Yikes.

How Galway compares with Budapest, Hungary and Talinn, Estonia – both countries are on the ‘government’s travel-friendly ‘Green (with envy) List’.

Guaranteed rain and the ‘craic’ doesn’t come cheap, you know.

There are so many criminals operating similar scams in this country Revenue would need a special unit

Christ almighty – imagine paying €4k(!) to stay only one week(!) in student accommodation(!!) in a place where it rains 200 days a year.

I’d rather spend the money doing up the garden and sitting in that in the rain

For that you could go somewhere not on the green list for a lovely sun holiday and quarantine in style for 2 weeks on your return.

Jesus wept… I don’t think you know what a “failed state” means – paying people €350 a week unemployment is sort of the opposite of a failed state.

Ain’t that the truth now rob
another slimy establishment shill slithering around in pigswill

        2. Janet, dreams of big guns

350 a week is not unemployment, it’s to hold your job
jobseekers or unemployment is 200 a week

holding the job the government has deemed unsafe to do, it’s not a gift and it’s not your full wage

how is StayCity continuing to offer apartments for short lets in Dublin city centre (a designated rent pressure zone) in contravention of the 2019 regulations ?

they were refused change-of-use permission and their appeal was unsuccessful

    1. Vanessanelle

      Nobody is enforcing it

You could see that at the start of lockdown with the amount of former AirB&Bs coming available for long term occupancy agreements

High taxes, high regulation, high wages, outrageous legal and insurance costs, ……

    Do the math.

We go to Hungary at least twice a year.
Mother in law lives in Tokaj(Tokay) famous for it’s wineries,
only a short drive to Slovakia and Ukraine.
The water parks and natural springs are outstanding
value for money. €20 or less for a family of 4 all day pass.
Dining out is cheap and the variety of fresh foods and dishes available
is incredible compared to here. The wines and local spirits all taste of more!
Hotels charge by room, not by number of guests. We usually do a few overnight stays in different areas of the country such as Hajdúszoboszló, Debrcen, Eger, Miskolc, Gyor, Balaton and Pésc. You are literally spoilt for choice.
Rent a car from Fox rentals in Budapest, pre-book the cheapest available and you might end up with a Mondeo, Focus or Insignia. Pick up and drop off from arrivals included. No extra insurance if you use your Visa or Mastercard.
Public transport is excellent and if you like to travel by train, it’s very comfortable, book your guaranteed seat in advance for a few extra euros. The metro in Budapest is a great way to get around and the cities, Buda and Pest and are full of culture and sights to see.
We have a dentist who rides a Harley and he’s a big fan of Irish literature. He tells jokes like Kevin Bridges, so it’s like dentistry and a show for €30.
We’ve used private hospitals on the rare occasion. For example, to remove a small benign mole from an eyelid cost less than €200 including consultation on Monday and operation on Thursday the same week. Can’t fault them tbh.
If you haven’t been yet, put Hungary near the top of your list.
Tune in to next weeks Wish You Were Here from Ukraine.

It was cheaper for my ma and da to fly over there, spend two weeks and get 6 false teeth between them with full aftercare than it was for just my ma to get just one of her teeth done here

And you’ll probably shove the mother in law into Dealgan when she can’t walk- no trees so they all have a clear view of the >>> local grave yard.

Is your man pretending he doesn’t know that the green list is not a list of recommended holiday destinations or is he just thick? Either way he is best ignored.

    1. Termagant

Well they say that but then you’ve got your wan on the radio telling us the travel status is “normal with caution”
Now you know how when you’re out and about in your motorcar, and you’re at the lights and it turns green? Well the rule is “proceed with caution” but you’d be lying to me if you told me that you didn’t just put the foot down and fire away 90% of the time.

    Go to Tallinn, seriously.

Best food I’ve eaten in Europe, probably anywhere, if I’m honest.

Lovely people, lovely city, lovely KGB museum!

10/10 would visit again in a heartbeat

Depends where in Paris, like anywhere else…

Bratislava, Slovakia does it for me. Plenty to see and do too.
