Special directive: the illuminati has sent them to SOQ’s house to make him wear a mask.

Specifically a Mowag Piranha III (not sure the sub model)

The Irish Army have a number of these, and they are well tested. Incredible machines, they can manage everything they have put in front of them. Whatever you may think of the Irish Defence Forces, they do their best to get good equipment, and they test it properly. As a result, many forces approach them for advice on things such as the Mowag.

A few years ago, RTE did a good documentary on troops preparing for the Lebanon, and they had one episode dedicated to the teams who drove these, and the capabilities. They are not for the faint hearted.

Edit: I should add, on my bucket list is the opportunity to drive one :-)

After the DF operated the SISUs in Lebanon they had to up their game as regards APCs…the Mowag is a serious piece of kit and is the best out there, even the Brits are moving towards them now.
90% of the DF Mowags are in the troop carrying varient with two out of every ten in the medivac varient and recovery varient.
60mph cross country is surprisingly comfortable….and it gets there very quickly…i drove them in Liberia.
        €1,000,000 a pop.

I first met them in Liberia – a few interesting stories there :-)

After seeing the older troop carriers from the Military Museum, it is good to see they invested in good kit.

          Do you offer driving lessons?

Worth adding, for those who might not know: In Liberia doing 60 mph on the roads was tantamount to suicide in an ordinary car. We drive on the left side of the road, the French drive on the right side of the road, but Liberians drive on the GOOD side of the road :-)

Charles Taylor being arrested and whisked away during the night by the Army Ranger Wing in the back of a Mowag was a great result….a simple knock on the door and a quiet request to accompany said Rangers was quickly complied with by Taylor…probably because he knew it was his safest option…he still got 50yrs in the clink.

I’m retired now but if you contact any of the battlion HQs….your nearest one i suppose,if you’re in Dublin, would be the 7th Bn in Cathal Brugha…ask for a visit to see a Mowag up close with a technical guide around one you might get a spin around Barracks.

@Praetorian: I came back into country the day he left. Interesting times at the airport, to say the least.
I do know that the locals learned to trust the Irish when they said anything, as they did follow through, unlike others of the UN. The Mowag made it physically possible, but it was the soldiery made it actually possible.
I salute you, and your comrades in arms.

            I got twigged.
Only took ten years but hey!

Remind me not to comment on really hot wheels. Like the ones I actually want to drive.

What is the insurance on a Mowag?

Had one one of those. Rubbish. Went deaf driving it to Electric Picnic with Samantha Mumba, but the Oglaigh paid up. Bought that Jim McDaid’s old state car (slightly dented, but a bottle of Jamie still in the boot) instead. Never looked back.
