Fair play to him, a sincere and proper apology.

In other news, his latest film is out next week, so review copies going out to journos later this week I’d imagine…

  2. Do I need a username?

While I did always think Connors was merely manipulated and radicalized (in a manner of speaking) by the Pot Bellied Goblin Barrett and Farage’s bachelor ex-lap dog, it just goes to show how easy it is to use and abuse someone who is fragile. It is still certainly used to a great extent by Youth Defence who have ruined some people’s lives and their relationships with their families.

In this regard, my real ire is directed at Grift Media and their penchant for tabloid right wing populist smear and smut and wherever you find smoke and mirrors, bungled smear and manufactured polemics, you’ll find a certain McJerk always McLurking in the background stirring the pot, before it inevitably boils over onto himself. One of these days, he’ll go too far..

mcgawk seems content enough to gossip from the sidelines at this point. he has his ‘alternative media’ platform and is gonna run with that. so while i don’t expect them to start actively whipping people up a la G*mma and the likes, they are more than happy to launder stories/rumours for them too with the defence of plausible deniability.

      1. Do I need a username?

@class wario McJerk never really grew up or left student politics, a time when he spectacularly imploded his own political career. Years later he tries the same tactics of gutter insinuation and polemics for the sake of I don’t know what with the same bungled results.

As my Gran would, there is a “want” in him.

        I dunno

The lad must have something to offer
Otherwise he wouldn’t be engaged, in a professional capacity like
By these various well funded special interest narrow minded groups.

        Like, as an eg
That fake nurse/ porter thing with that lad Patton back in the Repeal campaign
If I was caught out as rotten as that I’d probably never work again

    this is important.
This is happening more and more and acknowledging mistakes is the cure rather than doubling down.
NYT have really intriguing podcast on the 1st hand experience of being online radicalized
So many folk are swayed, led astray, and are targetted for this

    1. Janet, dreams of big guns

thanks for this, it’s not just children who are targeted online, but lonely vunerable frightened people

nice to see. not usual to see genuine apologies anymore. though damage has been done and id be more sceptical/cautious of the guy in future.

  5. SOQ

While the apology is welcome, this is not the first time Mr Connors has been involved with those people- he done an interview with one some time back. His defense appears to be that now finds their views repugnant but this has obviously been a very recent revelation because he knew what he was dealing with a long time ago- either that or he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Gaining a homophobic reputation is one thing but throwing the offensive slur linking homosexuality and pedophilia is another level all together. Good luck trying to find work in the entertainment industry after that.

  6. class wario

to be fair, i’d heard he’d made an apology and was expecting one of the ‘sorry if you were offended’ variety but that comes across as heartfelt and genuine. hopefully he overcomes these demons of his.

  7. Junkface

It’s a full apology, I’ll give him that. Not sure I would believe every aspect of it, but if he means to continue in a more understanding way without spouting the kind of nonsense he has before, then people should accept it and move on.

  8. RuilleBuille

There is nothing truthful or honest about this ‘apology’. He has just realised that people in the acting profession won’t work with him in the future and he is desperately trying to save his career.

  9. ian-oh

Man realise he has been hanging around with far right people who generally detest his community.

Wow, did he not know who they were before getting up on stage?

    Methinks he did…..

  10. Broadbag

Nice update, a bit of class from R O’Gorman, hopefully he has also learned a lesson from this that being extremely quiet and having the likes of Hazel Chu fight your battles doesn’t yield good results.

  11. Vanessanelle

In fairness, I believe him and accept his apology is sincere.

However he should have named the very people and groups he’s been knocking around with for a number of years up to this point, rather than just allude to them.

That would have taken real courage, and demonstrated his contrition far more accurately. IMO anyway.

However as someone who got targeted and singled out for a dose of cancel culture treatment as a result of my comments here in support of Minister Roderic O’Gorman, maybe I’m a bit to close to be reasonably independent.

In any event, John Connors has changed his tune, and that statement can’t have been an easy task for him. And that’s not nothing.
So for that I thank him, and I wish him well

    1. Tom Wong

who called you out vanessanelle? and with a username like that – they should know better
I’d say there’s a trail of dead avatars all over Pimlico…

      1. Vanessanelle

        Not saying who

But a group I was very visibly involved with asked for all mention of them including pics etc to be removed
        And cited specifically
        My support of Minister O’Gorman

I knew at the time they were got at
        I’d seen it before
Mainly via the late Frilly Keane columns and other stuff

And I’m certain this group isn’t the only one ‘they’ attempted to provoke and wind up

I suppose I’ll know more as the year rolls on and the COVID-19 era starts to come to an end

  12. Micko

Fair play to him for apologising and same to Roderic for accepting.

Matter resolved in a nice grown up way.

    1. Bertie Theodore Alphege Blenkinsop

I was looking forward to Roderic’s video calling him out, shìte in a bucket style.

  13. Peter Dempsey

The Left are broadly in favour of accepting John’s apology. If John was a middle class landlord, they wouldn’t be so concilatory. Bigotry of low expectations.
