Not content with pigeons, rats, holly Willoughby’s under garments, ghosts, I see The Star is taking a pop at the Aliens now..

    1. Rob_G

Imagine going all the way through journalism school or getting your M.A. in English or whatever and having to write that poo…

      1. bisted

…not like the good old days when the papers were always full of political intrigue and proper headlines like: GOTCHA!

      2. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Sitting at your desk, weeping as you type.
Like I do, posting here. But mine are tears of pure joy.

      3. The Old Boy

I always felt sorry for the chaps who had been lured to Fleet Street from the provinces as bright-eyed, talented young hacks, developed an untenable fondness for pub opening times and ended up sacked from their generous expense accounts and eking out a living scribbling for Jackie and Just Seventeen.

        1. :-Joe

lol.. You’ve painted a rich, vividly sad and tragically realistic scenario right there…
          – The opposite multiple reality of many a moderate success story…

It makes you think. How desperate really has journalism become, partticularly in this recent climate of chaos and rapid change?

It’s a cruel dark world out there and don’t let anyone tell you different…

          :-J – https://www.privacytools.io

        2. Rob_G

The days of generous expense accounts are long behind us – unless you’re Robert Fisk or something.

    2. Junkface

The Star is so classy! Ha ha

Those Alien drawings are so 90’s man, come on! Its like Men in Black never happened.

Ghislaine? The Mail is on first-name terms with suspects in child-prostitution cases…

        1. Redundant Proofreaders Society

I think you mean the victims were children which were trafficked for sex. Very different from prostitution.

          1. :-Joe

+ 100% – It’s nowhere near prostitution.. that was one of the main complaints by the victims in how they were portrayed in the media.

            It’s Predation (Preying,Capturing,Exploiting,Victimising ).

Predation on minors / children, premeditated, deliberately calculated and intentionaly planned out.

Also the added factors of Grooming, Manipulating, Threatening, Abusing, Assaulting, Kidnapping, Enslaving..

Also the physical vs mental differences -(I’m sure there is more that can be added)

& to top it all off.. Trafficking.

Why is there a Trumpish graphic in you newspaper lineup today. It doesn’t seem to belong to a story or paper. I have a screenshot if you need it.

  4. Charger Salmons

Substitute New York Times with the Irish Times or The Guardian and see if you can spot the difference.
Left-wing and liberal used to equate with dissent from groupthink, questioning everything and the freedom of expression.
Now it’s just the Woke echo-chamber trying to shut down everything and anyone it doesn’t agree with.
    It is the new fascism.

Staff writer Bari Weiss resigns with a stinging letter to NYT publisher A.G. Sulzberger.
‘ Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times. But Twitter has become its ultimate editor.’
    https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter

    1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

It’s funny though. I’ve seen people with opposing beliefs quote-tweeting her letter as proof of how correct those beliefs are.

      1. Clampers Outside

That’s because the letter is so on the money even her opposition can see the truth in it.

          1. Clampers Outside

LOL, your narcissism is up to full today thinking that was about you.

Please read what I responded to….

            You’re some eejit!

            * guffaw *

    2. Junkface

I think another senior journalist besides Bari Weiss has also left the NYT. Things are developing in media

      1. Charger Salmons

Not a word about the subject matter. Merely justifying calling someone a Nazi.
Funnily enough the fact she is Jewish and a prominent supporter of Israel has been a regular feature in the online abuse she has received.
As we saw with Corbyn’s Labour party and other left-wing factions around the world virulent anti-semitism is never far from their surface.
        Some things don’t change.

        1. :-Joe

(My last post where I called you an alpha-prime eejit, a clown and ignorant repeatedly and more etc. disappeared for some reason?)

Anyway, in response to more of your ignorance, lies and smears…

It’s a proven fact only a liar or an eejit would deny at this point that Corbyn was usurped by a conspiracy within his own party over two elections together with the on-going but conveniently recent flaring, fake anti-semetism smear campaign they helped various forces to encourage..

The same kind of people, some blairite and many others that are loyal to the same Israeli statte lobbying that the tories have been corrupted by even more than they are by their own nature and culture(I know, is that even possible?) – Well, look up Peter Orban’s C4 Panorama Doco: Clear and categorical evidence on the whole affair and many years ago… for a start. Or look up the Al Jazeera investigative doco proving the lobbying and smear campaign by Israeli officials.

All this along with the majority of the media owned and run by billionaires favourable to the corrupt deals they can make with Bojo’s tory circus and nottomention the potential devestation for elites profit margins if Labour’s public first manifesto was enacted.
-You can argue all you want on the economics of every detail in it, good or bad but again, it’s another undeniable fact that led to the even “shocking to the frightened tories” landslide. A.k.a The establishment fear of the majority of people in britain getting a half-decent deal.

