Are you with Three Ireland?

Having trouble?

Derek writes:

As I have no other options to find out what on earth is going on, for the last week (yes since about September 1) the Three Ireland mobile network has deteriorated to the point that one cannot even make a call. Let alone ring 1913 to contact someone in tech support in India who just tells you everything is fine.

Can any Broadsheet readers share if they’ve had any issues please?

No mobile data in many parts of Dublin city. An exclamation mark will appear every few minutes implying no signal or coverage. Poor download speeds (can’t even load the comreg.ie page to make an official complaint) let alone ring them, calls get dropped instantly. Happening all week,

Downdetector appears to show its happening in many counties (those who have the patience to try and manage to contact their twitter support)

Thanking you (Rant over..)

Anyone?

I’ve been with 3 on the same pay-as-go plan for the last 10 years. I haven’t experienced any change in service or coverage recently. Been around the city the last few weeks looking for a new place to live and the coverage appears to be the same as it ever was.

Could it be a hardware/software issue with your phone? Mine is a super cheap few-years-old phone that no loner receives updates so if the network’s working for me I’d expect it to be better for everyone else.

Try Malahide Road, Fairview end. No signal there.
Eden quay same. Many blackspots all over the city.

I’m a long time with 3 also, and just learned to live with it.

I had problems the same with the signal and mobile data , it look people on bill pay experience the trouble,
When i was on pay as you go never had a problem ,even the internet speed was better, worst decision ever to move to a bill pay !

I’ve had no problem. I’m on a prepay sim only plan for their all you can eat data. I’m on a iPhone 11, stream lots of music, podcasts and audiobooks every day when out running or walking and I also use Apple Carplay and stream Tidal hifi tier which is quite a heavy load. All without issue.

Get a loan of another 3 phone or an unlocked phone and see if your sim card works. Having said that, I had a similar issue a few years ago, and it eventually took me involving comreg to escape from the contract. The call centre people are reading from a script. Depending on what phrases you use, they’ll revert to the same area of that script and totally pee you off.

i had this issue 2 or 3 years ago with three. it turns out my phone number had been blacklisted or white listed cant remember .which. so i’d have that looked at by going in to a shop in person. email/phone no use.

I had similar problems with 3 some time ago (Pre-Covid). Went to the 3 store, they replaced the SIM (FOC) and all was back to normal again. Apparently, the SIM I had was quite old, and they deteriorate over time, or something. Worth trying anyway.

Three customer in Wexford. No problems with signal strength or data and I’ve even been using it to work from home.

I’d follow Mick’s suggestion and get your simcard looked at first.

Very bad in castlecomer co Kilkenny but grand in Kilkenny city .couldn’t use what’s app today

  9. One name per user please

Having throuble also with there network since last christmas. We even got new sim cards and a phone to see if that would fix the problem but it didnt so i Rang them up and they said that theyll get the tecnicial support back in touch with me but all i got was a message to go on a web site. Couldnt even do that. Im living 2 miles away from there 7 masts that they have in brittas in Co. Dublin. It seem all they want is money from you and if you fing up all you get is a forigen person that answers from there base in Co.Limerick and not in dublin. Nothing has been done to inprove the singnal, call or use of wifi.

It’s down to the poxy infrastructure we have
We can only blame ourselves for tolerating it

Good news is Elon Musk is putting in a satellite system using 35000 satellites orbiting the planet so in about 5 years time way before they bury the last rapid broadband cable at a cost of billions his system will be up and running connecting all with coverage World wide and hopefully controlled outside this jurisdiction

We will then no longer need to depend on vodaphone three virgin or even eir and be spared hours on end trying to get customer service provided by mutes that care enough of customer service as the man on the moon

I live in rural Ireland and it really sucks Rapid broadband passes by my door and it’s like the pony express
Now Dublin is suffering the same frustration we have endured for years

    Welcome to the club

Yes, have had very weak service since about three weeks ago, sometimes no signal at all.. It’s been better the last few days though

How about instead of moaning about it you walk into one of the many three stores around the country you know actual staff who can try and help you instead of writing this pointless poo

    1. Derek

Well you know I actually did that you know, first thing I did you know, guess what?

They are sales staff not techies (they are polite, but shrug their shoulders – beyond their abilities) They refer you to 1913 and if you’re lucky as one of them mentioned today, re-direct your call to limerick.

3 has network problems but they don’t want to admit it because then all the national papers pick up on it and the PR is negative.

I even replaced my sim for a new one today (as some posters suggested) network is still up and down.

From looking at downdetector alot of vodafone users are also miserable..

Dublin 20 , 3 diferent phones (2 nokias and one huawey) . No signal at the ground floor and 2g data connection very often when roaming around in Dublin. No signal at all win wiklow mountains. I was watching others talking while we had no coverage .

Full day of not receiving calls/texts, that I know of. Got notifications the following morning informing me I had missed calls – phone didnt even ring my end, also text messages delayed coming through by more than a day

I thought it’s my area that has bad signal, although I live in town here in Co. Wexford. Either no signal at all or the signal slows down anytime of the day. So there few of us experiencing bad signal from 3 network.

  16. Dave

I have had this problem since March and I am opposite a 3 mast. Finally someone in 3 told me how to fix it. As the 3 network is not up to speed with 4g not to mind 5g you need to go to settings and then cellular data. Once here go to network selection if it’s on automatic which it will be change it to 3G . This helped enormously the only problem is the phone will always revert back to automatic when turned off so you need to keep checking it. I am going to see can I get a better signal from another provider!!
    Hope this helps

  17. Tom

Yes I’m in Cork City and the Three data service really gone to crap this past 2 months…….. Really thinking of changing provider but from Eir because their service was 10 times worse…….

Have both Internet and 2 bill pay phones with 3. We are less than 1 mile from Mullingar Town and our reception is atrocious. Have been on chat bot with them etc and keeps reverting back to buffering. We are quite late going to bed in our house but even at 2/3am the reception is shite! €135 between broadband and phone bills and can’t even watch Netflix! Not good enough 3!!

  20. Brendon Coyle

My internet connection is so bad i am in wexford town 4G my bottom region i am thiking about leaving 3. I am tired of going to the 3 shop.

  21. Colin Russell-Conway

Since the start of April I’ve had nothing but issues on my data connection. I’ve contacted them multiple times on Facebook, email their site and by phone. Always the same, turn on and off airplane mode, your phone, disable 4G and put it only in 3G mode. Disable roaming, enable roaming, manually choose the network… At one point (while I was reliant on my 3Mbit rural home broadband connection for working from home) they told me to stay connected to the data connection for 24-48 hours while engineers investigated the issue. 48 hours later I got fed up waiting as I had multiple calls fail. No reply from.them even though I’ve followed up. I’ve since changed phone and I’m still getting the same issues. It seems to me that they’re prioritising some accounts over others as my wife has the same issue but a neighbour has a business account with 3 and theirs is fine. It’s a disgrace.
