RTÉ News health Correspondent Fergal Bowers
5 deaths reported today. 69 new cases.
— Fergal Bowers (@FergalBowers) August 6, 2020
This is disinformation. Take this tweet down. Four of these deaths were months ago. You have a duty as a journalist to report the truth. @VillageMagIRE @broadsheet_ie https://t.co/OiQfK0o3yM

Last night.
Why put this out now? We need calm before opening schools
Despite Sweden’s schools being open throughout no higher rate of infection among children than Finlandhttps://t.co/ycVfPndcoK@Niall_Boylan @indepdubnrth @broadsheet_ie @VillageMagIRE @EducateTogether #SaveTheChildren https://t.co/URw3m5Fso2— Frank Armstrong (@frankarmstrong2) August 7, 2020
This morning.
G’wan the Frank.

Who made Frank the head of the tweet police? Maybe request more context rather than shouting about disinformation. Interesting to see the PBH tweet about how choc-full of virus young kids can be, this after months of ‘they aren’t a threat’ guff. If I was a teacher there’s no way I’d be going back to face day after day of exposure to the wee vectors who you simply can’t expect to be on top of hygiene and distancing. Schools out!
So the Swedes some sort of super humans then?
Super troopers.
Ah ha.
100%
Disseminating information about deaths from months ago giving the impression they are current is about the height of the abilities of ‘Journalists’ who rely on State propaganda as ‘news’. he will, of course, hide behind a Cianism I suppose.
The government has been transparent with the reporting of cases. They have published daily reports on numbers (new cases, deaths, hospital and ICU figures, breakdown by location/age).
These are facts, not propaganda.
For example, yesterday the official post said:
The latest news as of 6.45pm on Thursday 6 August
5 deaths and 69 cases confirmed
• the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has been notified of 5 additional deaths from COVID-19 (4 of these deaths are late notifications of deaths that occurred in April and June)
• there have been 1,768 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland
• 69 additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed
• there have now been 26,372 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland
with a link to more details…

I don’t know why you even bother Cian
Probably because he has something to add to the discussion, unlike a childish silly
Can give it, but can’t take it then eh?
If you can show me one time when I’ve abused you or Pat Giggidy please do it and I’ll ask Broadsheet to remove it. I’ve done nothing only show you in particular a lot of love since you got here, since, as you know, I’m a big admirer of yours
Thanks – you’ve just proved my point.
This is about Bowers tweet, is it not? And my post mentioned about giving an impression.
But we’re taking about Fergal’s tweet, not the official record. There’s a burden of responsibility on journalists to recognise the difference between “5 deaths reported today” and “Today’s report includes 5 deaths from April to present”. It’s not good enough to clarify later, especially with twitter where a single tweet is going to do the rounds in isolation most of the time.
Bowers posted the first tweet at 6.49PM. 6 minutes later, he posted a follow up tweet that “4 deaths are late reports relating to April & June”.

Armstrong posted his comment at 7.19PM – so how did he manage to miss the second tweet?
because he has his own agenda to push while accusing others of pushing an agenda
Yes, this was live tweeting of a press event. The journalist was reporting news as it was announced and tweeted that the deaths did not occur today when that was announced shortly after the first tweet in the same thread.
Whiff of fake news off this post, Broadsheet to be honest.
He’s asking for the tweet to be taken down (in its current format) as far as I can see. You missed the part where in the 6 minutes you mentioned, another twitterer brought it to his attention about when the deaths occurred, and he then had no choice but to clarify.
So he was called out before clarifying the figures?
Yep
Even if that’s the case I doubt he would have seen it as he was busy live tweeting an event.
I doubt he missed the correction, as in live tweets, the replies come in instantly and would show up directly on his tweetline, (or whatever twits callit)
Frank seems a bit of a conspiracy loon. I heard Bowers on the Six o’clock news and he clearly stated that four of the five deaths were from April/June.
The more worrying thing about this is, this is Frank Armstrong version 2…
Ah come on lads
The fella was right to call out the 1st tweet for its lack of completion
And Bowers should have acknowledged it
He posted under his ‘Work’ Account and his followers were entitled to assume that the contents were 100%
And they weren’t
Until he supplied the finishing info
Jesus ye’d pick an anything around here
100% what? Because the tweet is correct . 5 deaths were reported and he was tweeting live as the announcements were made.
Yak and then yak
Talk about empty vessels
