‘Substantially Less Than The Reported 1,709 COVID-19-Related Deaths’

Some pandemic huh?!??!
Unfortunalty, this isn’t the first time these (similar) figures have been shown.
No one cares about the facts.
Now wait for the “the lockdown saved all those extra lives” posts
Wait untill the full story is told
Note how bad 2018 was (Aussie Flu that year) but most of us didn’t even notice it.
Then see how mild 2019 and early 2020 were.
The next illness, covid or otherwise was always going to be higher than 2019.
The big surprise it is less than 2018.
Can we please stop panicing now.
Or if you do still need to panic, then please form an angry mob and march on the Dail, tell them we have had enough of project fear and it’s made up numbers.
No need to panic,
Didnt the flu of 2018 also kill half the residents in nursing homes it got into?
It might interest you to note that the European CDC has deaths from Covid19 at 4 or 5 per million population and this has been stable since June.
https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/sites/default/files/documents/covid-19-rapid-risk-assessment-20200810.pdf
Deaths from Cancer are about 3000 per million.
Deaths from influenza are about 140 per million person years..
Very interesting numbers, my God look at August in comparison! I caught the Flu of 2018 in January, what a nightmare that was!
I think Ireland has to start looking at how other EU countries are getting their economies functioning better.
August’s figures are not fully in yet Junk which is why the focus is up until the end of July.
And now those responsible are doubling down with 6 in a house limits and guards strutting around harassing people again.
But there is a peak in those numbers coming- when the cancers have spread and when the unemployment starts rising and when the evictions begin- and that list goes on and on. All of which will cost lives- way more than this supposed pandemic.
That not one journalist has been asking questions about this shows the absolute state of the media in Ireland.
They’re too busy writing yet more stories about Paul Mescal’s GAA shorts.
Irish journalism is little more than grubbing pondlife all drinking from the same toilet bowl.
Any chance you’d do an Answer a Broadsheet Reader” Charage?
Unlikely.
It would be akin to encouraging the village idiot.
But I do enjoy your screen appearances.
I count you amongst just a handful of people on here who are witty, intelligent and interesting enough to engage in debate.
The rest are whey-faced, ill-educated camp followers.
You know who I’m talking about.
They’re the ones with the pronounced over-bite and sticky-out ears who always sat at the back of the class.
They’ll be along soon.Just you watch.
You’ve just described Rees- Mogg there Charage
And, thank you, I’m glad you like the BS.tv stuff
SOQ: bear in mind that every patient undergoing surgery or a procedure in any hospital – irrespective of age/medical history has to have blood tests, sometimes multiple tests, depending on the time spent in hospital awaiting said surgery, which in itself will increase the numbers.
We’re being fed revised editions of the same data with a bit extra included for dramatic and legal justification should anyone dare question the illogicality of the measures taken by this and the previous government.
Graham Neary seems inappropriately excited about death.
April has 600+ additional deaths.
In March the lockdowns started
April saw a peak in deaths.
If this is a plandemic and lockdown didnt save lives, and masks block oxygen yadda, yadda, yadda… Genuine question, why are the government(s) doing it? Its clearly bad for the economy, bad for peoples mental health etc. so whats the deal? If it was a genuine initial panic and these numbers are real then they would obviously have started to roll back on restrictions, not increase them like it looks like they are about to do. I don’t get it whats in it for them? We even swapped governments midway through so you’d think the new lads would have exposed any shenanigans if there were any, no?
No 5G answers, please and thanks.
Art I don’t think its a plandemic just really poor decision making and Populist nonsense combined with a slowly burning desire to erode people’s rights. I don’t think its a conspiracy. It is convenient in that it got a Govt back into power and presented ideas as facts in the mind of the ordinary citizen.
You really think that the entire planet wanted to erode peoples rights so badly that they all got together at the exact same time to say “this virus is the one we’ve all been waiting for!” To what end though? The economy of nearly every country is in the toilet because of this, let alone all the other problems that are occurring because of it. All the mega conglomerates of the world who are losing billions of euros… you don’t think they would have got on to their lobbying buddies to put a stop to it for the sake of each and every government of the planet having a slow burning desire to temporarily erode peoples rights? Or are you suggesting the restrictions might never be lifted?
In relation to the ideas as facts point; it seems fair to say that the overwhelming majority of the health system agreed with these facts so the ordinary was bound to take them at face value seeing as we listen to our health professionals on everything else, no?
**You really think that the entire planet wanted to erode peoples rights so badly that they all got together at the exact same time to say “this virus is the one we’ve all been waiting for! ***
Eh no I didn’t say that at all. I said there is a slow burning desire to erode peoples rights which seems to be the same in most countries. Covid has been a natural and convenient platform on which to examine how strongly held those rights are under the guise of ‘protecting health’. I don’t think all Govts and Civil servants are conspiring but they are aiding and abetting. We rely less and less on facts and truth and logic have been distorted to such an extent t hat you are seen as an outlier if you check facts or propose doing so.
…it was the collapse of the vintners lobby that did it for me…
I know you didn’t say that, but that is what would have had to happen for this pandemic to play out like this so thats why i asked did you *think* it?
I’m still a bit lost though because then you say that there *is* a slow burning desire to erode peoples rights in *most* countries, that covid is a natural and convenient platform to test out those rights under the guise of the global health system and governments and civil servants are aiding and abetting. Apologies if I’m missing something, but to me that does sound like you think the entire planet aligned on this one thing they wanted so badly (I don’t agree you could call anything slow burning that practically shut down the entire world in one fell swoop) and the this was the virus that got them that goal.
Ignoring the supposition that facts/truth/logic may be being distorted for the minute, I suppose the reason why you (I mean that in the royal sense) may be being seen as an outlier for proposing to check facts is that this case you *are* the outlier? As in it seems to me the vast majority of the health care profession seem to agree on this, so to oppose that view by suggesting people check their facts is the exact definition of the minority/outlier view, no?
Art, that’s the problem with the anti-maskers, they feel more deaths are required to justify being “muzzled”. Please don’t ask them about jet fuel and steel beams…
The government’s are taking their directions from the WHO. How the WHO decide to make their recommendations I think is another story.
Interesting (as a sideline, and not to do with this) now that you mention 5G, is This Euronews report. https://youtu.be/MfCnjrFe91Q
please, Broadsheet, stop posting about Covid being nothing to worry about. As someone who’s seen first hand what this virus can do, playing it down is dangerous and wreckless.
+1
The key point is that these are deaths that have been registered, not actual deaths. Far too many people will omit to read that part of the note.
I don’t understand what you mean Nessa- would you mind expanding on your point a little please? tnx.
people are v complacent as it is, and numebrs are shooting up. to say “its only a few deaths” is remarkably cold and callous of people.
It’s only other people dying. When one of the nutjobs or racists loses someone they care about to it, will they be as callous?
@Dr.Fart
No one is suggesting that Covid is nothing to worry about man.
It’s about a measured response.
Like, remember when we saved over 83 thousand people from certain death by washing our hands and staying 2 mtrs apart? (Except for shopping, going to work, visiting the off licence, going to the bank, sneaking a visit to your neighbours etc)
Sure didn’t we do a great job
https://www.independent.ie/world-news/coronavirus/up-to-85000-irish-people-could-die-from-coronavirus-in-worst-case-scenario-taoiseach-indicates-as-three-more-diagnosed-39029363.html
Yea but this is bullshit. It would be impossible that that many people would have died because you can look at other countries that had different lockdown and much higher populations and not as many died even there (Sweden, UK had pubs open with no mash all summer)
This was political fear mongering to make the population pliable and scared. There is so many corrupt mistakes in this whole s-show (look into the crappy pcr test debaucle, healthy people shed virus residue etc.) it’s hard to wade through.
100% agreed, and Broadsheet, what did you do to verify this information before publishing?
It’s not irresponsible journalism, it’s not journalism at all.
“please, Broadsheet, stop posting about Covid being nothing to worry about. . . . [P]laying it down is dangerous and wreckless.”

