Protectionism

at

This morning.

Balfe Street, Dublin 2

An Tánaiste and Minister for Trade, Enterprise and Employment, Leo Varadkar, and actor and author Amy Huberman (wearing a design by Helen Cody) launching #MADELOCAL.

The campaign, developed by The Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI), is a nationwide initiative to boost sales and drive revenue for both makers and retailers.

DCCI’s ambition is that the Made Local campaign will ‘remind consumers taking staycations this year of the high-quality, unique products available from Irish makers and designers across the country’.

The Design Council of Ireland

Hey, I know.

Let’s lose the maskage.

After all, you guys could be anyone.

From left: Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) Chair Breege O’Donoghue, Amy Huberman , An Tánaiste and Minister for Trade, Enterprise and Employment, Leo Varadkar and Rosemary Steen, CEO, DCCI,

Nice one.

But is that really Breege?

Fair to say I have not captured the zeitgeist with this opinion :)

Sorry to hear about Mildred cheating on you with her lawful wedded spouse
Still- we did win the league

to me it looks like it was designed by a nun, who then decided that she wanted to design a rocket mid launch instead

Agreed, it’s horrid and does nothing for Huberman who to be fair has a certain sense of style, not so much when wearing a lampshade combined with a valance.

    2. Vanessanelle

looks to me like some new kinda Maternity wear

      completely shapeless

maybe Amy isn’t the only lady known around these parts that “might” have news

      1. SOQ

        shapeless?

You’ve seen nothing yet- think a neck tent down to the half ankle with a 12″ gathering band at the bottom and greased back hair in a pony tail.

        Young wans eh?

        Oh and block heeled platforms.

      1. sidhe

is Cian really an FG shill? a bit of a contrarian, by more liberal broadsheet standards, but I don’t know if I’d call him a shill

        1. Vanessanelle

Oh the C!an login is a direct protege of the Young Kennys original experiment

And I speak from direct historic and original experience

          ( ﹁ ﹁ ) ~→

incidentially Sid, I’ve never called that log in a ‘Shill’

          1. Cian

LOL Vanessa *knows* lots of things that she “experienced”. She does like to be in the know [*taps nose*] and love to *insinuate* at things rather than come straight out and say it.

And then gets fierce shirty if evidence to the contrary is produced.

This is one of those times where she is totally wrong. Unfortunately I can’t actually prove that I’m *not* a shill ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For the record: any views expressed here are my own. I do not currently have or ever had any membership with any political party/ media organisation / shilling organisation / George Soros / or anything similar. I have never been paid for commentary here (or indeed anywhere) – mores the pity. I just like (most) of the banter here.

          2. sidhe

            thanks for that Cian

having just spent the past few days arguing with people who don’t believe I am who I say I am, I have a certain amount sympathy with you. I’m actually tempted to post under my own name, just to clear the matter up

as I said, the majority of broadsheet readership strike me as a liberal bunch (mostly), so I can see how your posts would rub many the wrong way, but I don’t think I would consider you one of the ‘fraperoom’

          3. GiggidyGoo

@Cian. Unfortunately I, for one, don’t believe you. Your record here has been to protect FG as much as possible. The odd time you will put in a little anti-FG note to try divert attention you may be getting.

          4. scottser

while my politics are the diametric opposite of cian’s, his posts are invariably well thought out and reasonable. there are others around this parish though, that should be shot with balls of their own doo doo for being obvious and tedious trolls.

          5. Vanessanelle

            nothing new to share really

Young Kenny was the original FG Frape Room log in circa 2000/01
It was so raw you even tell when there was a shift change, or when they were mulitple users on the same shift

My story with them started back on the original CH.com that meself and Mattie Purcell had going, loads of regulars, like many of them the original of the Blogger species
And the best writer I have ever came across, Shannonsider, started there, like meself, although I wouldn’t dream of thinking I was anywhere near Shannon’s class

this might sound very twee now to many of the young wans here, but there wasn’t the level of competition then that you have now, and there was no Social Media or Wiffy or Smart phones and the like

So a good Thread could go into the 1000s of posts – and the lurker : post rate was easily 70 or more : 1, so the hits were huge numbers

99.99% of the activity was 9-5 Monday to Friday, unless it was the Monday after a dodgy decision Sunday, then lads would be clocking into work from about 6am to let rip – and would stay on well into the night

Two rules – no outing (ye call that doxing now) or disclosing other users private details, and no discussion of players partners/ private lives

Anyway, didn’t one of the Kennys go rogue on a particular Hot Monday
So Mattie blocked the IP, which turned out to be a University Library – but that then blocked out loads of lads, both registered users and lurkers, who as I mentioned outnumbered the posters bit time

So for days everyone started posting under mockyah Kennys
like Kennyfornication, I can’t believe its not Kenny, 57 Verities of Kenny, the Kenny Show, DJ Kenny, Kennysider, Shakin’ Kenny, Kenny the Cope, Kennylicious, Top Kenny Black, Kenny McGinty, Forty Shades of Kenny, Kenny Dinners, Kenny Stadium, Kenny Motors, Kenny Cladding, St Kennys, Kenny PI

            100s no messing
all swinging hard and low at Fine Gael

So that we would remove the block on the IPs affected by the rogue Kennys, We were sent pics and details of that original frape room

and I’m sure the other set ups were as well, so I’m not the only one about that can tell you for sure that Fine Gael were the first to target Irish forums to proselytise

In any case, we started to wind down 03 /04 ourselves
and Clarehurlers is an entirely different set up now, maybe its 4th or 5th pair of hands / Generation later

On a side note, the immediate access C!an has to detail, data, sources and facts is too organised, prompt and detailed to the point of exhibit level, is all ye really need to know to be convinced
Incidentally, C!an isn’t the only one at it
            Nor is Fine Gael

But this is the internet, we’re all here at something; I would echo Scottie there tho
C!an is at least decent and honest, and has a very proscribed and well mannered agenda,
Unlike the bots and trolls engaged at unhinging others with fake news and bullying. C!an has never harrassed anyone or sought to shut anyone down or hunt them off the board
Nor have they every stalked or plagued someone through other SM accounts
Or doxxed anyone – constructive or otherwise

          6. Cian

            Cool story.

So I’m a shill because I’m too good to be true – is that it? LOL

I can use a search engine. Which i do. And then I read around it. Then I post. (sometimes i skip step 3) I include links so y’all can judge the original information. I don’t have anyone feeding me info. I post on loads of topics – not just the political ones – with (as far as i notice) the same level of detail. I like numbers – and hate when they are misused.

And I’m damned when i post anything critical of FG/positive of any other parties – GiggidyGoo accuses me of doing it to “divert attention”.

*geez – you’ve given me an idea – perhaps I *should* approach FG and actually get paid for doing something I like! XD

  2. GiggidyGoo

Pretty ill-fitting stuff apart from the scarf (you can’t go wrong with a scarf really) and the cherry-coloured outfit.

  3. Johnnythree

Much more interesting is the Design & Crafts Council of Irelands structure/ funding & Governance. Take a little dig into that tangled web and you will reveal lots of interesting things.
