Some Dublin schools are considering offering ‘breathing breaks’ to allow students go outside and take off their masks for a time.
This afternoon.
Via Today FM:
We visited three schools in Dublin this week to find out how preparations are going for the coming year.
Around 930,000 students are returning to school for the first time since March and, when they do, they will face a very different learning experience.
Kathy Jones, Principal of the Bremore Educate Together school in Balbriggan said students and teachers will have to do all they can to keep each other safe.
“We will have to build in movement breaks and breathing breaks for the students where they can go outside, maybe remove the mask for a little while and go back in,” she said.
Meanwhile, Michael McHugh from O’Connell Secondary School in Drumcondra said
“Teachers by their nature are innovative people and they will come up with strategies and ways of keeping children apart but again, children by their nature want to play and interact with each other.
“We will be staggering breaks and we will have bubbles and pods in classrooms to keep them apart as much as possible.”
If you tolerate this, etc.

mostly negated by the fact that they have all been tearing around playing together on the street for the last 6 months
Now Janet- don’t be coming on here with your common sense. We need more FEAR please.
Think that one through, Janet. If I get a flu vaccine this winter is that negated by the fact that I didn’t get one last year?
you’re comment is illogical
Can’t make head nor tail out of that comment. Not exactly thought through George.
It might be negated by its efficacy
They haven’t ALL been tearing around playing together.
There is a difference between playing on the street and playing/learning indoors.
I can garantee you all the ones on both my parents estate, my friends estates and where I live HAVE, football, wrestling, backers on bikes, kiss chasing ( yes it’s still a thing) bouncy cases, paddling pools on the green, any child at home or. distancing is a tiny minority.
We used to have those back in my day.
We used to call them “breaks”.
little break and it’s manky warm milk put me off cows milk for life
The milk was so bad! Oh, the thoughts of it! Bleurgh!
plus the propaganda is bull, I have broken pretty much every bone except my coxis
Then again utter madness…
Wearing a mask is part of the education then….I thought the kids were not at risk btw? Loads of bullpoo…
“If you tolerate this…” indeed
Very true lads.
This is madness alright. I’m thankful my daughter is only going into Senior infants.
is home schooling legal in Ireland ?
Yes.
Schools who impose this nonsense may be on dodgy legal ground.
There is no law that school children must wear masks so it is surely the school who will be liable if a child takes an asthma or bad panic attack?
And what happens if a parent refuses to allow a child wear one? Is the school allowed to refuse entrance on such grounds?
Totally.
I’m hoping this ‘kids in masks’ thing all falls into the same shambolic mess as everything else we try to do in Ireland.
It’s actually one of the best things about living here. ;-)
Most parents are responsible, so it probably won’t come up all that often.
A child taking an extra couple of extra asthma or panic attacks here and there is grand now so is it?
For a seasonal virus- in the non infectious season.
Neither of those things that you mention have been shown to be true.
Thank Heavens my kids are too young for secondary school but I’d take them out immediately if they had to face this type of physical and psychological abuse.
+100
Muzzling children to the point where some cannot breathe- because of a seasonal virus which has resulted in no discernible difference in overall YTD fatality rates and does not affect young healthy immune systems?
Any principle/ school board who makes such a decision should be booted out on the spot- not even time to pick up their things- goodbye- don’t let the door etc.
“Muzzling children to the point where some cannot breathe”
– completely hysterical and inaccurate, like any of your pronouncements relating to COVID – it is a couple of milimeters of cotton…
Is that the best you can do dear?
It is nearly like you have given up at this stage.
Hyperbole much?
Muzzling children to the point where some cannot breathe
Muzzling? really?
cannot breath? seriously? it’s a mask literally designed to breath through.
It’s not about whether the child can breath or not.
It’s that making kids wear masks to “protect” them against a disease that barely affects them is just wrong. .
We should be tweety-pootkins ashamed.
It absolutely IS about whether the child can breath or not- it must be.
For something based on dodgy modelling, dodgy tests, dodgy stats and bad science?
No.
Enough.
Honestly, I can’t really comment either way of the efficacy of masks. I don’t know enough about it. There’s so much info out there that’s contrary.
I do believe that it is wrong to enforce anyone to wear anything on their face if they don’t want to, especially with the threat of imprisonment or possible financial ruin.
The children can breathe. This is hysterical nonsense.
Indoctrinating children with nonsense. Masks don’t work. Kids don’t get sick. Hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment (I know Irish doctors who are prescribing it). The threat has been neutralized. We should be back to normal by now.
‘Hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment (I know Irish doctors who are prescribing it).’
It’s said to be effective if taken early on. I’ve heard of doctors prescribing it on the quiet. Why the cloak and daggers?
@lilly he’s making it up.
Two people I know have been treated with it.
Prove it. We can all say these sort of things. Back it up.
I was expecting that but how can I? I’m afraid you’ll just have to take my word for it? I’m being honest and truthful.
Suppose sharing a single cigarette, dragging on a soggy filter, behind the sheds is now a thing of the past
they do it virtually like everything else
They pass the vape pipe now inhalling carcinogens with a bubblegum flavour instead of spending all their call credit money on 20 Silk Cut.
