It is not just the airport. I know of indoor gym classes with 20 people plus the instructor when 6 is the limit. I know of outdoor fitness classes with 40 people plus the instructor when 15 is the limit. The half bottomed nature of the restrictions/guidelines comes from the top.
Athletic Ireland says different:
Guideline: Sport facilities can remain open.
■ Gyms/leisure centres/swimming pools/exercise and dance studios can remain open with strict distancing and other appropriate protective measures in place:
■ Total Indoor Gym/Facility/Pool Use can remain at the previous maximum levels of 50 once there is sufficient space available. In addition, facilities should be extra vigilant of potential congestion points such as entrance/exit points, changing rooms and reception areas ensuring that social distancing and other public health measures are maintained at all times.
■ Organised Sports training within indoor facilities can do so in multiple pods of 6 once sufficient space is available and strict public health protocols are in place. (my emphasis)

Nice one Cian. My information came from gov.ie so I am not sure which one is more accurate/specific.
I think the Athletic Ireland one makes more sense. Even still, it means the outdoor group I know of is in breach.The organisers told me they were going to carry on as before as “they had no incidents”.
I’m in a boxing club which has adhered strictly to the guidelines since every recognized boxing club in Ireland is under a national insurance policy, which I assume would be void for the club if the guidelines were not followed. Cian’s post reflects exactly what has been relayed to all of us by our coaches. I’m not sure what the government’s website says (remember that it’s not always up-to-date a la the “must be actively seeking a job” PUP incident), but the athletic body in Ireland has been quick to rely guidelines to us.
They aren’t following the guidelines then.
They might be following the guidelines that suit themselves they’re not following the correct guidlines.

So if you’re trying to Ireland you need to have a valid reason (such as “essential travel”), god forbid you are a recipient of PUP. But if you’re entering the country, the door’s a wide open. Come right in!
Seems to me it has more to do with revenue than safety. Anything to lock down money in the country and anything to allow it to flow in.
