A Hit In Your Heart

The votes are in.

Last week, with a €25 Golden Discs voucher on offer, I asked you for your favourite album track that you felt should have been released as a single but never was.

You answered in your tens.

But there could be only one winner.

Third Place:

This Is The One by Stone Roses

Rosette of Sirius writes:

That self-titled debut album, like Hunky Dory is one of the few records where every track could have been a singe. It’s a masterpiece and this track hits me in the feels every time I hear it….

Runner-up:

Lover, You Should’ve Come Over by Jeff Buckley

Random Noise writes:

From Grace. Just heartbreaking, and in register that I can sing along to in the car.

Winner:

Another Town, Another Train by ABBA

Slightly Bemused writes:

‘From the album Waterloo. As a kid, it evoked in me a sense of wanderlust, and exploration. I was too young, and the themes of not settling and even of abandoning everything and everyone went right over my head.

…Over the years, I have hummed this in my head as I went from airport to airport in a lifestyle that in some ways mimicked both my childhood dreams and the theme of the song…

…A short while ago I realised I was still constantly reusing the same clothes from the suitcase I came home in, nearly 2 years ago now, just rewashing them as needed and stacked on a chair. Despite my wardrobe being full, just as described in this song….

…The song is also one of the few where Bjorn was the lead singer, with the ladies on vocals….

Nick says: Thanks all.

    Yay, it’s ABBA!
Delighted for you Slightly; someone’s going to be disgusted though and she’s packing. Stay safe.

Wow! That was unexpected, as I suppose all good things in life are.
Thanks, guys, Now just to figure out where to spend them :-)

Sorry, Janet. I hope this does not upset you

      Well done! Great choice.

      Don’t mind Janet!,

One day she’ll come too realise how ABBA are simply one of the best acts of our time.
When you think of the limited resources they had in studio in the 70’s and this music they created is astonishing.
The structure of the music, the lyrics, harmonies, the story of the band!

      Sheer brilliance!

        I owe Janet a dance.

It will not be to an Abba song as I never figured out how to dance to them, and they are not her favourite. My dancing queen will dance to another tune, I am sure.