However bad or whatever you think of him as a politician or person, Corbyn had no chance from the start. The point is, that is the real truth and It is not disputed anymore, it is a matter of fact and not opinion or theory. – Unless you’ve never heard from a credible, trustworthy, reliable source of journalism in the past decade…

Also, you seem to have zero clues as to what so-called “left”, “left wing”, “leftist”, “progressive” political ideaology or true/ classical “liberalism” means nevermind “right” “right-wing” or true / classical “conservatism” on the other side of the spectrum. More nonsense.

Again smearing with your ignorance, It’s hilarious… because your warped opnions on this are so meaningless. Your like a pompous version of a flat-earth, moon landing denier.

Newsflash : weiss is not a credible, trustworthy source as a journalist and the NYT is a propaganda apparatus and nothing more than a corrupt state sponsoring rag.
          – If you knew anything about politics, journalism or the progressive, true/classical liberal “left” you would be hearing this loud and clear… Not your weak excuses and bs lies and smears of fake anti-semitism.

You should try to read and learn twice as much as you comment, two eyes one mouth etc. but keep doing your worst, repeating lies from your colonised island braincell..

The pride of little(intellect) brexit britain.

A Jewish Atheist. A person can be both things. I meant he is from a Jewish family, therefore hardly a Nazi. He hates Nazis and has said it so many times. Shouting Nazi at someone you disagree with, without any actual proof is another part of the woke Left problem.

          1. bisted

…I told a british soldier once that I was an atheist but he wanted to know if I was a protestant or catholic atheist…what he was trying to assess was which political tradition I came from… I’m not from a jewish tradition but I hate nazis, especially zionazis…

    3. Nigel

The right used to be seen as some sort of mature, dignified and intellectual political ethos for grown-ups. Now it’s the raving destructive unreality of Brexit and Donald Trump and propaganda trolls like yourself spinning and sneering on their behalf, the politics of getting away with things and having hysterical whinefests and meltdowns when they don’t. What exactly does the right bring to the table these days in terms of questioning and freedom of expression? Get brexit done? Make America great again? Liberals are the real fascists? Blacks are the real racists? T-shirt slogans, you love those. It’s devolved to utter rubbish and you know it. The politics of not wearing masks because ideologically they’re committed to hugely incompetent leaders. They only thing they’re good for is whining about the left while the authoritarian right smash every value, principle and sense of ethics they ever pretended to have in pursuit of power.

      1. Clampers Outside

Remind me again how many UK Labour voters who voted For Brexit….

        I’ll wait…

“Shorts-soiler”? Couldn’t that term apply to most any English national soccer team player when confronted by a penalty kick or an opportunity to reach a tournament final? Hehee..

      Oh dear David,
you might read this tomorrow while the Windies are handing your boys

She conveniently omitted some critical details about her toxic presence inside the paper, and may have staged her resignation to fuel her next career move.
You have again outed yourself as an alt right colonialist, Zionist and true blue bigot.
That the other alt right bigots on here are “plus oneing” you is hardly surprising,
given the amount of alt right propaganda and links published here almost on a daily basis.

Ahh, so you noticed my earlier reply to col. blowhard, igoramus was posted then disppeared too?.. Was it offensive? Do you have you got a copy?..

Ye, I usually assume it’s some glitch by me… but it happens now and again..
          – I may have said something offensive or in my experience, more likely implied something too controversially true for some sensitive minds..

Y’know like.. e.g. The fact that there is an extremely powerful, influencial and active Israeli lobby in britain in all levels of politics from youth(young conservatives) to the top. – It’s well documented and reported on by mainstream british journalism.. not just the victims of the disgusting fake “anti-semitic” smears.

Anyway, In this case, I’m not sure which to be fair?..

I think one of the moderator’s has it in their head that I am a conspiracy theorist or something similar..

A few of my posts get deleted on weekends despite being justifiable truth based in evidence and facts… or if not, it’s nothing unusual, I’m obviously joking about something etc.

Anyway good to know, I replied again above… .

          Ole, Ole, Ole.. We’re all part of Jack-y’s / now Kenny’s army…
          – A truly ordinary, decent, honest, Englishman and one of many british people you could get behind.. Ooh-er? -Nevermind the effective but alas, **** looking one-dimensional footy etc. we’re still trying to shake off..
          – I wonder what his thoughts were on Brexit and Corbyn’s progressive politics vs tory scum?..

