They are floating around the streets blowing their horns and it just makes them look like male appendages.

not good to generalise though is it? I have met some great taxi drivers over the years.Good and bad in all jobs

Actually taxi drivers had the highest amount of convicted criminals of any profession according to Primetime Investigates back in 2011. It isn’t a case of a few bad apples.

They’re private transport that blocks public transport. Have you ever been on a bus or Luas going South through College Green at rush hour on a wet day? Takes about 20 minutes to go about 100m due to all the (mostly empty) taxis

If you weren’t stuck in College Green for a half an hour behind taxis, you’d spend a lot less time exposed to other passengers on the bus

Can we get Uber and Lyft already? Govt have kowtowed to the taxi lobby for decades, be nice to open it up to real competition, higher standards, actual receipts & passenger safety.

Do you not remember the taxi cartels in the 80s and 90s? The complete lack of taxis on a Friday night? a taxi plate selling for £100,000s?

Yes lots of corruption by local councils enabled that, deregulation was better but so what, that was decades ago. GPS and “driver as a service” apps have made taxis utterly redundant. The only reason we don’t have them here is artificial restrictions like public service vehicle licenses and the taxi lobby.
Scumbag taxi drivers with multiple convictions (often for robbing their passengers) would not be allowed drive for Uber – a few negative reviews would see to that.
