Behold: the Mazu Eightytwo – part ‘day boat’, part super yacht – a 24.5m composite hull craft with a lounge, kitchen, master suite, two ensuite guest cabins, a multipurpose foredeck and terraced steps leading down to the water at the rear. Three Volvo Penta engines cruise at 35 knots with a top speed of 40 knots.

It debuts at the 2020 Cannes Yachting Festival, if that’s still a thing and you happen to be passing.

Had one of those last week. Rubbish. Winter job on the building sites in London was needed for the deposit for the evaluation test voyage. Hardest game in the world that; 12 hours a day on “Paddy’s Motorbike” (pneumatic drill).

I was ferrying that Darren Kennedy to a fashion show gig in Tramore because that Brendan Courtney was filming and he went to examine the novelty of an onboard cigarette lighter; accidentally brushing his knee against the throttle levers. She went pedal to the metal into Arklow harbour and hit a submerged LIDL shopping trolley. Hull punctured in three spots beneath the waterline, bedrooms flooded, microwave banjaxed, duvets and bed linen destroyed, the lot. Structurally unsound with zero survivability. Bought a paddling pool off that Richard Bruton lad on eBay instead. Never looked back.

As John Major’s brother once said about being a yacht owner, the two best days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. Hope that makes everyone feel better.