-Hopefully this won’t get deleted too..?
Censorship is an awful state of affairs… The “F” word is a weak excuse..
          – It’s in the dictionary for F’s sake.

  5. scottser

so everything left-wing is bad now? is the idea that we are in any way equal now redundant? that we can hold things in common so abhorrent? most importantly, is the notion that we can stand together against injustice, corruption and greed so ridiculous and easily dismissed as ‘woke’? if so, then you are all screwed because first to go will the stuff those values made real; free or subsidised roads, schools, hospitals, parks, housing, streetlights, libraries etc. next will be your rights and freedoms in a race to the bottom where the world’s wealth is owned by a few.
but hey, at least no-one can call you a snowflake, right?

    1. scottser

in other news, apple now get to keep their tax. but hey, it’s only those wokeflakes who care about such matters, eh?

    2. Junkface

We can’t possibly go through this again. It was fully discussed in the current Top 2 discussed threads. These developments do not mean the left is being silenced, that would be wrong. Just that the woke nonsense, and cancel culture should be let go and we return to open debate, freedom of speech, tolerance of others opinions and no trying to bully and fire people and destroy their lives for minor mistakes. You know traditional democratic values. That’s all I am going to say. I’m out

      1. Nigel

You’re mad at people disagreeing with you, while the all-powerful on the right literally rewrite reality to suit their needs and no open debate will move them because they have turned trolling into a political tool. It’s utterly headwrecking that you think traditional democratic values are more threatened by disagreement, however deep, than by endless blocks of weaponised lies and disinformation bulldozing everything in their path.

        1. Junkface

I’ve already explained my position in detail in plain English in these comment sections. I said I’m out.
You’re not well Nigel. You need rest or a break from online activity.

          1. Nigel

No. You haven’t explained this one, staggering, extraordinary blind-spot. I cannot make sense of it, and none of you have actually justified it. You don’t have to if you don’t want to, but don’t pretend you have.

          2. Junkface

            You need help.

Everyday you fapp all over the comments section in what can only be described as some kind of manic activity.

          3. Nigel

And you claim to like free and open debate as the pillar of democracy or whatever. You don’t have to engage, you don’t even have to be civil, but if this is what you devolve to in defence of your position that the wokemonster is more of a threat than the right? Honestly? I’m not surprised the left is so weak in defence of its principles and beliefs while the right rages on, prepared to defend and promote the most terrifyingly stupid things to the death, usually of other people.

(And I’m not manic – I’m actually quite angry at how spineless you and others are being about this. Imagine Salmon hehing in your face for all eternity. That’s the future we can all expect.)

          4. Clampers Outside

            The closing bit in brackets…
            your imagination….
            your paranoid imagination…
about a random anonymous commenter on a small (sorry BS, www comparatively speaking) Irish blog.

            Meh.

          5. Nigel

From someone who thinks there’s a college course specifically designed to bring about the fall of western civilisation, this level of reading ability is unsurprising. Think of Salmon as a synecdoche for the current right, in terms of morals, philosophy, principles and ethos. Think of needing to have this explained to you as a humiliation. Reflect on the sheer shoddiness of your world view.

          6. Clampers Outside

It’s a base objective Critical Theory, simple as. Doesn’t matter a jot if you believe it or not. You could look it up, if you’re capable.

          7. Nigel

Clampers thinks democracy is more threatened by some college course than the right wing party in control of the US supressing votes in primarily minority areas. I swear they must love you over on the chan or the reddit or wherever it is you got red-pilled.

    3. SOQ

That is the whole point scottser- you won’t hear this crew talking about roads, schools, parks etc because those things do not matter to them.

In the main they are affluent brats running around being offended on behalf of minorities whom in turn, wish they would just pee off. It is not a coincidence that a lot of the anti woke is coming from gay men of course.

      1. Janet, dreams of big guns

I thought Scottser’s point was that the whole word left was becoming some kind of dirty word when it’s still an important opposition

        1. SOQ

Well when you see the behavior of the antifia crowd, is it any wonder? They are more like fascists than any other grouping on the political spectrum. And then the whole witch hunting of people who dare to have the wrong opinion- a complete own goal if ever there was one.

          1. sidhe

well when you see the behaviour of <> crowd, is it any wonder?

there will always be extremists, in any faction campaigning for change. that’s hardly unique to antifa.

          2. scottser

so, can we separate out the easily offended botty boopers from those with genuine left-wing, working class values? in the same way that we can recognise that not all capitalist conservatives have a grá for jackboots and concentration camps?
you’re all supposed to be intelligent commentators yet the conflation and construction of strawmen here is pretty staggering sometimes.

