle or two but I reckon you need immediate help for your problem squire.

          Heh x 900

          1. Joe F

Yea old boy just as I thought no answer to some simple questions. Well I’ll just keep doing my man marking job then.

          2. Charlie

There’s a typically English decor template used for every Weatherspoons. It’s referred to as ‘Cheap n miserable’.

          3. Charger Salmons

            The Spoons employs 43,000 people.
You’ll always find the occasional moaning slacker in a company that size.
I’ve no doubt you’re the type of person to whine about any great business success story such as the fabulous Ryanair.
Fact is Timbo is opening up and running successful Irish pubs just as the industry here thinks they’ll be closing down at a rapid rate of knots.

          4. Charlie

“Occasional moaning slacker” Ahaaa…the entire nation moans endlessly and feeds upon it. The whining, screaming, depressing daily diet of Eastenders, Coronation St etc is exactly what the regular Englander craves and the media know their audience.
Tommy, it’s ingrained within the culture of the most miserable nation on Earth.

          5. SOQ

Charger Salmons character is by one of those ‘Left wing’ comics who never took a mortgage because they can afford not to do so.

They will never be homeless nor anywhere near it.

            Ins’t that right Niall ?

    1. Brother Barnabas

some of charger’s loyal readers may be wondering what’s brought on this deviation from all-things-Brexit-and-Johnson-related to musings on the price of a pint

truth, though, it’s not a deviation at all

      as has been noted:

“football, beer, and above all gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. to keep them in control was not difficult”

it’s not hard to pull the wool over the little englanders’ eyes

      1. Charger Salmons

What Brother fails to mention is that Ireland was part of Orwell’s Oceania continent envisaged in 1984.
Perhaps that’s why Wetherspoons is expanding its empire here but, naturally, still charging higher prices than on the mainland.
Timbo didn’t get to be a multi-millionaire by accident …

        1. Brother Barnabas

          not so, charger

in fact, he very explicitly acknowledged the fundamental differences between us. as an example, on celtic nationalism:

“Its motive force is a belief in the past and future greatness of the Celtic peoples… the Celt is spiritually superior to the Saxon — simpler, more creative, less vulgar, less snobbish, etc. — but the usual power hunger is there under the surface”

more creative, less vulgar, less snobbish…. he knew his stuff did old Eric

          1. Charger Salmons

            Dearie me Brother.
You’re quoting selectively again and leaving out the juicy bits.
            Here ya go.

“Its motive force is a belief in the past and future greatness of the Celtic peoples, and it has a strong tinge of racialism. The Celt is supposed to be spiritually superior to the Saxon — simpler, more creative, less vulgar, less snobbish, etc. — but the usual power hunger is there under the surface. One symptom of it is the delusion that Eire, Scotland or even Wales could preserve its independence unaided and owes nothing to British protection.”

For that sorry attempt to hide from the truth you get today’s first appearance in the WINKY-WOOometer.

            Heh x 10/10.

+ 1 regarding this observation in that article: “Ireland is uniquely vulnerable to all of this [woke cultural influence] as a nation without a national economic base, wholly reliant on the whim and will of aggressively ideological multinationals temporarily parked there for tax purposes.”
Ireland’s industrial revolution from the game-changing 1960s was predominantly FDI as the eminently successful Industrial Development Authority invited foreign industrialists to set up in Eire. Indigenous industries (mostly semi-state enterprises) like the Sugar Company with its 4 factories, Irish shipping, the Ford motor factory in Cork, shoe manufacturers and other enterprises were wound down, partly due to EEC single market competition.
We still have some indigenous industries derived from agriculture, but US and other companies have been buying substantial shares, which may affect future decisions about ‘downsizing’ measures. Do twentysomethings in Denmark, Norway or the Netherlands demonstrate an aptitude for thinking independently of thought centres like California and New York?

      1. Charger Salmons

I fear your questions are a tad complex for most of the commentators on here.
They’ve grown up only knowing one thing and that’s to feel comfortable in being told what to do.
Between them the EU and American multi-nationals have them in a vice-like grip.

