Don’t Come Around Here No More

Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald

This morning.

On RTÉ Radio One’s Today with Sarah McInerney.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has said that tourists should be told “don’t come this season” and that anyone arriving in the country should face mandatory 14-day quarantine.

The island of Ireland cannot be left exposed and it was not enough to accept “on a wing and prayer” that people were self-quarantining.

Ms McDonald said that experts need to come up with alternatives and she accepted that tests produced false negatives. “I was that person myself,” she said.

For epidemiological purposes the island of Ireland was a single unit, she said.

She’s right but I’m not privy to how that would work. That is how do you prevent people coming down from the North? That is folks that aren’t based there.

100% correct. NZ showed how to do it. Aus was on the way to elimination until they stuffed it up by not employing the right people to enforce the 14 day quarantine in hotels. Ireland should have done it back in March. Another reason for a united Ireland.

SF’s new ‘epidemiological’ mandate for unification.

While SF may have an agenda at play, it’s hardly a secret now is it? They spent thirty odd years trying to police the border in Ireland and if they couldn’t do it then they sure as hell won’t be able to do it now.

To this day, no one has ever explained why when at CoVid-19 peak, the airports were left wide open. Asking people not to travel into the country and enforced quarantine hardly requires a PhD in epidemiology- it is bog basic common sense.

(for me) that’s like the episode of Fr. Ted with Fr. Jessop the sarcastic priest

whilst I concur with your funereal sarcasm I find myself agreeing with your tourist observation :)

Why this needs to be spelt out is beyond me, what is the point of a lockdown if people can arrive from some of the worst infected areas and then travel the country
