That Would Be An Epidemiological Matter

at

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health

“the average number of close contacts per case was 5 and the median was 3

Does this not indicate that people are continuing to keep their contact circles pretty small – and/or are maintaining social distancing – without any Garda powers?

Anyone?

8 cases in ICU for the whole country and none of them recent admissions.

    1.2% positivity rate for tests.
Subtract for false positives and results for historical infections.
    Are there any real infections?

Seen someone posting a screenshot of the stats around testing on Twitter but can’t find the source, is there a site where you can see the number of the tests and hospital admissions etc?

The screenshot i refer you mentioned 55k tests in the last week and 8 admissions to ICU. Would be useful if these figures were published more widely and framed more responsibly by the media

Is that what NPHET do, express ‘views on fairness’ rather than give critical advice to government?

For risk of undermining their credibility they should stick to advising on what they know about.

Glynn states that there have been “1774 deaths due to Covid”, yet:

The Department of Health has previously outlined that, in line with WHO guidance, Covid-19 deaths are recorded as such, “where the disease caused, or is assumed to have caused, or contributed to death”.

    Also, up to July:

There have been more than 1,700 deaths from Covid-19. Eight of those who have died were under the age of 65 and did not have an underlying condition. Of course, each of the 1,700 deaths is a tragedy. That said, it is possible that we have lost a sense of perspective.

    Conclusion:
Ronan Glynn’s statement that “there have been 1774 deaths due to Covid”, is incorrect

The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for:

provision of strategic leadership and evidence based analysis and expert medical advice to the department, Government, broader health system and regulatory and professional bodies
development of policy and legislation with regard to patient safety and quality in health care
leading the development and coordination of health and wellbeing policy including the development of policy to address communicable diseases, obesity, rare diseases, non-communicable diseases, smoking, alcohol misuse and bioethical issues

Glynn is not fulfilling this role

I just watched that a few minutes ago. It’s an amazing watch. Here’s another upload of it with the subtitles already in place: https://youtu.be/SwlkumcRf6w

An ICU doctor from a hospital at Madrid airs his frustrations on mainstream Spanish TV. The stark contrast between what’s happening on the ground and the hysteria-driven narrative promoted by the media is laid bare. Those in the studio don’t know how to handle him. The things he talks about seem so applicable to what’s currently going on in Ireland