          3. Nigel

This is beyond ridiculous. This would be funny if it weren’t becoming so prevalent. It’s actually quite scary. Orwellian gets thrown around a lot but this is truly Orwellian. Are you an actual child?

More like fascists than the heavily armed Boogie Boys advocating for civil war? More like fascists than actual fascists Proud Boys who co-ordinate with local police to beat up and harass protestors? More like fascists than the wide network of white supremacists responsible for multiple muders, violence and acts of terrorism? More like fascists than actual Nazi group Atomwaffen who engage in terrorist activities? And note these actual fascists are supporters of Trump and given cover by him when he, like you, rails against antifa. More like fascists than all those anti-lockdown protestors that tooled up with heavy weaponry and stormed capital buildings? More like fascists than the anti-maskers of whom there are multiple reports of turning violent and abusive when asked to wear masks? More like fascists than the US police forces aassaulting and imprisoning journalists and peaceful protestors? Of whom there are hundreds of recorded acts of police brutality since the BLM protests began? More like fascists than Donald Trump who sent in heavily armed troops to clear out a peaceful protest in a park for a photo op designed to appeal to his religious fndamentalist base? More like fascist than his supporters who see him as some sort of divine messenger or avatar? Or hey, more fascists than the right wing regime in Poland that has created LGTBQ-free zones?

And if you really and truly want to know what a witchhunt s like maybe you should ask anyone who got on the wrong side of the online right. Or is this all cowardice on your part? I think it is fundemantally cowardice, because you really are too scared of the right to even acknowledge what they’re doing, blatantly, openly, with impunity. Instead it’s safer to pick the mythical ‘wokemonster.’ All that will do is disagree with you, and you can call it a witch-hunt.

        2. Vanessanelle

          +V Janie

However – there’s an awful lot to be said about the Cooperative Way

          All members are equal
Our Common Bond is that we are all Human Beings

And religion, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, means, politics, age, education level, livelihood and all the other spectrums we share the planet with
Are removed from the decision making

But just one step at a time
How about for the month of August, Broadsheet swap any mention of an organised religion from posts with ‘Sugar Sprinkles’ or ‘Fairy Dust’ or ‘Black Forest Gateaux’

          And watch what happens

          1. Clampers Outside

It would be great to see all those things removed from decision making, but you’re up against woke identity politics these days…

          2. Nigel

            No.
Though I think we need good politics because of those things, as a way of working together for the common good in spite of differences big and small, so excluding them somehow might be counter-productive.

          3. Nigel

If these things represent biases, does excluding them from politics also exclude the victims of these biases? Because that’s what Clamper’s response is about – erasing the difference between bias and the victims of bias.

          4. Clampers Outside

No it’s not, that’s just another “so what u r saying…” guff from you Nigel :)

          5. Vanessanelle

Remove any opportunity for personal Bias to nfluence

All walks of life are equal members
No politics, no religion, no preferential treatment and no inequality
            Zero tolerance

            Seriously lads,
Just even for one day. Block out any mention of a named religion
And see how it looks then

            All walks of life folks
            And the more the merrier

          6. Nigel

Getting mad at woke identity politics is getting mad at the victims of bias, Clampers.

V – since freedom of religion is a thing, you can’t exclude people based on their religion, and you can’t divide people from the things, like religion, that inform their views, and that includes biases. I wish it were so, but it ain’t. Politics should about ensuring equality despite biases, not about exclusion.

  6. Charger Salmons

It’s certainly a funny old world where a government would celebrate not wanting to get its hands on €13billion which would cover nearly half of the budget deficit of €30 billion this year to deal with the economic fallout from the Covid-19 crisis.

    1. Junkface

I’m sure that they really want it, but that if they took it the consequences would be very negative for US Tech companies operating in Ireland. It could lead to many of them leaving their favourite Tax loophole haven.

The problem really lies with corruption in the US Tax laws regarding loopholes for companies operating overseas.

  7. Junkface

I wonder will Ghislaine Maxwell name the Bill Clinton or other powerful politicians in this trial? Apparently it is quite possible. If she revealed a list of the powerful who may have took part in this awful abuse of teenage girls, with video proof, that would be explosive as a news story! It would further shake up US Politics and power structures.

  8. Charger Salmons

This from the ” you have to laugh ” files.
Liu Xiaoming is the Chinese ambassador to the UK.
He took to his official Twitter account to complain about Boris’ U-turn on Huawei saying ” It has become questionable whether the UK can provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from other countries. ”
    https://twitter.com/AmbLiuXiaoMing/status/1283090285174587394

    Twitter is banned in China.