You’ve three months to register a death where a coroner isn’t needed, and it can be months before a death can be registered if a postmortem is involved. The numbers from recent months aren’t all in yet…
According to RIP.ie it’s 3323 deaths or so for August if i’m reading it correctly.
I don’t think that makes sense though? If we had that much of an August increase we’d all be living under our beds?

“I know what you’re thinking punk: ‘Did I invite six people to the barbecue or only five?’
Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself.” https://t.co/82qEv4HOCc

I don’t remember hospital staff signing up to be cannon fodder to a highly infectious disease. The capacity of the health system to handle the workload is important. Many survivors has long term health effects. The death rate is not the only parameter.
Yeah, it’s not like the Government provided them with rubbish PPE time and time again and then explicitly told them it wasn’t needed for Nursing homes.

Almost a third of all the covid cases in Ireland are healthcare workers – 8834 cases
We’re blessed that we only lost eight of these fantastic people.
Yet another mess from the government.
@Art
Sorry I didn’t see your comment. I’ll answer here. I think its important.
*I’m still a bit lost though because then you say that there *is* a slow burning desire to erode peoples rights in *most* countries, that covid is a natural and convenient platform to test out those rights under the guise of the global health system and governments and civil servants are aiding and abetting. No what I meant was there is an erosion of liberties and fundamental rights. I don’t think there is any alignment other than circumstance and luck. So, no I do not think Govts got together to invent his but were quick to grab the crisis and the opportunities inherent. I did not call the Covid crisis slow burning. I called the erosion of rights slow burning.
*Ignoring the supposition that facts/truth/logic may be being distorted for the minute*
It’s not a supposition though it’s true. Never has the press been so mistrusted or has media been in the arm of the govt before and truth, coherence and believability are the casualties.
*I suppose the reason why you (I mean that in the royal sense) may be being seen as an outlier for proposing to check facts is that this case you *are* the outlier?*
Maybe I am. It’s kinda distorted though to think that might be the case. As a fact checker and guided by facts generally thats hardy an odd position. Increasingly though people are led by supposition and emotion. (and social media)
*As in it seems to me the vast majority of the health care profession seem to agree on this*
They don’t though. If they did there would be near consensus. There is none really.
*so to oppose that view by suggesting people check their facts is the exact definition of the minority/outlier view, no?*
I have no problem being an outlier in that I know which way the compass points for me on most issues.
