Former Junior Finance Minister Michael D’Arcy who is resigning his Seanad seat to become the Chief Executive of a lobbying group for the funds sector, the Irish Association of Investment Management (IAIM)
“It’s a Fine Gael vacancy,” Taoiseach tells the Dáil when asked by @AodhanORiordain if a drugs policy advocate might be nominated for the Seanad by-election to replace Michael D’Arcy @rtenews

This afternoon.
[Sinn Féin President] Ms [Mary Lou] McDonald, referring to Mr D’Arcy leaving the Seanad for a “big job”, asked what it says to families and businesses who are relying on the Government to stand up for them, to go and bat for them.
She said the Tánaiste welcomed the new job of Mr D’Arcy, while other ministers have concerns and wanted to know what action the Taoiseach proposed to take.
Mr Martin replied:
“I believe there should be an effective cooling-off period and I am not happy or in any way comfortable with people taking up a position who have been in office particularly in the area where they had responsibility.”
Taoiseach ‘not comfortable’ with D’Arcy appointment (RTÉ)
Yesterday: Mr D’Arcy Takes A Job
I wonder when this opportunity actually blossomed on his horizon
How long has he been making decisions with an eye towards his future employers, sort of thing
Well it wasn’t overnight, and that’s the big problem with it. Darcy was proposing all sorts in this sector when he was a FG politician.
The problem is also that he’s going to have access to the big knobs in FG, have pre-advises about plans, will be able to lobby for changes.
He’s a despicable character to sell out like this, and it isn’t going unnoticed in Gorey.
Greasy-pole climbers like Darcy won’t give an airbourne copulation about what anyone thinks.
Airborne copulation. Very good. :-)
Hah, thanks:
I keep a small collection of bon mots close by for when needed.
Which reminds me of W.C.Fields:
” I always keep a bottle of whiskey handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy”
I’m nicking that :)
…I’m nicking both of those…
How can one stop this happening?
off with their heads ?
It was a serious question, I don’t know how one (governments) can stop this happening. You can’t stop someone from get a job. Yes you can delay for a short time, but you can’t stop them.
sorry for being flippant,
I feel like that lot are unstoppable
Plenty on here complaining about it happening, not offering any possible genuine solutions or ideas on how this can be stopped.
Surely the provisions of the Lobbying Act 2015 must apply. These state that a 12 month cooling off period for designated public officials (such as a Junior Minister) takes effect unless a waiver or exemption is granted by SIPO. As Darcy did not seek either before resigning his Senate seat how can he now be free to take up the position?

Stereo typical scumbag FGer.
Ah ordinary everyday common-or-garden crony corruption – truly nature is coming back.
Gamekeeper turned poacher.
Who do we think
Noel Rock?

Report on Seamus Woulfe received today. Time to turn the attention to Hayes.
He’s been out of sight since Clifden. Any word on his three stooges?
There’s an naw’full lot of people & set ups helping to keep him out of sight
Have ye noticed
Not a word about him and his plusses
Even Rotide n’ the Pheonix crowd are fierce quiet
Hayes told the Business Post that the three guests were school friends who were not in public life. (They weren’t named on the table plan, but allegedly were from Promontoria.)
‘He has remained tight-lipped about who he invited to the event in Clifden, and as of yet neither confirmed nor denied who his three guests were. His sister is the Oireachtas Head of Protocol and was also at his table for dinner so maybe she could shed some light on who they sat with?’

Salmon and new potatoes.
Seems plausible. Promontoria Servicing Ireland Ltd is a member of BPFI of which Hayes is CEO.
And the food was great.
