Open the pubs, clusters will be inevitable. Does that mean the public an is negligent? Probably not.

Keep the pubs closed, prison for mask offences. Opening schools is more important to the economy than pubs.

I don’t think the argument is that all publicans are negligent.
I think it is more that gatherings, crowds or people congregating will lead to spread. However education is key for the development of the nippers and so is worth the risk.
Socialising is important for mental health and well-being and obviously publicans need income. However for most people there are alternatives to going to the pub to get your sweet daily dose of social interaction and, however pecuniary, publicans are receiving support in a variety of forms.
Health crisis requires sacrifice. Is education different? My view is yes.
Then there is the argument that people who get off their bin on the devil’s nectar are hardly going to think of the greater good and measures necessary to stem the spread (social distancing, not molesting every inanimate object around you and touching your face etc. – we all do that right?).
I know you can make the argument about people in more rural settings having no alternative but I think it would make more sense to focus on creating alternatives than insisting they have to go to the pub and be able to behave as if there were no Rona on the rampage.

Barry (nor Smirky Leokins) can’t bear it when they’re called out and resort to trying to twist matters to suit their agenda.
Barry who has a ‘Barry – do you know who I am – Ward’ air about him would have us believe that his tirade was all about two words of an amendment. Now why would a FFGer get so upset over two words, which he says won’t make a difference? Unless of course, they do make a difference.

And then there’s the boy who is writing up Varadkar’s twitter getting ideas above his station. What a waste of money, employing a Wong to do it.

pubs need to open…for many it’s the only social outlet …do not underestimate their importance in the community.

In fairness, that is another problem that seriously needs to be addressed. Why not use this as an opportunity to change that. Necessity is the mother of all creation.

I’m not advocating one way or the other (I do love a few pints, mind you) but there is no chance of us seeing any long-term change is this area. It is engrained in the majority.

it’s all a misery anyway imo….I mean who the hell really wants to socialise in a pub wearing PPE under strict health and safety protocols?

the problem nobody wants to admit to, on all sides, is that businesses which rely heavily on freedom of movement and social interraction are FUPPED

the twitter ye posted yesterday of that socially-distanced gig in Newcastle genuinely almost made me cry, that kinda lark seeks to completely miss the point, bypass the elephant in the room

sure, yeah, there’ll be people who will attempt to be chipper about it all and attempt to live alongside it but until Covid-19 is stamped out we’re all serving a virtual prison sentence

It’s the hand we’ve been dealt, you have to get on with and hope we all emerge with our health and sanity.

Identity politics are backwards. They are the opposite of any progress in society. They have no place in law or science. They promote segregation and actually treating people differently based on skin colour or gender. Mental and actually racist!

      1. Junkface

Working together with everyone regardless of their skin colour to create more unity and fairness in society was something that was already improving decade by decade since the 1960’s in the world generally. This can be proved over time with more and more representation from minorities and women in western democracies, Stephen Pinker has some studies on this.
Opportunities have improved in this regard for people who were not given the same chances in the past. Of course there are still small pockets of problems with racism and fairness, but Identity Politics makes everyone hyper aware of skin colour in society and throws our progress away! Its also based on terribly written papers (with no data to backup wild claims) that were never peer reviewed and complete rubbish books like ‘White Fragility’ which are just laughable nonsense. This is at the core of the woke / identity politics movement.

          1. Junkface

Wow! You seem open minded. I’m guessing you are much smarter than Stephen Pinker ha ha!

No I’m not a fan of Jordan Petersson actually. Too much waffle. Nice try at pigeon holing me though.

So much an Ireland of equals, Leo? You bloody hypocrite –still kicking the case of Shane o Farrell down the road and heaping abuse on his family. Get that public enquiry going as voted for , you spoofer.

barry ward, who’s last foray into public attention was when he had to repay illegally claimed expenses of €10,086, has a bit of a cheek taking moral high ground

fortunately for ward, the threshold covered by Standards in Public Office legislation is €12,700, so he got off lightly