    1. Junkface

All of the biggest Tech companies are banned in China. They just decided to copy them all and release their own knock offs. China complaining about fairness is laughable CCP propaganda rubbish.

      1. sidhe

knock offs? you’re right up to a point

however, some of the tech produced and in day-to-day use in China far outstrips some of what is used here in the west

          1. sidhe

the use of the WeChat platform is one I can think of to hand

it’s been in use for a good number of years in a way that we in the west are only beginning to incorporate

a social media platform, a messaging service, a means of paying your bills, even something as simple as paying for a taxi or splitting a meal, all on one app/platform. it’s an impressive use of technology and is widely accepted across China

          2. Clampers Outside

It’s a bit easier to incorporate all those without GDPR issues.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with TikTok now that they are based here… One to watch if you’ve interest in that kinda thing :)

          3. sidhe

a very good point. we have privacy protections and rights which the Chinese wouldn’t consider applying, and this makes the rolling out of such technologies much easier, and of course, the government is *always* watching

          4. Charger Salmons

Well there’s Brother Barnabas’ lady doll.
Obviously because it’s made in China the proportions are, ahem,on the less than generous size.
But it’s a perfect fit for him and still going strong after all these years.

          5. Junkface

“the use of the WeChat platform is one I can think of to hand”

I think they had something very similar to that in Japan first. I’d have to look into it and find the name of the app.

          6. sidhe

well, that doesn’t surprise me, to be fair. no one beats the Japanese in terms of innovation. they really are in a league of their own.

    1. Joe F

You’re very selective in your criticism old boy. I agree with you on China. However how about your pal Bozo and his record on crime? Carer homes? Doncaster? Come on old boy, you can do it.

          @Johnny

Hi, were you asking me if I would recommend Signal.org messenger as trustworthy?..
          – The short answer is yes, as close to 100% safe and trustworthy as possible and I can’t recommend it enough.

It’s the only mainstream messaging app you can trust not to be spying or capable of easily being hacked by the company that offers it or by other nefarious organisations or bad actors.

The more people use it the better the internet will be but more importantly, human rights in general.

Less access to your valuable personal and private data by greedy tech monopolies with corrupt business and financial models that cause a lot of damage to society. The standard of living, mental health and ultimately less of the usual propaganda and manipulation and who ends up in government… being some of the main factors for using it.

Your personal data may seem like nothing to you, but it is far more valuable than you could ever realise or predict… Even more so everyday, as technology advances and systems change going into the future.

Nigel will be in to defend the book and the pseudo-science of implicit bias testing* any minute now… :)

*he’s defended such nonsense before, so this should be fun!!

-wake up and wise up man take this every day for 21 days, you feel much better about yourself and it will help understand your white privilege .

For 21 days, do one action to further your understanding of power, privilege, supremacy, oppression, and equity ”

That’s bog standard habit changing technique. Nothing wrong with that.
DiAngelo says you must do that for your entire life because you were born with the sin of racism.

One’s a simple technique of encouraging awareness in oneself, the other is a self flagelating cult practice.

          BIG feckin’ difference man :)

You said nonsense three times. Calm down. I’m sure the version of me living in your head is saying everything you want him to and your comebacks are devastating.

(But doesn’t your entire premise, that Trump’s victory is a result of identity politics on the left, depend on not just the existence of white fragility, but its astonishing ability to overwhelm reason, good sense and morality? Shame to see it refuted, so. You’d have to blame the right for electing Trump! What a turnaround!)

..DiAngelo explains to NPR that when bias is upheld by legal authority and institutional control, it’s transformed into systems of racial inequality. Racism’s survival doesn’t depend on our agreement or beliefs — even if you don’t think people should be treated differently because of their race, they automatically will be mistreated across those systems: education, health care, criminal justice, housing, banking, economics, language, technology, media representation, ideology and so on. If we don’t interrupt the systems we live within, then we’re complicit in them, says DiAngelo. “In that way, we can say that nice white people who do nothing further to challenge racism are racist…

She’s some snake oil sales person. She’ll charge anything from $2.5k to $10k a session.

        As Thomas Sowell says…

” Racism is not dead, but it is on life support — kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and people who get a sense of superiority by denouncing others as “racists.” “

          1. Clampers Outside

I understand perfectly well, and support the new definition Johnny.

With regard to DiAngelo, the best snake oil sales happen when a pinch of truth is in the mix when diagnosing a problem, and a fix…. as is pointed out in the article I linked to.
It is when so much more beyond both an issue and fix are nothing more than massaged nonsense is the snake oil revealed to be hokem, and racist hokem at that.
