What Seems To Be The Problem?

at

Last night.

Some reaction to Garda Commissioner and former RUC Assistant Commissioner Drew Harris’s fleeting appearance (above right) in Unquiet Graves: The story of the Glenanne Gang, which was broadcast on RTÉ One.

The documentary details how rogue members of the RUC and UDR were centrally involved in the murder of the innocent civilians during the conflict in Northern Ireland.

It  claimed state collusion facilitated the actions of known sectarian murderers in the killings of civilians in a campaign that was aimed at terrorising the most vulnerable in society.

Come on chargers pIRA we’re a great bunch of lads. No racketeers, paedophile, rapists, etc to see their, not to mention children in Warrington.
And of course no collusion between the gardai, RoI politicians and nationalist terror groups.

‘racketeers, paedophile, rapists’ – i honestly thought you were referring to the british government of the 1980s.

I didn’t see it old sport as I’m elsewhere for the next few weeks but I just wondered if RTE made it clear the programme was made by the son of a leading PIRA terrorist.
Kind of important to the narrative don’t you think ?
RTE does have form over its failure to ask difficult questions about the past of prominent Republicans.
Personally I couldn’t give a toss about the Troubles as the sooner people forget about criminality on both sides the better.
I’d say my views are shared by a massive majority of the British population although obviously I can’t be sure.

just to clarify, the maker of this documentary himself was not a member of the PIRA. and also, are you suggesting that all documentaries on all channels should divulge all possible links to criminal behaviours by its funders and makers prior to airing? because that would be ridiculous.

Once more for the slower kids in the class.
I don’t think it unusual that if the son of a leading PIRA terrorist is making a documentary for RTE about the Troubles that his family connections are made known.
I haven’t seen the documentary. It may have been very good.
I just think at this stage of the revisionist narrative full disclosure is essential.

          1. Charger Salmons

            Did it ?
And if it did was it any worse than Irish police officers colluding with the IRA to murder prison officers ?
Thing is I’m all for truth and reconciliation but only if it’s a two-way street.
But really,as I said earlier, no-one except the hard-line nutters and the barstool Republicans who drool away on here gives a toss any more.

I don’t know about contemptible. If you’re going to do a credible documentary about someone’s impartiality you should at least be seen to be impartial yourself….

          1. Cú Chulainn

The state, the government you love so much, created, organised, armed and colluded with a criminal gang who murdered over 120 innocent civilians for no other reason than they were catholic and in the hope of terrorising a community of law abiding and peaceful civilians. And you think the issue is of the parentage of the documentary maker. That’s why your remark is contemptible.

          2. Charger Salmons

            One more time.
If you’re going to make a hard-hitting doco about the Troubles demanding clarity and full disclosure why should you be concerned about you family connections being made public ?
Unless you have something to hide.
You reckon if Johnny Adair’s son did a doco about IRA murder squads on RTE ( I know, silly idea ) his background wouldn’t be front and centre.
That’s the trouble with your lot old sport.
            The truth hurts.

When a series of facts are revealed it really doesn’t matter who reveals them. Don’t shoot the messenger is an old adage sadly lost on you. Your overlords murdered large numbers of its own citizens because they were the wrong religion. I see you’re ok with that.

So basically, you are suggesting the son of a terrorist very sneakily went back in time and persuaded the Mr Harris to try and prevent a court ordered inquiry, just so he could include it in a documentary. And if he hadn’t managed to persuade him to be there, then in all likely hood, Mr Harris would have been undertaking normal policing duties, fuffling the hair of a loveable apple pinching scamp.

When the facts are presented like that – it casts terrorists and their scheming ways in a very bad light i must say.

      +100% – Haha / lol….

You know you’re dealing with a prize eejit when their story hangs precariously on a time travel hypothesis.

No, you see, Charger won’t answer, he likes to stick the boot in and run. It’s the Eton way, you know. Pip Pip.

Who in Government decided to appoint Harris as Head of the Garda, given all that
was known about the Tenants Gang, how come there was never whimper out of
Winn Fein on this Appointment, was there a trade off.

As far as I know the new comish was brought in for two reasons –

    1. The incumbent comish and her cronies were literally to corrupt/tainted by scandal to lead the organization and the public were angry about it, especially re Maurice McCabe.

    2. To get the Gardai to operate within their budget and stop them creaming overtime. In 2017 the OT bill alone was €107 Million!

Many people including myself were delighted that were getting an outsider in, but instead of the hoped New Zealand candidate, we were given Drew Harris, who isn’t nearly as “outside” as we’d hoped.

Senior Gardai have been looking for a way to oust him ever since, but how much of it is due to the likes of this article or the fact that he did in fact bring down operating costs ie less money in their pockets (although they remain the highest paid group of public sector workers, by some distance).

Juicy story but where are all the F-f/g duopoly proxy minions to attempt to try and blame SF and repeat the desperate propaganda smear campaign of “fear of the other(anyone but themselves)”…

Looks like they left this one alone only for Blowhard Hornblower to stand up and have a go on his own…

Silent or currently regrouping, formulating a response and just slow to respond?..

Harris first allegiance is to the Queen. He should never have been entrusted with a top security position in this State. But when you have a political party that lifts the Black and Tans on to a pedestal and whose members’ goals are for Ireland to rejoin the Commonwealth, then you get this.