        1. Nigel

We wish the UK the very best of luck in their future dealings with the US and China, especially given the legendary deal-making skills of the Johnson Gang. Seriously. God save them and keep them.

          1. Nigel

*Trump and Johnson and The State Council Of The People’s Republic Of China have our backs*
**cuts nose off to show the EU what for**

I know a lad living down there, he said it’s been kids up til now….

          1. Rob_G

counter-productive, surely – I imagine it could only mean more scrutiny and garda activity being brought to the area.

  1. Dr.Fart

the ads on Broadsheet are weird today, advertising J1 holidays to san fran? eh, theres something goin on at the moment.. lil pandemic. might hamper the experience.

    1. Janet, dreams of big guns

I think it depends on your own interests/ browser history etc,
      Volkswagen here apparently

        1. Cú Chulainn

Ah the good old days when I too was offered Russian brides.. it’s women’s car insurance for me these days..

        2. Rob_G

I’m getting ones for Mensa membership, executive recruitment and… haberdashers(?)

          1. Charger Salmons

If you really knew my wife you’d know she’s baaaaaad in the boudoir …
            Mustn’t complain.

      1. Dr.Fart

yea that’s what i thought. but i think broadsheet is diff, remember on the run up to the vote on repealing the 8th, and they were showing loads of pro-life ads, and we all saw it, and BS said they’d no idea and set about changing it. thats when i thought it wasnt based on ur searchings when on this site. also, im long past going on J1’s, certainly havent been googling them, or san fran.

  2. Lilly

Amazed to see bride wearing a mask. Given that they impede only about 2% of airflow, what’s the point.

      1. Janet, dreams of big guns

a shotgun pointed at the spine is more effective, just ask me Da, hahahah

    1. Joe F

Just wondering old boy, if England is such a great place according to you, and Ireland has all these problems you keep bleating on about, why are you living in Ireland so old boy?

      1. dav

it’s a troll, every response to said trolling adds an extra stain for his mumsy to scrub out before the next undie wash.

        1. f_lawless

He may do trolling in the main, but this new information from BBC’s medical correspondent is nothing to do with trolling. On the contrary it has extremely serious implications on a worldwide scale and should be further investigated.

          1. Nigel

Johnson flubbed the UK pandemic response so now to pwn the Irish libs you have to lament lots of Irish people not dying. You’ll give yourself whiplash one of these days.

          2. Charger Salmons

But you live in a country which has decreed a €9 meal with a pint will help prevent the spread of a virulent virus more than if you just drank a pint on its own.
Even someone as humourless and po-faced as you must find that amusing.
            Nah,what am I even thinking ?

          3. Nigel

Be sure to keep your mask on while you eat. Everything just goes straight through those masks.

Unfortunately he’s not a rich white farmer with family money in Ireland cultivating ‘medical’ weed in commercial grade greenhouses, just another poor Africa America railroaded by the white suprematist judicial system, in the states.

This harrowing story which is now getting national attention first appeared here:

“A Disabled Black Veteran with Prescribed Medical Marijuana in His Car Played Air Guitar while Pumping Gas in Alabama. Now He’s Going to Prison.”

    https://www.alabamaappleseed.org/marijuana-reform/thrown-away/

It got picked up and is now getting lots coverage inc NYT etc-non paywall here.

“2016 arrest for marijuana that has turned into a 60-month sentence in an Alabama penitentiary for a disabled veteran from Arizona is drawing national attention.”

No bail for Mad Max-Barry White Cancelled oh no…sorry Bari Weiss letter of resignation,a tad upset at getting canceled at the new york times….

“Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times. But Twitter has become its ultimate editor. As the ethics and mores of that platform have become those of the paper, the paper itself has increasingly become a kind of performance space. Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history.’

Remember when there was a browser plug in to block Leather Jacket Guy’s posts. Is there one for Charger? All he does is hijack threads with his trolling.
