An Oxford University Covid vaccine trial has been put on hold due to an adverse reaction in a trial participant
In these times we all want to hear
That a vaccine could be drawing near
So a pause in a trial
Even just for a while
Is unlikely to lead to much cheer

The linked Guardian article speculates that it could be just a high fever due to something like appendicitis and likely not causal from the vaccine, but this NYT article is giving different information
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/08/health/coronavirus-astrazeneca-vaccine-safety.html
“A person familiar with the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the participant who experienced the suspected adverse reaction had been enrolled in a Phase 2/3 trial based in the United Kingdom. The individual also said that a volunteer in the U.K. trial had received a diagnosis of transverse myelitis, an inflammatory syndrome that affects the spinal cord and is often sparked by viral infections. However, the timing of this diagnosis, and whether it was directly linked to AstraZeneca’s vaccine, is still unknown.”
Is the vaccine bleach?
there’s a reason vaccines typically take 7-10 years to engineer
we’ve really reached peak stupid to expect a reliable and easily deployed vaccine in timelines like “before November” or “within 18 months”
all bad news for us but useful fodder for politicians and stockbrokers
+1
Vaccine trials should be slow and very thorough
It will go a bit quicker than normal this time due to the sheet volume of resources being put towards (given how much the lockdown cost economies, governments will pay any money to have an effective vaccine).
Sheer
Not “sheet”
YOU’RE welcome.
And vaccine clinical trials should never be hastened.
You should know that. If not, its a silly comment.
…maybe someone can post a link to the letter signed by all the companies trying to develop a vaccine that no shortcuts can be taken in testing the efficacy of a vaccine…generally believed as an attack on Trump and the political pressure he is trying to bring…
